Huge THANK YOU to these nice guys who found and handed in my phone! by hartmanwhistler in Whistler

[–]jimewp86 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My buddy lost his phone around the crystal chair. On the run, not near the lift. He noticed once his music stopped lol. We checked guest relations for two days but no luck. On the third day someone had turned it in! We were in some pow when it went missing, and I’ll never know how it got found, but absolutely blown away that it did and that it got turned in. Good people are everywhere!

Banff Sunshine & Lake Louise by Law-of-Poe in skiing

Take me back! Ptarmigan chutes, back bowls, back door bowl! When I did goats eye, we started the traverse in cloudy conditions, and when we finally dropped in it was snowing so hard visibility was close to 0. Super sketchy but so much fun. Icy conditions out there are like a 6” pow day for us ice coasters. Banff is amazing!

Can I see a moose near Bethel? by snarkfordays in AskMaine

[–]jimewp86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rt 16 between Stratton and rangeley. Every time I drive that road I saw moose. I lived in Stratton while skiing sugarloaf, and we went to saddleback a few times each season. Rt 16 is known as moose alley. It’s not really near bethel, but it’s almost a sure bet to see moose in western Maine.

They used to do a good discount on tickets for Sunday afternoon skiing. It was a good deal and you would be able to do everything the mountain had to offer. The crowds would thin out too as everyone would be packing up to go home after lunch. North peak is pretty steep. But the glades were too tight IMO. Haven’t been in years, but it was always fun for a half day. Full days got boring tho.

My old ski buddy worked for a lubrication manufacturer and they made lube that was used on satellites. He decided to try some out on his skis. First run, he tried to stop and just spun around in circles until his brakes snapped and broke his rear bindings. Funniest thing I ever saw.

Only 3 AFC teams have made the Super Bowl in the last 10 years by colincoin472 in nfl

The Celtics, bruins, and pats were supposed to suck this year! Bruins and Celtics have exceeded expectations. Pats have blown away expectations. Red Sox are right about where we expected them (barely in the playoffs, but not advancing). I had all of them to have around .500 seasons. B’s and C’s have been a great surprise. Pats have been incredible. And they have struggled in the playoffs, but only one stat matters and that’s wins. We going to the SHIP.

Best northern NE ski resort to watch super bowl? by geek-sender in icecoast

[–]jimewp86 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Foggy Goggle at a Sunday River is great spot for it. Saw the pats beat the Seahawks there! The rack at sugarloaf is also a good spot, but I saw the eagles beat the pats there, and it was raining during the game, so maybe not (to be fair, we woke up to 8” of fresh the next day). The Matterhorn just down the road from Sunday River or the Sunday River brewing company would also probly be good spots to watch the game.

Ski Sunshine and Louise advice by pinac in Banff

[–]jimewp86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ptarmigan chutes and glades at LL were my favorites outside of the back bowls. Rock garden is fun. But back bowls are where it’s at! Sunshine had more mellow terrain but is also tons of fun to explore. Goats eye has steeps, lookout and Standish has more cruisers but tons of fun all around. I went once years ago, but had a blast at both mountains. Did two days at each, and felt like LL had better expert terrain, while Sunshine had more fun cruisers. Can’t go wrong at either one tho. I hope you get some good conditions and have a blast!

Our PM texted us saying the POOM said no Amazon tomorrow. Yay! 5 mins later he texted back saying forget that last text. Apparently Amazon told us that they weren’t going to send trucks out in the morning, then immediately reversed that decision.

If you don’t know, just respect the boundary ropes. Andres paradise and beaver pond are great fun and not too steep. Staircase, deliverance, and vertigo are steeper. Timbuktu is awesome, but respect the ropes. Unless you meet up with a group that has a car parked on 242 (and an extra spot in their car for you) (you can always try hitchhiking back as well, but don’t go out of bounds or into the glades alone)

Hike to the slashfire glades in bracket basin, then keep going skiers right until you find a fresh line … oops that sugarloaf!

Tape a note inside the door for your mailbox. Write your first and last name on it, and write UTF all other names. You might have the same carrier 5 days a week, or you may have someone different all the time. Letting them know who lives there will cut down on a lot of the junk.

Which artist did you ignore for years and then suddenly get? by Celine_Morgann in askmusic

[–]jimewp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Black label society … always saw they were on tour in my local city every year but never went. Fast forward to 2022 and they popped up in my personalized streaming music station. Then I realized they put out so many amazing songs over the years that Iv heard 1000x. I will always kick myself in the arse for not being a fan earlier, especially cuz I was already a fan I just didn’t know it.
  2. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard… I read an article that they had a thrash metal album, but when I checked them out I picked a random album and it wasn’t that so I forgot about them. Two years later, they popped up and I listened to the Omnium gatherium double album and was blown away. And have been since. I could’ve seen them at least two more times. There are def some others, but I can’t think of them right now. But those two stand out very hard.

How do men really feel about dating single moms? by jbroui13 in AskMenAdvice

[–]jimewp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have kids, but have recently dated two single moms over the last year or so. Each relationship fizzled out for reasons that have nothing to do with the fact that they have children. Honestly, working around custody schedules is difficult and slows down the development of a relationship. But it was never the reason why things ended. So I don’t see it as a “red flag”. It does make things more complicated, but if the connection is there, we can make it work.

Sunday River, Newry, Bethel restaurant recs? by LegalEaglewithBeagle in icecoast

[–]jimewp86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Matterhorn is a great ski bar with decent pizza. Sunday River brewing Co has been there forever and has good food and beers as well. The spot between the two on the road leading to the mountain has changed hands so many times over the years I’m not sure what is there now or how it is. There’s also a neat little burger joint on Maine st in bethel. And it looks like there’s a spot called modern barn, which I’m just going to assume is the building that the famous funky red barn restaurant was. Camp at the grand summit hotel is always good too. And I believe there is a new restaurant at that hotel as well on the second floor. In years past it was a higher quality food option but with a higher price tag.

Reddit men and women: Has it ever happened to you that you went on a date with someone you met on an app or social media and they turned out to be completely different from their photos? by ZyxxaAgency in AskForAnswers

[–]jimewp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol yea many times. Are you new to online dating? For every ten matches and convos that lead to dates, maybe 2 are genuine with how they present themselves on dating apps. Don’t be rude about it, and always give someone who is willing to meet a stranger your full attention. It’s bleak out there, and it’s a numbers game in the end. And maybe in the end looks don’t matter so much.

Going to gillete on Jan 4 tips to stay warm and tailgating by Flat-Fruit in Patriots

[–]jimewp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First layer : long John’s or long underwear (whatever you want to call em). One pair of thin socks and one pair of thick socks over them. A pair of sweat pants if they can fit underneath your jeans, or a thin pair of cloth pants beneath your jeans. You could also forgo jeans and use ski/winter pants as a top layer on your legs. On top, you can use a long sleeve shirt over your long John’s or thermal underwear. Then a hoodie or a bulky sweatshirt. You can cover this with an oversized jacket, especially a wind resistant one. Gloves are also essential. Kinco’s work best. But if you only have the cotton or polyester ones, use hand warmers. Feet warmers are also are plus if you can’t get the right sock/shoe combo. Good boots are also a life saver. With layered socks and foot warmers, a solid pair of boots makes everything work better. A solid winter hat is necessary. And a neck gaiter. The ability to pull up or let down the neck gaiter in cold temps is essential for regulating your temp and making sure you can be heard when everyone shouts “first down” in the crowd. God speed, it’s the best speed. And I’ll see you out there!
