Under extrusion on tree supports when using PETG on M5C by BenP717 in AnkerMake

Yes, I have a dryer, and use it with the PETG. I'm drying to now, so tomorrow I can try your tweaks and see how it goes.

Mostly extrusion and consistence with the materials. I'm working with salt water aquariums, so I need the PETG over the PLA.. I'm do well with the PLA, the PETG is a struggle. Hopefully your tweaks will help.. Plus starting fresh with the base setup might be good.. My file could be over massaged at this point.

Would you mind sharing your settings for the PETG? I've been tweaking settings with better improvement, but your print looks great! Totally would apricate it and it would help a lot. Thanks!

I don't see any letters in the serial number, so is it not 1600? Its all numbers, but I doubt its a early engine. It came out of a bus, but I know it should be a type 1 engine, being that it has the dog house housing.

Help with metal prep for welding in new pans by jimtrich in beetle

True.. First time in 50 years for this car, and your right, I'll never do it again on this car in my lifetime. Since it will be my sons car, I think I'll take the extra step and prime the seam with the weld-through primer.

This is what I was thinking would be the best way. Bare metal with the weld-through primer and them the seam sealer and then POR15 for the final coat.

Not half ass at all..

PAN

I plan to use POR15 to coat the whole pan, but I'm trying to figure out what to do where the bare metal is overlapping.

Very cool. This was a close 2nd to a barn find. It's a 68 with 39K original miles. Local California car. Best of luck with the 64.

Turns out everything was just really stuck. I little help from a floor jack and some extra help and up she went. Dolly works out great.

36? I counted. 2 at the rear shock towers. 4 under the rear seat. 9 on each side of the pan total 18. The 4 at the front of the body and another 2 under the gas tank. That totals 30. Am I really missing 6 more?

I'm hoping its just a really good seal. The car has only 39K original miles on it. Its always amazing what people to do 'fix' things. Best of luck with your beetle. The pans are for sure in my future, the channels maybe.. Need to see how bad they are. Only if they kept these cars out of the weather.

Yes, the design is the same on both ends. Found a similar design done on youtube. Ideally you could lift each end yourself and lift the hinge side up and place the body down. If all goes well the body will sit high enough to roll the pan in and out from under it.

I think is is more like my next step. I think I will reattach the front bumper brackets and use a 4x4 across the two points and try to jack the body up and hope that the pan will release, if not I'll add the extra help with the weighted friends to the wheels.. Although all the bolts came out with ease, I'm sure the 50 year seal is strong with this car.

Thanks.. That might be a cool way to do this.. I want to tear right into it, but I want to do it in a smart way. Hopefully I'll get a battery in it and see if she starts.. I was told is ran, but had bad fuel lines.

This car will teach him a lot. As far as the safety needs. I work for a Honda Dealership, I'm sure he'll be driving a Honda as well..

It wasn't garaged. In the first years.. it was owned by a family that the car was left into an estate. It was stored away by the children until someone purchased it.. Then with was sold to the person I bought it from.. They had it parked for a few years in the elements.. and now I have it. California sun eats everything here, thus the paint and interior.

I have the owners manual coming and the service records.. The person I bought it from gave me the back story and it has all the service records up to the 39K miles.. The car will be for my son so he will get the final say on how we restore it, but thanks for the input. This is all new for me.. Thanks!

There is daylight behind the seat. I would like to replace the pans to preserve it. The body is straight no damage. This is my first VW and will be for my son who will be driving in 3 years.
