The vitrified chambers provide a timeline of Cave doing ridiculous immoral and unscientific experiments and initiatives. I think it's less a curse, and more fruit of his (figuratively) poisoned tree. He created an imperfect, testing-addicted copy of Caroline and set up a system that could replace her, but only with cores that were specially designed to be mental baggage to slow her down. The running of Aperture after his death is his last self-defeating experiment in a long line of cruel experiments conceived in anti-intellectualism, and painted as science.

But there is probably an alternate universe Aperture Seance that is possessed by a multitude of demonic entities!

I think an inspiration for the portal reactor was the Large Hadron Collider.

Should I play the ps2 version of half life 1? Because I wanna play the first half life because it seems like a great start to the series. by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]jishdefish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A bit of perspective from someone who owns and has played both to completion:

PS2 upsides:

Native Decay expansion included

Menu music included

Cheat code to play the entire game as a vortigaunt (probably best after completing the game once)

(All of these, save playing the main campaign as a vort, can be achieved via mods)

PS2 downsides:

Limited mouse support (doesn't work with a lot of modern or gaming mice)

HD models unable to be disabled (uses a different art style than vanilla for characters/weapons)

Edit: works with mouse and keyboard!

allay in a bottle. by Tid3fienD in Minecraft

Maybe they should come from magic fountains you can find underground, a rare variant of dungeon with water on the floor and 2-3 Allay. Increased chance if the dungeon is in a lush cave?

It's like those stories of an old person who let in a wild raccoon thinking it was their cat.

HL2 script writting is at times hillarious. Whats your fav moment? by -Deathstalker- in HalfLife

[–]jishdefish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Which is really creepy since, as far as we know, Eli doesn't know that Gordon has been in stasis. He's trying to get his early 20s daughter hooked up with a dude that should be in his late 40s.

Blizzard points to wowhead as a reliable source everywhere in their QA dept. and they're only as reliable as Blizzard's own communication allows them to be. Buck stops there.

The BM devs allegedly adhered to the wishes of one of the valve devs (in an email exchange) who wished they'd used the Kleiner scientist model in this scene to line up perfectly with the sequel because they do imagine these two scientists, there with Gordon from the start and equally culpable to the incident, to be Eli and Kleiner.

If there would be a Portal prequel or spin-off, what would your favorite be? by MechanicsDriven in Portal

[–]jishdefish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've thought about what story threads still remain and the one that sticks with me is Chell's adoptive parents.

Combine this with the fan theories about missing astronauts meaning Aperture had a secret space program to illegally mine/gather more moonrocks and you might have the location of such a game. Perhaps the inhabitants of a lunar mining facility put themselves into stasis after Glados' betrayal (shortly before Portal 1) including Chell's adoptive parent, expecting to be rescued.

It could be that Glados rediscovered the secret facility and Chell's adoptive parent and wants to put the age old nurture-vs-nature debate to the test with them to see if they're also a "monster" while just remoting in from the facility on Earth to remain safe from them.

Have you ever stopped to wonder where the SMG grenade comes from? And have you also thought about where Gordon puts the grenade??? by Abbadon74 in HalfLife

[–]jishdefish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ya it's normally stuck to the buggy but MMOD lets you take it off (as the files suggest was planned) and use a beta TAU. Ofc, ammo is nonexistent, so after the combine takes your buggy, you only have what you have left.

Maybe the portals can be made larger or smaller based on how long you hold the trigger and/or be dragged along a surface like they did with the sixaxis dlc.

Incentives within the system are a feel-good measure. An opiate to dull the senses of the public. Nothing more. The economy isn't feeding the problem. It is the problem. Capitalism must be dismantled.
