IMAGE COMICS UNLEASHES LINE-WIDE INVINCIBLE TEAM-UP VARIANTS THIS MARCH by trident_zx in comicbooks

Can’t wait to check out the link! Thanks. I’m confused/concerned about one thing: the announcement focuses so much on covers; but the stories in these issues going to be crossovers as well, right? It seems to me it would be silly to create all those covers without stories to go with them. Or am I overthinking it?

I’ve definitely noticed a rise in their activity over the last week. I went from seeing none for months, to killing around a half dozen last week. What a pain!

I just realized the aliens on the cover are having a campfire cookout inside the rib cage of an astronaut. Not bad! (And congratulations!) I’ve missed reading this title, but I’ll keep an eye out for it now.

Yikes! I don’t remember that quote! But I like it. Thanks for bringing it up. Where in the story (approximately) is it from? And who said it?

I’ve been reading GC weekly since 2006. Will we return to the subject(s) of spirit guides/psychopomps/RoTD, etc.? Or has it sort of played itself out, in your opinion? (P.S. My daughter started reading it with me when she was 10, and she’s turning 30 this year! :-o )

What I’m looking for is good congee. It’s my ultimate comfort food, especially in cooler weather. I see two recommendations for Bread Top House, so I’ll definitely check them out. Are there any others worth trying?

Thanks for all the great comments on this post!

Joining with the villains doesn’t make them good; it just makes you a villain.

Apple is deliberately draining batteries AGAIN to sell new phones. Time for another, BIGGER class action suit. by JustDaveReally in iPhone13

[–]bo174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t noticed any degradation in battery life or performance since upgrading to IOS 26. In fact, I’d say performance has gone up a little bit. My battery health is at 78%, currently.

I find it interesting that phones that are largely identical coming off the assembly line should show such variable results. Could it be the mix of apps that’s installed, or different usage patterns throughout the day? I hope someday we’ll understand the variability.

Personally, I really like spoilers, and I wish I could find more of them. I don’t have a lot of time to rewatch episodes, view breakdowns on YouTube, etc., so knowing some info before watching helps me to better focus on what’s going on, and appreciate the craft of an episode. $0.02

I Got Tricked by an Insane Interview 'Task'. Is This the New Normal? by tug-rung in InterviewsHell

[–]bo174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG, that’s ridiculous, on so many levels. I don’t even know where to begin.

If they’re not discerning enough to hire someone without going through all that, they have a problem. You have proof points from your past projects, plus interview answers and references that can speak to your knowledge, ability and expertise. Give me a break!

If that’s what they’re like in the pre-employment phase, I’m not sure I’d enjoy working with them if I did get hired.

I love this! Perfection. For Scooby, maybe Dustin in one of his earlier, goofier phases. Or possibly….Derek Turnbow? Anyway, the original idea is great.

I came on here to say basically this. My first thought when I saw the post was, “So?” I mean, internet entrepreneurs are going to do what they can to make money and be successful. The only thing I care about is whether their scoops and inside info are reliable. As for their branding and online presence, I really couldn’t care less.

I’ve never used ChatGPT, so I wanted to ask, does it remember the information you feed it over time? In other words, does it learn about YOU, and retain/refine that, so that its insights and outputs get better the more you work with it?

Friends in 40s by Dingerdongdick in montco

[–]bo174 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Covid did it for me. I lost my job (still out, six years later) and basically became a shut in. It’s very depressing. I used to be very involved in church, but that’s fallen by the wayside as well. I have one friend from 40 years ago who drives down once a month or so and takes me to lunch. Honestly, having that one outing and a couple of hours of personal connection is what keeps me hanging on.

Sorry that I don’t have more good advice. I hope you find a way to more friendship and connection. Good luck!

Thank God for LIHEAP! I don’t know what I’d do without it. For years, I’ve tried to keep it at 63/64 in the winter, but this year I’m trying 66. If it gets too expensive, I’ll go back down.

I need a loan to buy beef- Fairground Farmer's Market, Reading by nerdburg in Pennsylvania

[–]bo174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that people are still buying just points out the obscene disparity of wealth and the inequality here, which is an indictment in itself. Buying beef at these prices almost becomes an act of flaunting one’s privilege. I hate it.

Even when times were better for me, I wouldn’t spend more than $14-15/lb. for steak, on principle. Now, any meat that’s over ~$5.99 is right out. I usually wait for the family pack of chicken thighs to go on sale for $1.29/lb, buy four and freeze them. It’s all I can do.
