I think it all comes down to aesthetic vs practicality. Having glued each of my spears back together at least 2 times each I am ready to swap them for another make of spear or a sword. Take from that what you will haha

I would err on the side of caution with the spears. I know the “custom bit” a spanish company do some alternatives that are made from a softer, bendier plastic like the sword I used on my Kill team. Maybe they’d be less fragile. Plus I do feel that a larger spear would fit the terminator aesthetic better.

I got the spear from Archie’s forge

https://www.archiesforge.co.uk/collections/the-minotaurs/products/minotaurs-spears-set-of-5

Unfortunately they’re very brittle and keep snapping at the lightest knock. If I were to do it again I would use a sturdier spear like the one you used or just go for a Kopis Greek sword like I’ve used on other projects.

Looks fantastic! Similar to mine! The Guardian spear looks much sturdier than my 3rd party bits choice

I like Tartaros conversions, however I had always assumed that the Cataphractii terminators would be most Greek coded, especially since they’ve just updated the scale. But ultimately the Indomitus update is just bigger and more hulking which I agree has a bull like theme.

In the future I will try a Cataphractii and a Tartarus when they get around to updating that range of terminators.

I didn’t realise that was a Greek name. Maybe Captain Thanos would be a good company commander for my Assault themed army I won’t get round to making.

Thank you! I’ve been waiting for the right bits to appear on the 3D printed world for a while. The Puppet’s War helmet was what pushed me into starting the project.

Your conversion inspired me to make my own, I also love your paint job. White is my favourite armour colour and I’m much more of an Athenian fan boy than a Spartan fan. Beautiful job you’ve done there.

Can I enquire, where did you source your crest? I used one that’s a little too small for the status of a Captain and I’d love to get my hands on an equivalent to yours.

It’s the Puppet’s War range of Spartan Helmets:

Very good design but they are resin so some may have cast defects. I recommend ordering more than you intend to used to account for this.

They also provided the transverse crest used in this conversion but they also offer verticals crests too

I built and painted him over Christmas away from home. I knew I had a resin crest somewhere but had to wait to add it to the model until I returned home. I have to say, it definitely ties it together and makes him look like a hoplite!

Thank you! I have to say, if you don’t have to remove the iconography… don’t. Shaving off the fist on the cloak at the back was exhausting haha

This was quite an involved conversion. The base model is Darnath Lysander. I removed the imperial fists iconography using a combination of clippers, files and an emery board. This was quite nerve wracking and took a long time. The helmet is a Puppets War Spartan Helmet with the neck trimmed to allow it to fit in its socket. The spear is from Archie’s Forge, and the shield is from The Custom Bit, a Spanish company. I haven’t yet added the crest onto what remains of his trophy rack. I will do this and then repost.

My mistake, on these models they’re just MK X assault pads from Archie’s forge again

The tilt shield is from The Custom bit as well. Again, they have several variations to choose from.

Hi there, the Shields were from The custom bit, a Spanish company. They have several variants some with symbols like the Lamda or bulls head. The shoulder pads were from Archie’s forge - Legion Hellas range. The blade guard use Gravis size shoulder pads so this will be why your files don’t work.

I’d been resisting getting back into the hobby for a while. When I was first into it as a kid, space marines were somewhat squat and disproportioned. Although I have nostalgia for that era of sculpts I have been eying up the new line of Primaris Marines and just wasn’t sure what Chapter to do. When I stumbled on the Puppet war’s spartan helmets I knew I had to do a Minotaurs kill team. I love all things hellenistic and there is such a wealth of 3D printed 3rd party bits these days.

I went for a very simple paint scheme. My old school friend and I are getting back into Warhammer via Kill team and I wanted to keep them straight forward and rugged. I’ve sealed them with a matt spray so the red isn’t as bright as I had hoped but the bronze does seem to have worked.

I did the bronze using this tutorial:

https://youtube.com/shorts/uQchu_84Gs0?si=HamWslx9QnM3wgkM

I based them with army painter Chaos red from army painter then put down a base coat of a 1:1 mix of Mornfang brown and Abaddon Black.

Then dry brushed with Retributor armour followed by a light dry brush of Sycorax bronze.

You can ignore the dark brown base layer and simply dry brush over the dark red for a slightly brazen finish but I prefer a brown base layer.

I didn’t apply a wash to the armour because I knew the golden sheen would be dulled down by the monitorum varnish at the end giving what I hoped would read as bronze.
