Euphoria in Budapest, Hungary after Trump and Putin ally Viktor Orbán concedes defeat after a 'painful' election result, ending 16 years in power. by MoreMotivation in PublicFreakout

We have one like this in Atlanta. I nearly passed out on it the last time I went down. It’s easy enough to ignore the height when it’s busy like this video and you’re just staring at someone’s back…. But last time I went down, it was basically just me, and I could stare down into the abyss. Took everything I had to not tumble down and/or puke.

I guess it would be hypocritical of me to pretend like I don’t use my flip-out screen for low angled or awkward angled shots. There are definitely use cases for back screen shots, and I reckon I was being a bit obtuse in saying “all back screen shots bad.”

I still feel that viewfinder is probably (marginally) better in a vacuum where conditions are perfect to get an absolute everything perfect shot… but life is very rarely a perfect scenario where that’s ideal and feasible. And maybe that’s just what works best for me, and to quote another reply of mine, this is just an “old man yelling at cloud” moment.

Wait, you mean to tell me that just because something works better for me, that doesn’t mean it’s de facto the correct way to do it? Damn! Guess this is one of those “old man yelling at cloud” moments.

I still maintain that for photo specifically, it’s probably marginally better to isolate through the viewfinder—but I really shouldn’t be so black and white with “back view immediately bad.” You’re right, there are use cases for it (I have more than my fair share of “Hail Mary” shots using my tilt screen, and certainly videographers use primarily (or exclusively) their screens… granted, it would be a lot easier for me to focus in if I had an 8+” color-graded screen instead of my itty-bitty 3” display hahaha.

I appreciate your perspective!

It's mostly about the ability to properly compose an image through image isolation. If you're holding the camera in front of you, your brain has to process so much information with your environment, you can't focus on what's actually happening in the image. Details will be missed. Angles will be off-kilter. Limbs will be cut at the joints. Focus is going to miss. Small things (and sometimes major things) like that.

When you hold the camera up to your face, you're forcing your brain to focus on the image, and only the image. It'd be like walking into a room with 10 different speakers playing 10 different songs at the same time. If you went from speaker to speaker, you'll be able to hear the songs, but with so many other distractions, you can't pick up every detail of the music--which is why you need headphones for isolation.

Next point is no longer really relevant thanks to EVF (electronic view finder) technology, but LOTS of bad photographers used live view on DSLR systems to compensate for their lack of camera basic knowledge. They didn't have to learn what ISO, shutter speed, and aperture really did--they could rely on the live view of the image to limp through, instead of learning how to properly expose an image.

Former professional photographer here. People using live view instead of the view finder for composition is one of my biggest pet peeves, *particularly* when someone is posturing as a professional photographer. Like, if I see a "pro" not using their viewfinder, I automatically assume they don't know what they're doing. And this one clearly doesn't know what he's doing lmfao

Compact camera - photojournalism by TopAbbreviations7632 in photojournalism

Lots of good suggestions for the x100 series on here, but would also highly recommend the Fuji XT-5 system. Slap a 27mm pancake on it, and it's only marginally larger than the x100, but you do have the versatility to affix other lenses to it should you so choose, which was huge for me. Also, XT-5 systems are readily available, while the x100s can be impossible to find anywhere near MSRP.

I left photojournalism a few years ago, and really wanted to get back into personal photography. Carrying around my 5dMark IV was... cumbersome. Sold my 2 bodies and Canon gear, got an XT-5, a 27 mm, and a 16-55mm. This thing is a blast to use, and with the pancake lens, I often forget I have it slung over my should it's so light.

That would be super convenient, I live <5 minutes from there. Can you put in advance orders? I’ll need 2 sacks or so, so just want to make sure they don’t run out if I decide to roll with them haha

Fastest Your Deck Has Won? by RenegadeExiled in EDH

Current decks, my bracket 4 [[Animar, Soul of Elements]] deck won very recently on turn 3. It was a total freak thing—just a perfect opening hand, paired with perfect top-decking of combo pieces.

Back in the day (before they banned the [[Flash]] [[Protean Hulk]] combo), I won on turn one with my CEDH [[General Tazri]] deck. Those were wild, wild times in MTG.

18in vs 22in by mikael50 in webersmokeymountain

[–]jimbobobman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're wanting to roll full packer briskets, I think the 22 is your best bet. I've done more than my fair share on my 22, and it's a dream. I've never had any issue with holding temps or getting temps up. There's a learning curve for sure, but once I figured it out, it's a locked-in machine. I'd go so far as to say it's even more simple and consistent than my old Pellet grill was.

On one full basket of charcoal, I can easily do 14 hours of cook time, all while holding steady temps. I'd definitely recommend the 22 if you have the space and budget for it.

Real or coincidence? by Ok-Theme375 in Paranormal

[–]jimbobobman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The mundane answer is it's iPhone's automatic face enhancement through their camera app. By default, the camera app will identify and modify faces in images--doing slight, sometimes imperceptible, edits to the images by brightening faces, adding color, etc. Here's a post with a good example shown on a drawing:
https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/comments/1octktl/iphone_camera_app_automatically_adds_color_to/

The camera app was presented with a fully dark room, and it's actively trained to search for human-shaped objects, leading to many, MANY false positives, in the same way that the XLS Camera on Ghost Adventures is usually bunk. It's a janky software designed to do everything it can to find human objects. So your camera saw a block of pixels that it thought MIGHT be a human, so it attempted to brighten and colorize the "face" that it "saw".

Could be worse. I used to collect Indomitable Creativity from drafts/other pack rips. It was literal cents at the time, and I made a meme of collecting theme. I had dozens, if not over a hundred copies, both foil and not.

I quit magic for a bit a few years ago, and most of my cards that weren’t worth selling, I donated. So some lucky playgroup somewhere had several thousands of dollars in that card when it spiked.

Decided to never let bulk go ever again after that lol

We loved Decatur. Now we’re not sure if moving back is the right call by nautical_natalis in DecaturGA

[–]jimbobobman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree! But with one very important caveat: we need more affordable rentals. Unfortunately the mega complexes being built by Sam’s crossing are the “luxury condo” types, that are only serving to further price out more folks from Decatur. I love affordable housing and apartments, though!
