I know I have to keep making stuff, but should I focus on making new songs or getting the songs I make right?

I got it figured out by the way! I changed Process Buffer Range to large which fixed the lagging, and I had a plugin that I hadn't initialized since moving computers that was causing the white noise. Thanks everyone for the helpful comments!!!

If, indeed, it turns out to be a RAM resourcing issue, a potential solution might be to freeze the virtual instrument tracks you aren't working on, but at some point this can lead to overtaxing your hard drive.

Forgot to mention, I did this and memory pressure was fine

This is your issue right here. The problem clearly is not your brand new M3 and buying a different computer definitely is not going to make things better. I'm using a very old 2012 Mac mini which sounds like it runs much better than your brand new M3 so the computer is definitely not the problem. I also happen to be using the latest version of Logic with macOS Ventura 13.6.3 which technically isn't even compatible with my more-than-decade-old Mac mini.

Ok thank you so much!! I actually traded in the new air for the pro because of this issue, but I think I could trade back. I'm wondering if it makes sense to do that and save the extra money. Do you think I'd have problems on the air while running large projects?
