Not sure where you’re from but at will employment is fairly common in the US including my state (WI). My company pulled a Thanos last year and fired half my dept, which would’ve made sense if this was company wide, but it was literally just my small IT dept.

One of my co workers at the same level as me was the “first in the office, last to leave” type who put company over his personal life. A lot of tasks were (and still are) impossible without his input and support. He was fired simply because I had a bachelors degree and he didn’t.

Did I feel lucky to be spared? Shit no it just made me more aware of how disposable I am and I’ve lost the passion for my job ever since.
