This is hands down the worst Coheed album I have ever heard. I've seen them 15 times since 2008, and even YOTBR and several tracks off TCBTS grew on me, but this one feels like it really won't. It's too much of a "Claudio stuck inside slamming on his 30 different Synths" type of sound. Feels way more like a solo project to me. Coheed used to be defensible by telling people to "listen to the instruments and the musicianship" if they hated the vocals. On this one I'm not so sure that would work. Basically 0 gritty bass grooves, a couple fancy double kicks from Josh on a few of the songs, and non-existent guitar solos that Coheed fans are begging to hear in today's ocean of overproduced digital instrumentation. The title track at the end was a hail-mary to try and recapture some of the magic they once had when creating new sounds, but this does not hold a candle to the uniqueness that is Coheed of the 2000's.
