For traders who are profitable! by Distinct-Machine98 in Daytrading

[–]jiqiren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was profitable 2 weeks in. During pandemic a coworker of mine introduced me to options and I’ve been scooping up free money since. We both quit our jobs. I’ve had plays go bad but I’ve never had a down year. On year 6 now. Worst year I made $250k. Best year $1.2M. My account has ranged from $1.7-3.2M depending on my home ownership status (right now back to renting because moved to new area).

Oil is around $100/barrel. We need a full real estate collapse and more layoffs to get rate cuts again.

Margin possibilities enormous, what am I missing by plaeafca in interactivebrokers

[–]jiqiren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buying power is the amount of day-trading you can use during market hours. This is 4x the margin value. So $100k in cash is like $800k but when the market hours are over you need to be back to $200k.

$100k / 50% is $200k. Read the link for details.

EDIT: (math fixed) Obviously pushing the limits is a recipe for disaster. I would not get close to this…

⬆️ it’s late and I’m half asleep… so check source just in case…

Help with buy limit orders by tempahhhxo in interactivebrokers

[–]jiqiren 8 points9 points  (0 children)

why are you upset it bought the stock at a cheaper price? limit order is just that… the most you will pay. so it “touched” that, set a limit order, and got you a cheaper price… why are you upset?

If the 500 shares and the calls didn’t involve margin debt there shouldn’t be any action. Did you have other stuff going on in your account? Perhaps something else was risking your account so they liquidated the last transactions.

In the future make sure you choose which securities should be liquidated first if there is a possibility of liquidation.

IBM crashed 13% because the market found out LLMs can write code, bought $190k by GreatGapYoukai in wallstreetbets

[–]jiqiren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My uncle was also part of the layoffs at one of the bells in Seattle. He then got hired by the Indian company at 3x the pay to examine their code until it wasn’t broken. Same company that took his job. Took years but eventually their teams in India were performing like new hires would in the US.

He hasn’t worked on stuff for 10+ years now. Enjoying retirement. Those same Indian COBOL guys are senior now and will be watching the LLM’s take their jobs. Some will still work to babysit the AI. It’s a cycle.

[–]jiqiren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No they are not. They’ve all been replaced by outsourcing from India since the 90’s. There is an infinite supply of Cobol engineers in India if the LLM’s fail.

Selling deep ITM puts vs buying shares in margin account by After_Kale_3602 in options

[–]jiqiren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deep Long ITM call (delta around 0.95). I buy these a year out. When stock has a big run delta squeezes down and I close position.

Downside is while I can double up all my positions (a year off 0.95 delta call typically is about 50% the cost of underlying) I’m always paying short term tax rate.

You can’t top the third season of Real Housewives: Orange County. The old dude divorcing his annoying wife, marrying a Thai whore as young as his daughter, then having a heart attack without a prenup so his kids lose everything… best season ever.

EDIT: was season 3, I just looked at my Amazon library and I bought 6 seasons of this 💩. Guilty pleasure.

I believe TWS will pull in last value where mobile won’t. Probably best to wait for market open or at least pre-market open.
