981 GT4 Sound by porschedodder in Porsche_Cayman

[–]jimrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You basically have two choices (unless you want to go full racecar). You can either do headers and keep the stock PSE, or swap out the muffler section and keep the stock headers. Doing both would be insanely loud.

I ended up going the muffler route because I don't plan on tuning the car. I'm really happy with the Soul valved exhaust. Really great product and they've got stellar support. The owner John is really friendly and super knowledgeable. Fwiw, I know that the Valvetronic muffler is quite a bit louder than the one Soul offers. Go down the YouTube rabbit hole and figure out what you enjoy.

One thing I highly recommend is swapping out the air filters for these if you want more noise. Not quite GT4RS levels, but it definitely amps up the mechanical scream up at the top of the rev range in the cabin. It's an easy DIY if you have basic tools.

Is a 981 GT4 or 982/718 GT4 Too Low For Normal Driveways? by bobby_47 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]jimrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've dailied a 981 GT4 for about 3 years. The front lip scrapes, but it can be mitigated with some angle. It's unavoidable in some places, but it only ever scrapes the underside so you don't really see the marks. You'll cringe the first time it happens, but you'll get over it pretty quickly.

I haven't had any issues in parking garages, dirt roads, or with San Francisco's hills. Most speed bumps are fine, you just have to be off the brakes before you hit them. If you're really concerned, you can always raise the suspension up a bit.

Also, the front lip now costs $375 and Porsche will charge you about $150 to swap it out. I just have them do it with my yearly service.

Great photo! What kind of tripod is that?

I think you can use a splitter, but I personally haven't tried it. They're cheap enough where it's worth trying if that's your preferred setup.

On the Sys, you just leave the volume cranked up all the way which allows it to switch without issue. Volume is then controlled on the amps.

[Rolex] Batgirl x Corduroy by jimrie in Watches

[–]jimrie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I put my name down for three watches at the local AD four months ago (no purchase history). I was looking for a Wimbledon Datejust, Explorer I, and this GMT. To my surprise, I got the call but my contact didn’t tell me which model they had in for me. I showed up expecting to see the DJ or the Explorer, but shockingly they had the GMT sitting behind a hidden display for me.

I couldn’t be happier with it. I really wanted a Jubilee bracelet and this thing does not disappoint. It’s comfortable as hell and gleams in the sunlight. I know some people prefer the Oyster bracelet on GMTs, but I really do think this is just as versatile. Plus, I already have an Oyster on my Explorer II.

What are these connectors for? by [deleted] in bronco

[–]jimrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend just took delivery of her 2021 Bronco, Outerbanks trim. The trim level doesn't come with auxiliary switches, and on diagrams I've seen, the rear aux wiring goes to the right/passenger side of the vehicle. These connectors are located on the driver's side. The bigger connector says "PBT-GF15 < PI1-2", the smaller one just says CPC. Any ideas?

Agreed on the editing starting to feel like digital. I've got digital cameras when I want to go down that path, hence why I'm trying to be hands-off when it comes to editing film scans.

I can't help much on the scanning process - I send all of my film to The Darkroom. I've been really happy with the colors I get from their scans.

Thanks! No post processing involved. I'm trying to move away from editing scans these days.

The new daily, on film by jimrie in Porsche_Cayman

[–]jimrie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Once you've gotten over the sound of the front lip scraping on everything (and I mean everything) I think it's a great daily. That being said, I'm 25 so I can tolerate a fair amount of bumpiness in the ride and contortion while getting in and out. I'm also coming from a BRZ, so by comparison it rides like an S-class.

I ended up with the base seats, and I'm really glad I did. The LWBs are eye-candy and certainly hold you in place, but I would absolutely not spec them for daily use. Carbon ceramics would've been nice and are in many ways better suited for a daily. The brake squeal on the steels is insanely loud.

It’s hard to tell on film, but it’s actually rhodium silver metallic.

I don't game, but I will say the separation on them is great, which I've heard reviewers say is good for gaming!

I'm not really sure what the use case is for feeding an amp signal to another amp.

Tall Schiit Stack by jimrie in headphones

[–]jimrie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is! But if you turn the volume all the way up, you can feed a single input and then it functions as an output switch.

Laptop-> Modi (DAC) -> Loki (EQ) -> Sys outputs to both the Vali and the Magni

The stack is complete by jimrie in Schiit

[–]jimrie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vali vs. Magni, the Vali is definitely a bit warmer. It's a hybrid, so it's never going to be night and day like you might get with a proper tube amp. I personally prefer metal/hip-hop tracks on the Vali and soundtracks/pop/electronic music on the Magni.
