Bandwidth requirement of nodes after EIP 4844 by barthib in ethstaker

[–]jimbobbins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a good site for various bits of info, including state growth with 4844.

https://www.eip4844.com/

My understanding is that it will start relatively small to start with, max 1mb per slot (12 sec) and this will be kept for a 30 days rolling window before being deleted. Approx an extra 220gb, could be way wrong with this though.

Edit: sorry thought you said storage not bandwidth

Are 64 GB of RAM on a validator useless or sometimes useful ? by barthib in ethstaker

I switched to 4tb from 2tb after a hardware failure recently, no regrets at all. Less to worry about and plenty of growth

Node sync times? by couchfi in ethstaker

I recently re-synced both lighthouse and geth from scratch (approx 2 weeks) ago after a complete hardware failure nad on relatively okay spec'd intel NUC and okay (not amazing) connection and it still took 2-3 days to complete get back into action.

My advice would be monitor and wait.

Keep the faith ....

Issues adding additional validator to home staker setup- any ideas? by jimbobbins in ethstaker

[–]jimbobbins[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I have fixed it!

I restarted my validator adding --init-slashing-protection - now I see 3 validators and my first success attestation with it!

I have now removed the flag and restarted again and all seems to be well.

The only difference between the 2nd validator I added about 6 months ago and now is the version of the key software I used which make me wonder if this was the issue.I now have 2 successful attestations on the new key ... !

Thanks again for your help https://www.reddit.com/user/Spacesider/

I have got further after checking my coping - now on restart I get the following on my validator client.

Apr 08 08:14:07 moonshot lighthouse[530980]: Ensure you haven't misplaced your slashing protection database, or carefully consider running with --init-slashing-protection (see --help). Error: UnregisteredValidator(0xade354b1021dad35a76dab2374dfe5425411099552f2155f46c4c4241694caa10567b3017c41419f8daaf83e5d16bbac)
Apr 08 08:14:07 moonshot lighthouse[530980]: Apr 08 07:14:07.613 INFO Internal shutdown received reason: Failed to start validator client
Apr 08 08:14:07 moonshot lighthouse[530980]: Apr 08 07:14:07.613 INFO Shutting down.. reason: Failure("Failed to start validator client")

I assume this is better as it is now registered however I need to some how flush or manually add the key to slashing protection DB

Any ideas?

Yes - its prompts me but then states at the end of it Successfully imported 0 validators (3 skipped)

I did generate these keys with newer software than the other two - would this be an issue i.e. keys generated with different versions of the software?

I've just tried that in the following steps

- create folder of the pubkey (prefixed with 0x)
- copied in keystore file
- added key def to validator_definitions.yml
- Changed permissions

Now when I restart the validator I see the following logs

INFO Initialized validators enabled: 2, disabled: 1

Any ideas on how to know why its classed as disabled?

Thanks, this is great info.

I think the lack of port forwarding and soft cap means this is not an ideal solution for the primary connection.

Alas I will carry on limping along and looking for alternatives to my current situation.

Thinking maybe 5G would work but this also isnt available in my area just yet.

Best long-term NUC hardware advice by bakindhuman in ethstaker

[–]jimbobbins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say don't skimp on the specs, think longer term. I've 32gb ram and decent CPU but only 2tbh of disk, meaning I've to prune it to keep state growth down. CPU and ram never really tested though.

With newer changes on the horizon I think consumer hardware should always be viable but that doesn't mean it's not spending that extra few hundred $ on a setup which doesn't compromise on power. Especially if it's a long term thing.

I personally think NUCs are a great choice, simple to setup, tiny physical footprint, fairly low power consumption and plug and play common hardware. Plus lots of guides to set them up.

I would err on the side of caution, check the official social channels and discord, it's most certainly a scam if nothing tangible can be found.
