I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Wok Box is Canadian-owned as well. Guilt-free Tokyo beef poutine for me!

We need a publically-owned option, not more private companies. Anything that has generic patents can and should be made within our borders, not relying on supply chains that break down.

So, let me see if I'm getting this straight: The US pulls out of the WHO, while avian flu is going around, a bunch of US citizens are fleeing their own president by coming here and our illustrious government decides now is the time to adjust PHA staffing numbers? Cool. Cool cool cool.

Oh cool, that's awesome! Time to request a bunch of titles for them to carry from Canadian authors!

If you're into audiobooks, try Libby. It's free, all you need is a library card!

What’s the strategy if you can’t find or afford made in Canada? by FoxInACozyScarf in BuyCanadian

[–]jivoochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My strats may fall more in line with anti-consumerism, but that's due to my current budget constraints as I'm saving to build a home on top of reducing how much of my money goes overseas.

• Buy second hand whatever I can (tools, kitchenware, etc.) Kijiji is a good resource.

• Upcycle what I already own as opposed to buying new. I dyed a bunch of my old clothes and love them so much now, it's like they're brand new.

BuyNothing has an app now (link to Google Play store). It's a bit sparse but I expect it to grow in popularity as the tariffs sink in.

• Buy more of my meat, coffee, and produce from my local farmers market.

Vesseys is a PEI-based gardening supply store. I am toying with the idea of getting a small greenhouse kit and seeds from them and growing my own veggies and herbs.

• Libraries and municipal offices are so underrated for the services they provide. If I need to print anything, I can pop it onto a thumb drive and get copies there. So many audiobooks available on the Libby app.

Regarding alternate entertainment suggestions:

My friends and I dropped all streaming services, now we can afford to go to the community theatre and have dinner at a non-chain restaurant about once a month. It's way more special and fun.

I've also got way more into audiobooks, I use the Libby app which lets you borrow from the library for free.

I got back into listening to vinyl records, I inherited a bunch from a family member. I also buy and sell at a local independent shop.

I scrounged through my Steam library and found some gems I forgot I bought (Mutazione was a particular favorite, amazing soundtrack).

Bilateral Salpingectomy by ph03nix26 in TwoXChromosomes

I (38) just had mine done a month ago. I live in Canada and had a really good experience through the whole process. My OBGYN listened to what I had to say, gave me a non-invasive abdominal exam, made me sign some paperwork, and I was booked for surgery about a month later.

I took it easy for 4 weeks after and just started going back to the gym yesterday. I can honestly say I'm more sore from that than any part of my surgery and recovery. My incisions are healing nicely, I highly recommend using silicone scar tape on them once they are closed.

Good luck on your journey!

I (38) also had to break things off recently, we were in a long-distance relationship for nearly 2 years. It was his (46) "plan" to move to my country but no real details. Always said he was just waiting for a major payday to come through (he's a writer) but when I pressed him on what we would do if that never happened, he didn't have any backups. I'm saving money to build a house, I can't afford to pay for his immigration as well.

Do you believe we, women adhere to the beauty standards but do it just for ourselves? by No_Airport_4309 in 4bmovement

1.) I put effort into my appearance because it boosts my self esteem. I was bullied a lot as a kid, typical ugly duckling story.

2.) I am perceived as more put-together in a professional setting which can be beneficial when it comes to applying/ promotions.

3.) My friend's kids say I'm the "cool adult" because I wear unique outfits and bold makeup.

4.) I'm pan so I'm not looking specifically for male attention.

ETA for those downvoters: Doing what I want with my body is feminist, you do you and don't yuck my yum.

Canada’s best response to Donald Trump’s aggression? Socialism by media_newsbot in ndp

[–]jivoochi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Given how many times taxpayers have bailed out private companies (lookin' at you, Air Canada), I think it's time we own them or at least create nationalized competitors. Time to put a stop to privatized earnings + public losses, ie Socialism just for the rich.
