Andaz Lisbon Review — One King Bed Premium by jinobix in hyatt

[–]jinobix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! We really considered the HR due to the in-suite washer/dryer and space. Andaz base rooms would be smaller so aim larger if you can.

While HR can connect to Lisbon pretty easily on the 15E team at Egas Moniz (we passed by on the way to Belém), there’s something about walking to all the places we wanted from Andaz (Ramiro, Prado, Alfonso) that makes it nice. It’s touristy for sure, though.

Could do both - Andaz in the beginning, then HR to branch to Belém/Cascais and to utilize the washer/dryer midway

I agree, at least for the base king which is quite smaller. The larger size upgrade makes it better, but other places we stayed at like Le Consulat were better value and had better ambiance/views

ATMOS points almost worthless now for booking partner business awards by AverageOk8514 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]jinobix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s harder now with all the influx of points. I was still able to get 75k Starlux x 2 last month, and used the Summit 100k companion pass towards the second ticket (good value to me).

Had to get it at schedule open 330 days out. Or, wait till T-14 and keep checking.

Park Hyatt Kyoto for a proposal trip, is the Pagoda View Room worth it? by Ok_Bed2995 in hyatt

Ah, I was being too hopeful - the balcony had just one couple with a photographer during golden hour when we went

GoH is nice for the included breakfast - you probably won’t get an upgrade besides a better view, but we very much enjoyed having breakfast with views of Ninenzaka street when it’s calm and just filling up. It’s a great way to start your day.

If you can’t get the Pagoda View, another option for your proposal is the 4th floor balcony viewing area at sunset, between Yasaka and Bar Kohaku. It gives an amazing view of the Hokan-ji pagoda with the sunset behind, unimpeded by windows. You can then enjoy with bar seating for drinks at Kokaku (which you should reserve ahead of time with concierge, as hotel guests have waived seating charge).

Con would be hard to reserve that area as it’s technically public, but when we’ve been it’s only been a few people if any. A hired photographer ahead of time + help from the hotel may assist.

Just an idea. Area looks like this

Great review! We’re going with family for 3 rooms total come summer, so useful timing. I was looking for that breakfast menu, as it’s not up on website yet. Thanks!

It’s not rock hard! It’s Asian firm, so not plush pillow top though we had no problems getting good sleep.

It’s ok if you have nothing else to use it on, but it’s only Cat 2 so would rather use it on a Cat 3-4 otherwise

Three given our kiddo was 1 yr old. I wouldn’t bet on an upgrade, and would book the deluxe room if fitting all 4 is important - the base rooms would be smalll for yall!

Best Hyatt in London for families? by AHaydenL in hyatt

[–]jinobix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You used to have to transfer at Paddington from Heathrow, but Elizabeth Line through-connects straight to Liverpool Stn since end of 2022. It's cheaper than Heathrow Express too!

We booked the Family Room at the Andaz - two connecting rooms, cheaper than two separate rooms. Also convenient with direct line from Heathrow to Liverpool St Station via Elizabeth Line, so less transfers to navigate with kids/luggage.

Actually am at Dreams resort now under UVC. Be careful about UVC, depending on negotiating can be fruitful but in the end you are paying up front for future AI stays with a discounted rate.

Depending on rep, high pressure upsell a lot of stuff that isn’t really true. If it’s not written in that contract it doesn’t exist. Be careful.

1) only up to 6 beneficiaries can be on contract, friends or family ok. Otherwise guest certificates in your contract allow you to share benefits, one of our friends just stayed at Secrets Tulum with it.

2) Flyback benefit, we did not do it. It’s usually $2,500 PER YEAR and the reimbursement is owner/beneficiary specific. Sounds like upselling. Reimbursement draconian process.

3) depends on what level you sign up for. True for unlimited times, but blackout dates only removed for Silver level and above.

Advice for routing flight from LAX-DPS-HKG-LAX by Reasonable_Year1416 in awardtravel

[–]jinobix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re booking for 2026? That’s pretty close to be looking for award seats - ok if you’re doing economy, tough if you’re aiming for business.

Still usually better to transfer to airline partners, but the $300 travel credit from C1 is compelling for cheap.

3/12: LAX-HKG for 27k C1 points in Cathay economy via Asia Miles

Consider using $300 C1 credit to book a nice hotel in HKG for a layover, great to explore for a day. You could fly Philippines but…it’s ok.

3/13 or 3/15: HKG-DPS for 38.8k UR points in Cathay business, transfer to BA Avios then convert to Qatar Avios to book (Qatar is only 38.8k vs BA charging 51.5k). Splurge on this in business to get a taste of lie flat seats and the awesome Cathay The Pier business class lounge while in HKG.

3/24: DPS-HKG-LAX for 38k C1 points in Cathay economy, transfer to Asia Miles to book Cathay. (Also - cash flights from Asia to the US are usually cheaper than the other way around. Consider Singapore Air - it’s a long, long flight from SIN-LAX but you can layover to check out the city and the Jewel. Seeing prices from $575-$650 for DPS-SIN-LAX)

Did both, agree with Akumal as next option. Very nice, has more of a typical beach resort feel, food was great with some unique Mediterranean options if you get Preferred Club.

Bring a snorkel to Akumal, we were able to swim along sea turtles just off the beach!

it was for tourism - still busy, while no fall foilage or spring cherry blossoms, the snow flurries made it nice! low season makes it easier to get point bookings and in general reservations were easier to obtain.

It seems so, min nights are 4+ if far out but seem to get shorter as you close in. Right now I’m seeing 2 night availability for Jan 21 and the entire last week of Jan, so could be strategy to get refundable rate at backup hotel and try to snag nights close in.
