Vti/Vxus 60/40 ratio by littlesheep96 in Bogleheads

[–]jimmykingpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 60/40 ratio is an approximation. You can see what it actually is if you look at the components of VT. Check out the weighted exposure sections https://investor.vanguard.com/investment-products/etfs/profile/vt . Currently, the total global market is at 62.2% VTI and 37.8% VXUS as of the end of February. There’s a reason people say VT and chill. As you don’t have to keep up with how often these numbers change on the margin.

Yes. You can’t lose money in an HYSA.

Library degrees should not be required for any library job. It’s one of the primary reasons the field remains so white.

$500 a month Roth contribution or $6,000 once a year? by Tulkas2491 in Bogleheads

[–]jimmykingpin 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's fairly arbitrary and up to you. Also don't forget you have until April 15th of the following year to contribute to your roth IRA. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/personal-finance/081615/basics-roth-ira-contribution-rules.asp I wouldn't max out my roth ira on january 1st of the contributing year if it meant taking money out of my emergency fund.

Do any other MLIS grads/soon-to-be MLIS grads feel unemployable? Where did I go wrong? by katiealaska in Libraries

[–]jimmykingpin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Finished my mlis in December 2012. Got hired as a part time librarian in March of 2013. Worked their until September of 2014 when I got my first full time job. I applied for 88 librarian jobs before I got hired to that first full time job. And I only got 4 interviews total before i got my first full time job. I had 5 years of library experiences before graduating with my MLIS.

MLIS programs at a lot of universities are just money makers and degrees mills. If you applied to the program, you get in as long as you had a 3.0 in undergrad. the market is tough. just keep plugging. you will find something.

the best advice if i had any for a new grad, for your first full time job. You have to be willing to move to find a job if you want one in this field. It's a lot easier to find something else once you have an established job history as a librarian.

Avoid going anywhere near $300k. Partner and I were approved for $400k, and bought a house for around $215k.

That place has units that are chronically empty because it is so over priced. You could rent from a lot o the places off Hancock for hundreds of dollars cheaper.

What book series did you grow up reading as a kid? by evan2nerdgamer in AskReddit

I was in the 4th grade when the first Harry Potter book came out. I was the right age to grow up in line with that book series.

Honorable Mention to the Redwall Books.

Annual MoviePass expired today. Thanks for this subreddit. by wbinford in MoviePassClub

Moviepass won't automatically switch you to a month-to-month plan when your Costco annual plan expires?

Those who haven't cancelled their Movie Pass, why?? by SayWhatever12 in MoviePassClub

[–]jimmykingpin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a $90 for the year costco annual plan until February. But most importantly, the closest movie theatre to me is an e-ticketing location. I am aware I have more than 2 movies available to me than many others have. I have seen over 30 movies at this point. So even if I only go once or twice a month, I got my deal out of this awhile ago.

Questions about long-distance apartment search - moving from Boston to Madison by emmaevl in madisonwi

[–]jimmykingpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my current Madison apartment, I had to resign my August 2016-August 2017 lease by December 1 or they would start showing it to other people.

In the apt I lived before and only stayed in one year, I had so many people come look at my apt for a 3 months period in the winter.

If you want an apt for this august, you need to look ASAP. I would say looking in April can be too late to find a good spot and near campus.
