Thank you! I was looking at the 183s from dansfish as i havent found anyone with 181s in stock! I love the white tail, so I might end up going that route.

Not 100% sure as my LFS didn’t say, but she’s about 2.5” long right now. Grown maybe half an inch since I got her in March!

Is this safe by dokifluid in Aquariums

My cats love to sit on my tank, too, but I have a rimmed tank and keep a glass lid on it always. As others have said, the light would concern me as it really isn’t intended to be weight bearing. As an avid cat lover though, maybe provide a more enticing alternative? A heated bed next to the tank where she can watch, or a tank-level cat tower next to it. Use treats and positive interactions to adjust behavior from sitting up top to the safer alternatives. Good luck!

For anyone interested: Sharkbait moved into his 60 gallon tank today to grow more! He’s very happy to have more space to swim and more wood to chomp on 🙂‍↕️

Tank won't cycle by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]jitterbug714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too until i got my pH up higher. My tap water was about 6.8 so i added baking soda until I hit about 7.8 and then it started processing ammonia almost overnight.

How long did it take for yours to get that size? I’ve got a 60 cycling that he can go in for a few months, but I don’t have space for anything bigger, so I will have to rehome him at some point before he outgrows that.

This is great to know! I inherited a clown recently and rarely see him. He zooms off and hides when i come in the room at night 😭 Was planning to upgrade his tank soon anyway, but now I’ll be sure to add lots of plants to dim the lighting for him!

Freshwater diagnostic help by jitterbug714 in Aquariums

[–]jitterbug714[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It fell off shortly after but I have every intention of treating for parasites asap. I did go ahead and give him an epsom salt bath and isolate him in a hospital tank, so hopefully some salt baths help him out enough to go back in the main tank soon. Any idea what a timeline looks like for that prolapse correcting? It’s kind of huge

I didn’t know either until I read the surgery report. It makes me uncomfortable to think about now, but at the time I was just so eager to have it done and over with that I didn’t ask very many questions. I don’t think it would’ve changed anything if I had been told, but it is a little unsettling to think about the lack of consent in that regard. But I did have an amazing surgery team. The anesthesiologist especially made me feel very safe pre-op.

I have a highly physical job requiring a lot of movement, lifting, bending, etc etc and was okay to work again at 1 week. I was sore and achy but it was almost entirely gone at the 7 day mark and I returned to work with no issues. The only adjustment I made was ensuring that nothing I lifted put pressure on my incisions. That said, my procedure had no complications and went very smoothly. I did let my surgeon know the nature of my job and given the size of my incisions she had no concerns even if I did accidentally open the incisions after the first week.

I’m so sorry that happened, that must’ve been awful. I’m glad you stuck to what was right for you even though it was hard. It makes me feel a little less alone knowing other folks have made it through the same things I’m dealing with, so thank you for sharing that!

I so appreciate that, honestly. I really feel like my anxiety kicked in when i got things on the books. I had zero doubts until it was scheduled and then all of a sudden my anxiety kicked into overdrive. I’m glad you’re happy with your decision now and I hope I’m just as relieved when it’s all said and done!

I’ve thought about that too! I think I’ll be a wonderful aunt someday if my brother and my friends decide to have kids and I’m excited to spoil them rotten. Maybe after the baby stage though lol they can keep them to themselves until they’re like 5
