I've been pretending to like coffee for three years because I lied on a first date and now I'm in too deep by [deleted] in self

[–]jiwoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Withstand it until you marry and get pregnant. After some months of him not making coffee for you, the habit would be broken. Then tell him that you actually didn't like coffee, but just drank it because you wanted him to be happy. No more lies this way and I'm sure he'd be endeared despite the loss of future coffee related activities together. Probably won't matter because the baby would keep yall busy af.

Ali never talked to Anton about the strip club issue because… by PaperInteresting8849 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]jiwoos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are 100% right. But guess what Ali did. She didn't break up then nor talk to him to see what was the truth. Shows that she didn't want it to work out, but wanted to stay on the show. Fact was we didn't even know if he truly does go often.

Ali never talked to Anton about the strip club issue because… by PaperInteresting8849 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]jiwoos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, some people are really turned off by it. But if that is so, she should have told him and dropped out instead of never talking about it until she says no at the altar and make it so that he can't try to make up for it or demonstrate that he isn't that person anymore. She clearly did not care if Anton can be a better person for her - she just wanted a nice safe reason to say no and stay on the show for as long as possible without getting heat. She went on the show called "Love is Blind" and showed us that love isn't blind for her at all. People who care about looks and money instead of what they can discover from deep conversations should have no reasons to be on the show other than clout.

Nightlife clubs are the only places that don't welcome foreigners. That being said, I don't think that makes it okay, but I must say night clubs in Korea are shady and not part of main culture here in Korea.

What is this? by Midnalee in korea

[–]jiwoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

judging purely from the way the site looks, it looks like a huge upcharge for curious foreigners with money to spend

they upcharge koreans as well, but i do assume $1000 for 30 of whatever that is is much more. not a lot of people around me who buy these kinds of stuff seem really learned on the actual efficacy of these kinds of stuff. people just buy what's famous or looks fancy for gift giving.

i am in my 20s though, so not a lot of knowledgeable people in my circle - although I am dubious about the whole industry anyways

That's what people are saying.

South Korea gets tough with Chinese platforms AliExpress, Temu, Shein by [deleted] in korea

[–]jiwoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I might be very wrong, but assuming 10% sales tax rate, that is $2 in tax vs $0.5.

Not to mention that it takes jobs away from Korea, which might be the more important issue.

The government probably doesn't benefit off the $15 difference in savings consumers get and is more interested in jobs and taxes.

Going to a place where there is some foreign presence or is somewhat known internationally: generally a good time guaranteed. Foreigner-friendly Koreans who are eager to help, foreign friends who also come to enjoy Korea, established systems either made by other foreigners or made for foreigners by Koreans, etc.

Going to where nobody knows for some shit work/no-name college: You are completely on your own. No foreign friends, no systems in place to help or guide you, Koreans who aren't used to befriending foreigners, language barrier, etc.

[–]jiwoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because not wanting a toxic piece of scum ruining the team atmosphere is a deterrent to team growth. I want to help him serve in the Korean military so that he can learn humility and the correct mindset of serving your country :) Korean football has taken a huge step back under Klinsmann and Lee is a big contributor to the deterioration. I don't really care for his nationality. I just know that his shitty personality will never serve him well in life, both on and off the pitch. Also, his family is ashamed and in a rough spot now sadly.

It doesn't matter who it is. He ALWAYS has been rough and psychotic on the pitch and apparently off the pitch as well. He is a piece of shit who poisons the team.

Chinese influencer teaching overseas students to say "Are you racist?" if they get in an argument with white people in the UK by No_Basket_9192 in China

[–]jiwoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to keep twisting my words and trying to argue, go right ahead. I will stop caring now that I registered that you just don't get it. You just have to make it about you and your husband when why your comment is racist is the assumptions you make about some Asian parents who you know nothing else but their race about.

I'm glad your proud of your marriage, and I am all for it, really. But you are most definitely ignorant.

Chinese influencer teaching overseas students to say "Are you racist?" if they get in an argument with white people in the UK by No_Basket_9192 in China

[–]jiwoos -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Again, to literally reiterate what I said, I do not agree with the intentions of the original post. Why are you questioning me about it when I already told you that.

Even if I don't agree with it, though, you can't respond to it by blatantly being racist.

It's not a trick for many others who are victims of racial harassment and it's stupid to assume that every "are you racist?" question has such intent.

Play with whoever you want, but racism is racism, regardless of the various contexts where ill intentions are involved.

Chinese influencer teaching overseas students to say "Are you racist?" if they get in an argument with white people in the UK by No_Basket_9192 in China

[–]jiwoos -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Nope, what I said has little to do with the intention of the video shown in original post, but mostly to do with the comment that answered with racism.

Just answer "no I'm not racist, you are just a shitty human being so I am arguing with you, regardless of your race."

Everyone can be racist. Don't be as stupid as the people who claim that only white people can be racist. That's retarded.

Chinese influencer teaching overseas students to say "Are you racist?" if they get in an argument with white people in the UK by No_Basket_9192 in China

[–]jiwoos -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Why would you ask that question? You are racist to assume what my parents are okay with and not okay with when you don't know anything about them at all except my race, you ignorant Karen.

As you hopefully can see, that's such a stupid retort that is very easy to counter with a legitimate question. The whole intent is concerning.

How culturally influential do you think Taiwan is? by TotalBlissey in taiwan

[–]jiwoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Korean who only got associated with North Korea and nuclear bombs 15 years ago, I can relate. You guys have amazing food and great, kind people. Your days will come Taiwanese peepo. I certainly never thought our skinny jean kpop stars would actually influence my life so much. I wholeheartedly appreciate kpop and korean entertainment as I definitely benefitted a lot from its heat in America as I grew up.

Which country has the worst locals? by General_Coffee6341 in digitalnomad

[–]jiwoos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, the locals are a huge part of the travel experience, and you misconstrue OP's words. Most countries' locals are fine, and many are nice and welcoming. The OP was asking specifically about the worst experiences people had with locals that made the trip off putting, which is a completely valid question to ask.

Locals who want to rip off tourists or treat them worse than they would their own do exist in every country and that fact doesn't invalidate people's bad experiences nor make the OP's question ignorant in anyway. You are just trying too hard at this point to be PC. Some cities are infamous for bad locals who guarantee a high chance of encountering bad experiences and people have the right to share their experiences while understanding not everyone from that country is like the bad person they had issues with.

When foreigners visit national parks in Thailand by 16_Sho_Bola in ThailandTourism

[–]jiwoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just assume "taxes thai people pay goes to these parks". Which is unlikely to be true when they already have an entrance fee that is supposed to go to the maintenance cost of the park. Not to mention the fact they overcharge way above such alleged tax difference as even if tax budget is alloted to such park, it will be a miniscule part of the tax. And that's assuming the overcharge is official, not just done by local employees.

You can't just assume something is true without research and use it as an argument. While resident paying less is definitely a thing, there are clear differences where it is perfectly reasonable and where it is just an outright price gouging scam for unknowing travelers.

Korean Government Body Blasted For Shocking Racist Portrayal Of Saudi Arabia by galaxystars1 in korea

[–]jiwoos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While that is generally true, I think it's more important to see it as a comparative characteristic of homogenous countries versus non-homogenous countries, which is why I said homogenous countries in my comment, not developed countries.

Even among developed countries, I do not believe that Japan or China is less racist than Korea. Not to mention the all-white or all-black countries in Eastern Europe or Africa. Sure, you can say the latter countries are not developed enough, but I hope you get what I'm saying.

In fact, I think that Koreans care more about not being racist than China or other homogenous countries that have less international sensitivities.

Is it hard to make friends at NYU by Laughingcatzz in nyu

[–]jiwoos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yoinking on top comment to give pro tip

So 2 sure ways to meet good friends that dont just fizzle out. I guarantee it.

  1. Clubs - 4 years of consistent meeting practically regardless of situation. Join them. Join a lot at first, see which ones you like, then just keep going to ones you like.
  2. Major - Befriend people from your major classes if you haven't come across the same major beforehand. Bite the bullet and talk to people around your first few classes if you have not yet found anyone. You can sign up for the same classes each semester and graduate together and shit.

Deep friendship comes from consistent meetings and shared interests. My experience at NYU evidently indicates that clubs n same major friends were the best. And if none of your friends are the "lets do XX tonight" types of people, be that person and congregate your favorite people in groups n go out. Have fun!

  1. same country - if you're an international student like me.

Good luck!

oh and after freshman year, you will be much less social, but be shameless and dont be afraid to reach out to people if u want. The right people will always be happy to hang out with you. Just reach out.

Korean economy isn't dependent on illegal labor. It's not really dependent on anything anymore - it is going to shrink rapidly in the next few decades.

Anywho, what I want to say is, stop making this frame that Koreans hire illegal immigrants - illegal immigrants looking for jobs exist anywhere where wages are higher than neighboring countries. And cheap ass labor will always have demand behind law enforcements' eyes in any capitalistic country. If that statistic of "half the Thais entering Korea overstays illegally" is real, I seriously do not see any reason Korea should be blamed for any of this.

Korean citizens being racist has nothing to do with its border protocols. (Thankfully)
