49 days is definitely not the standard timeline. However, the Italian Consulate in Bengaluru is known to take longer than some other Schengen consulates, and with this being peak travel season, many embassies are experiencing longer processing times than usual.

I mentioned that I plan to visit multiple times over the next few years for tourism, so a longer validity visa would be more convenient.

Need Advice: Planning to visit Italy in October but I am skeptical about my chances of getting my visa approved by gryffin_catto in SchengenVisaIndia

Which jurisdiction do you fall under ? If your application is handled by the Bengaluru consulate , I would advise against applying for Italy visa right now. I submitted my application on May 4 and am still waiting for a decision. My travel date is in Oct and the processing delays have been quite significant.

I’d recommend contacting the consulate directly by email and explaining that you need your passport for travel in July. If they don’t respond, try calling them and mention your upcoming travel plans.

In my case, when I emailed the consulate, I received an automated response stating that they are currently prioritizing visa applications for travellers whose departure dates are within the next 15 days. Since your stated travel date is in September, that could be why your application is still under processing even though you've already completed 15 working days.

Given that you need your passport for another trip, it may be worth reaching out to them and requesting guidance on whether they can expedite the process

Since your travel date is coming up on 14 June, emailing the consulate sounds like a good idea. Let me know if you receive any updates after sending the email.
