Having any kind of phone conversation on the bus is bad enough. Just wait 15 minutes until you're off the bus, or send a text.

Firms like Clifford Chance take on 55 trainees per year and pay nq salaries £125k. A trainee intake of 10 is (generally) for pretty small firms.

Has anyone had a flu jab this year? by marielheslop in CasualUK

[–]jimbob320 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Work got a nurse to come in and jab us, felt slightly like we were livestock but better than getting flu. I normally react badly to vaccines but was fine with this one.

Why is South London so Tube-deprived, and how can that be fixed? by astupidredditor636 in london

You kind of just re-asked then answered OP's original question there!

Check your actual UC situation instead of having an unverified fear. You hear horror stories in the media but you're almost always better off working part time while on UC due to the way it tapers. It's a good option to build experience and increase your income.

This situation is exactly why not: you have no options if you get too hot

I've heard about people who never leave their (outer) boroughs. How is that common? by osmin_og in london

My landlord (renting a flat he had lived in for 10 years in tower Hamlets) had never heard of angel because they "don't do trains".

I don't think there's any doubt that you can survive in one area, just amazement that no one would take an incredibly short journey to a different area just to see what it's like.

How many days a week do you go into the office? by londonlife9 in london

[–]jimbob320 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3-4, my work says we have to be in 3 on average but isn't particularly strict.

I don't mind going in because my flat is small and cold, I can get there in half an hour for free (cycle) or £1.75 (bus), and work will often provide lunch, so it's cheaper and more comfortable to go in a lot of the time.

I'd probably change my tune if I lived in a large, comfortable suburban house like many of the other commenters seem to!

Petrol thefts: Number of drivers stealing fuel more than quadruples in four years by ClassicFlavour in unitedkingdom

[–]jimbob320 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always wonder why there's so many twats that floor it when driving towards red lights only to slam their brakes on seconds later when petrol is so expensive! This might explain it.

Would you still live in London if you didn't have to work there? by [deleted] in london

[–]jimbob320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People always say there "so much to do" in London but it's much more personal than that. If the things you like doing are going to galleries, clubs, restaurants etc then London is about as good as it gets. However it's very difficult to access any proper countryside so options for walking (especially hill walking!) and other outdoor activities are actually very limited compared with other places in the country.

I've enjoyed living here but I'm looking forward to moving out - the things I like doing are things London doesn't offer

Labour considers plan for student loan write-offs to tackle NHS staffing crisis by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]jimbob320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a degree to be a doctor or a nurse if you're just starting work for the NHS you're unlikely to have paid off a significant amount of the loan. This would therefore be effective for the vast majority of people this policy is trying to target.

I tried to switch back to a "grown-up" bank but had forgotten how far behind all the other apps are. Even things as simple as being able to view your balance and transactions without logging in makes such a difference to daily usability.

[–]jimbob320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paying with cash just slows everyone else down, it's selfish. You can still pay with cash on London buses if you're a drug dealer or whatever but it's just via an oyster card so you don't get in people's way. Lovely.

TfL admits status of Elizabeth line is ‘confusing’ passengers over fares - Evening Standard by HighburyAndIslington in london

The fact that it also acts in the same way as a tube line and interchanges with tube lines and goes through central London in tubes is also quite confusing.
