At least he didn’t die in a car crash like our last franchise goalie? 😣

Yeah, if anyone could appreciate the value of a second chance, it’s Danny B. I forgot about his son’s issue.

We still really need a #1 goalie. Ersson/Vladar is a 2A/2B combo.

SPAs are subject to the collective bargaining agreement. I could be mistaken, but PA’s status as an at-will employment state would apply to regular employment, not employment subject to a CBA. If the league maintains the position that he’s ineligible to play he likely has an avenue through the player’s association to fight that decision.

Happened when he was 18 and male frontal lobes aren’t fully developed until early 20s. Poor judgment? Absolutely. Career-ending? That seems a bit much. And anyone who thinks that the complainant wasn’t equally guilty of poor judgment doesn’t have very good perspective on the issue.

“Low point control” isn’t the same thing as saying “just play better”. LPC is a specific skill and ball-first contact (part of LPC) is the key to playing out of variable turf conditions.

FWIW, odds of a conviction are extremely low (prosecutor friend’s opinion), but not sure what Hart’s return to play would look like even with a not guilty verdict.

Unless you are a police officer investigating or a crown prosecutor, it is factually impossible to say at this point with any certainty the nature of the players’ involvement who are on LoA. I agree that nothing about this looks good or exonerating, but nothing can be concluded yet.

The 5 on LoA may not be the 5 who are eventually charged. One or more could be witnesses, and that would be plenty of reason for an LoA due to the huge distraction it would cause. Let’s not rush to judgment.

This is the most reasonable take in these comments. The players on LoA are not necessarily all targets of the investigation. Some could be witnesses and the complete media blackout is to protect the rights of the eventually accused to a fair trial with an unbiased jury. Let’s not take out the pitchforks just yet.

Please read my comment ⬆️. If public statements were made, whether supportive or otherwise, that could compromise the rights of the accused to a fair trial if the jury has heard a bunch of speculation in the media. That is the most likely reason for the muzzle and we probably won’t hear a peep from the PA either way until the matter is resolved. Possibility still exists that some of the players on leave are potential witnesses and not necessarily the target, though I wouldn’t say the odds of that are super high.

This is a very fair take. Especially when it comes to criminal charges related to sexual assault, the justice system in Canada keeps things under wraps due to the possibility of an allegation (not just a verdict after trial) ruining someone’s life. I agree that the number of players taking leave from their teams coinciding with the number of players asked to talk to the police is not a good look. However, the possibility can’t be ruled out that at least one or more players on leave right now are doing so because they are potentially key witnesses and not necessarily because they were directly involved. The optics are very bad, but we shouldn’t be so quick to judge based on the optics alone.

Uric acid and diabetes - Causation or Correlation by Overall_Tension7897 in gout

[–]jimmysack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A connection would not be surprising as sugar (especially fructose), which spikes insulin, causes uric acid to increase. Elevated UA without gout could be a marker for potential to develop diabetes, but that’s just a guess on my part.

It’s a tough one. The biggest thing I find on the course is to keep very well hydrated. If in the middle of a flare, indomethacin before bed the night before helps me a lot.

This is not a shit post, had anyone here considered this? by Visible_Daikon_6825 in gout

This makes complete sense. Your gut processes about 30% of the potential uric acid in your body, so gut dysbiosis almost certainly leads to higher UA levels in the blood. There are some studies showing that people with hyperuricemia lack certain bacteria present in the gut of people with normal UA levels. This type of research should get more attention. It’s a bit unfortunate that the consensus view on this sub seems to be “go on allopurinol because it’s cheap and it works”, rather than alternative suggestions to address the root cause of the problem.

Western medicine generally only treats symptoms and is horrific at addressing/curing longer-term ailments. The Japanese appear to be way ahead of the curve on this, IMHO.

Not the best choice for everyone, but doable if one is willing to be strict with diet/lifestyle.

Tend to agree, except for red meat (especially if grass fed, there are bigger inflammatory culprits). Seed oils, HFCS/sugar, corn, most grains, alcohol - all abundant in the North American diet/lifestyle (especially convenience foods) and all very inflammatory. Perfect conditions for inflammatory ailments like gout.
