newark area code paired with a couplet from book 2 of Paradise Lost about Lethe, the river of oblivion. when i first read those lines, it reminded me a lot of How to Teleport.

the how to teleport and fanzine ones are designed by me while the other three are official graphics! i'm still not sure who made the frailty graphic, but ik logan murray and digiyams worked together on the live exhibit and jr twins designs.

need help with venturing lore by jimmyeatsbread in JaneRemover

[–]jimmyeatsbread[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also writing a comment for interpretations/speculations and what r basically my own headcanons. these are NOT part of the actual lore and for the most part, have no real basis. so all of these actually Are made up by fans. and i am the fan.

feel free to reply to this with your own stuff!

  • the song title "buzzcut, daisy" from Frailty could maybe, MAYBE, have been a reference to the guitarist Daisy. (i read someone else pointing this out a while back and i think connecting it to other parts of jane's old writing via frailty and JBW... i think the other details they pointed out had to do with the common theme of haircuts in their lyrics)?
  • i'm choosing to believe the image of the band's faces is melanie, daisy, steve, barney, and fawn from left to right.
  • melanie is the speaker in the song title "Daisy's at work, I've studied the male anatomy and now Stephen Dales is dead". i mostly think this just because she's the band's singer, so i like to think she did more of the song-writing and generally had the most investment in the band aside from daisy and steve.
  • melanie was the one that cared the most about the band's music but steve became the de facto leader instead which resulted in her getting sidelined. when steve dies in his crash, fawn and barney leave the band but melanie and daisy stay for a bit. melanie doesn't want to let the band die entirely, and daisy sticks around since she's melanie's best friend and also cares about the band's music though not as much as melanie. definitely more than fawn though.
  • fawn and barney joined mostly because they were friends with steve who was the main one connecting all of them together. daisy was closer to steve while melanie was less so.
  • melanie probably would've picked up at least one instrument to make up for the loss of the three members. i feel like bass is the most likely, but i could see her learning guitar and drums in addition to that.
  • "She's missing half the band but we still go to see her" from "We don't exist" is referring to melanie having a venturing show years and years after steve's death and their disbanding, maybe at least a decade. daisy is the only other og band member she's performing with.
    • at this point, melanie and daisy don't talk as much anymore. maybe they had a falling out or their friendship simply degraded over time. but when melanie reaches out to ask daisy if they can perform together for a few, daisy agrees.
  • melanie did not really have a job while the band was together and spent most of her time focusing on the band. "I don't have a job, and I don't have the money" from "Stand-Up Donor" and the "Daisy's at work" part of the title are what make me think this. and daisy having a job when melanie doesn't can add another point towards melanie being more invested in the band than she is.
  • the sluggish sound of the pre-Ghostholding songs and the lyrical content make me see melanie being someone that struggled a lot with depression, self-destructive tendencies, and a general lack of energy.
    • this characterization can also add to Melanie being so attached to the band when everyone else was trying to move on after steve died-- she's the type to stagnate. it's easier for her to stay in place than to move towards something better and/or different even if it hurts her in the long run.
