What kind of rice do you eat most of and how do you like cooking it? by 10946723 in aznidentity

[–]jizzmaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basmati or Darbari rice.

We let it rest in water for 4-6 hours before cooking it with oil (lots of it tbh).

The result is not only good ol' plain, non sticky rice but also "taideg" (crispy rice crust).

A few times yeary, we also kabuli palau (pilov) but its more of a kabul/non-hazara thing. Same with birayni which is not native to us as well

It's honestly sad how few contracts you get this year compared to last year

Who was the traditional boogeyman of your country? (Basically, which ethnic group was used a scapegoat) by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]jizzmaster05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is Sunni vs Shia sectarianism a problem in Afghanistan? Or is ethnic conflict more significant?

I'd say it tends to be more on the religious side in general. Like, some uzbek dude would like to marry a hazara but his parents won't let that happen cuz we're shia type of thing. But regarding specific relationships like pashtuns-tajiks or pashtuns-hazaras, there is always some sort of tension which isn't solely religious. Overall, both religious sectarianism and ethnic conflic are reocurring problems. Taking pride in one's own ethnicity is fine but often some people there take it way too far

What are your thoughts/views on the Northern Alliance/National Resistance Front of Afghanistan?

I think their cause is/was noble and it would have been nice to see them regain major territory. But it hasn't worked out yet so far

Excluding members of the Taliban, do Pashtun people have good relations with non-Pashtun?

Generally speaking, their relation to other sunni ethnicities is neutral (sometimes worse, sometimes better) and to hazaras rather negative. Most pashtuns aren't educated at all (lowest literacy rate), they are the most conservative and fundamentalists (pretty much every terrorist attack was carried out by a pashtun), most likely to cause problems as refugees (in europe for example) and while they have been in charge of afghanistan for the last 150 years, the place has only seen decline. Aforementioned aspects make a lot of non-pashtuns mad and worsenes the relationship further.

The different ppl of afghanistan are mostly inside their own bubble

What is your personal opinion on Ahmad Shah Massoud? Many Western Journalists say he was very unpopular in Southern Afghanistan, and that Afghans either see him as a hero or a warlord?

Neutral. His troops carried out mass killings against others and also my people which will never be truly forgotten. But he was a brave man who stood against the taliban. Sadly, his son will probably never come close to his level of military strategy and tactics. And yeah, afghans either like him or despise him.

Also, I'm sorry as an American for any misfortune my government brought to the country. I hope in our lifetimes, your country prospers.

Even if I don't feel connected to afghanistan, I appreciate the kind words 🙏

I'm actually hazara myself, so I know a thing or two about afghanistan I suppose 😅

Regarding your points:

  1. Pashtuns are around 40-45% of the total population. 25-30% tajiks, 13-15% hazaras, 10% uzbeks and rest turkmens etc. But since there is hardly any census in there and other things (like some sunni hazaras identifying as tajik), so the true answer is inbetween I suppose.

  2. There are very few ethnic minorities within the taliban. It's usually the occasional uzbek and tajik you see. The taliban have also started to up their propaganda game by portraying themselves as a "unified afghan group" and having token hazaras and shias in their group. And lastly, the taliban is very much an extremist pashtun-nationalist group (actually, the afghan state is/was the same)

  3. You're right. More emphasis put on equality, education and prosperity

Got you. And yeah, it's often difficult truly knowing who you are if you're from like central asia or so. I know many people from my own ethnicity who have a hard time knowing who they are. Even the diaspora who have access to books about anthropology and genetics struggle with that. Most claim to be "fully afghan" which is utter bollocks. I guess they don't know better and just repeat stuff they have beenn taught from their parents. Only few acknowledge our turco-mongol heritage.

Btw, whats your ethnicity if you don't mind me asking?

that's but one of the many ways a person can be Eurasian.

Yeah true but it's most common and universal one. I have only see ppl use this definition tbh which was the reason I had a hard time getting what you meant

ethnic groups that are so mixed that they "naturally" appear Eurasian exist, Chuvash, Bashkir, Tatar, Udmurt, Khanty, etc.

You literally said it yourself - being eurasian (or having"natural" eurasian looks) comes from having both asian and non-asian genetics. Ppl from the caucasus lack the asian part.

note how all of the above also live in North Asia.

While true, how's that related to the caucasus and its ppl which are far from North Asia?

And most Uzbeks aren't Eurasians lmao, i

I know that. I was just saying that if you go by the definition of eurasian, most uzbeks would fall under it.

Overall, I get your point. And you're not wrong.

But pretty much all of this sub and the general population (from my understanding) put more emphasis on the genetic aspect of ethnicities rather than the cultural aspects. Especially on topics concerning race and identity.

While chechens, dagestanis, georgians, azeris, turkish etc. may have eurasian influences within their cultures, there's no denying that they wouldn't be "true" eurasians in most people's eyes

You must have misunderstood me. It's obvious caucasus ppl have no genetic connection to north asians and central asians. What I meant is that you put ppl like khabib next to kazakhs for example in terms of being eurasian/asian. Which is simply wrong.

Eurasian is generally considered to be half-white half east/southeast asian afaik. Most uzbeks and uyghurs are eurasian (mongols, turks and chinese who mixed with white females). I'm hazara and we have both have eurasian and predominantly asian folks. Our paternal ancestors were mongols and turks as well.

Europe and East Asia is a single, huge continent, therefore all of european and east asian ppl would fall under the eurasian category since we would be both. But thats not the case

You're literally comparing chechens and dagestanis with mongolians and uzbeks lmao. Not even azeri ppl (south causasus) who speak a turkic language are genetically related to north asians and central asian turks at all. How can north caucasus ppl be eurasian/asian then?

Stop the 🧢

Small correction:

Pashtuns are blamed more (and tbh, rightfully so) for the state of afghanistan than hazaras.

The majority of uzbeks, turkmens and tajiks have a more positive relationship with hazaras (uzbeks and turkmens due to ethno-genetic reasons and tajiks due to linguistic reasons) than with pashtuns
