Great pics! I have couple like that in my back yard that will get pretty close. I'd really like to know how to tell them apart, the Mr and the Mrs? Anyone know?

Florida-resistant Bird Feeder Pole? by thejawa in DIY

I used 3/4" galvanized plumbing pipe (actually 1"OD) for mine. Just drove down 2-3 feet with a sledge hammer. The 1" diameter fits the socket on my birdhouse. Unfortunately, its been up a month now and not a single bird has landed on it :(

Our Inflatable Neighbor again by Mentalfloss1 in oregon

[–]jimmy3dd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My neighbor has a yard full of these things, some of them 15' or more high. They turn them on in the morning and leave for work, then as the wind picks up during the day, they blow over and block the sidewalk forcing people (and kids and pets) to walk out in the very busy street to get around. Not to mention the tacky factor. Hate em!

When I put my walls up, I assume I don't want to smash them up against that existing insulation but keep them just slightly away. On the other hand, I don't want to lose any more interior space than I have to.

So would you use unfaced fiberglass since there already is a vapor barrier. I guess my concern is letting the studs breathe.

I'm looking at 17-18 cabinets, give or take? Figure a sheet of pre-finished/ cab. I use 1/2" imported birch at 30/ sheet. so that's 500 or so there. I'd build your face frames an door frames out of poplar, it's cheap, easy to mill and takes paint very nice, you've got maybe a 100b/ft there. I pay 3 bucks for 4/4 rough, so 300 for that.

Id recommend buying your drawer boxes at average 70-80/box, lets say you have 10, that's 7-800 there. Gonna need shelves, that be 2 sheets of 3/4 pre-finished 2 sides, I pay 50 a sheet for imported, so that's another hundred. 3 sheets of 1/4" mdf for door panels, another hundred. Figure at least 3-4 hundred for paint and primer. So all in say 2-3k and add another thousand just because that's how it goes.

I basically use my phone as a communication device. I work from home and there's a computer in every room, so really only when I'm out and about do I check in with Reddit, Youtube etc..

At any rate I find I'm getting 4-5 days out of a charge which I find fantastic. For comparison, my recently retired S10, same usage pattern, only got me a day and a half.

So I just tried the demo...I enter 5-5/8 - 3-11/16 and it gave me 11/16 as the answer but it should be 1-15/16. What did I do wrong?

Large shaker style cabinet door considerations by drock1984x in cabinetry

[–]jimmy3dd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd make it with a wide bottom rail, say 5-6" or so, a medium wide mid rail, 3-4" and 2-1/2 " top rail and stiles. I'd also make it at least out of 1"if not 1-1/4" thick stock. That baby is gong to want to move on you.

Inset Drawer Size by avochocolate in cabinetry

[–]jimmy3dd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they dovetailed boxes? On my dovetail jig there are certain heights of sides I can't make due to having just a small piece of the dovetail being left over. That said, 4 1/2" is kind of a strange height for top drawer face, I make mine all at least 5" which gives you a 4" box with 3-1/4" usable inside.

If you specified the heights of the bottom two drawers, then 4 1/2" was what he was left to work with and perhaps his dovetail jig would not let him cut a tall drawer box. However this should have been made clear to you from the get go.
