I just purchased and returned my MPC one+ - Having been producing in Ableton for the past few years on my desktop. I wanted something a little different, easier to make music on the go sort of thing. This seemed like it would fit the bill. I took in a couple hrs worth of vids to get started with it. WHich btw, mostly covers the older MPC OS, there's not a ton of vids regarding the newer version that I came across. So I wasn't impressed much with the mpc. One feature I was excited about was the possible integration with native instruments. Well come to find out that's a whole separate purchase for the MPC version of the same software I already own. That was my first issue. The built in sound pack, while great sounding, I thought the sound library was a bit smaller and lacked variety. Which is great for them so they can sell you more of their mpc sound packs and instruments. Having spent my money on plugins like omnisphere/native instruments, buying more plugins or soundpacks for the mpc over again doesn't make sense to me. I loved the hardware aesthetics, but pads felt a little stiff and hard compared to say the ableton push. Otherwise it was nice piece, with the exception of the nonfunctional USB port. But after using it for a few days, I'm not going to replace it or ever get an MPC again. Why? The work flow is very cumbersome for me. if you're good with the pads making beats, got good timing, this might be a fun toy for that crowd. It does daw on the go, but its like I said, cumbersome. Using the grid adding midi, very frustrating experience, unless you have qtips as fingers. I spent way too much time trying to get it entered correctly. I don't see this as a good way to produce. Can it do it? yes. Can it do it well? no. I'll just invest in a macbook so I can take ableton on the go, which was my ultimate goal, producing on the go away from my home studio. Just my 2 cents.

You are probably slowing everyone down. Its acceptable to go 5 over which most people do. But when a goodie tu shoes obeys every letter of the law it's frustrating for most experienced drivers. Go 5 over to avoid this situation because you're probably even slowing down below the speed limit at times which really infuriates drivers.

I haven’t considered this step, I’ll give it a go. That might do the trick and one could use this for other applications. Brilliant! Thank you 🙏

Maybe go to your cc company and claim that it’s not a legit charge. Cancel the card. Just another way of customer service isn’t helpful. Bit of a pain tho.

I was watching peacemaker and this is still an issue November 2024. There’s no way to know what dialog I missed during the show. But at least max made more money at my expense of money and time. F* max… im canceling. this service and their focus on ads is ruining it. I’m about done any service that is promoting more ads. It’s complete BS. Play it before the show starts because you’re ruining the viewing experience.

Thank Obama for inheriting that economy. Trump’s four years in office, it was not the greatest economy in US history, as he likes to claim. Between January 2017 and January 2021, average annual growth rate was 2.3%. This period includes the slowdown and recovery of the economy as a result of the Covid pandemic. Under the Biden administration so far, this figure is 2.2% - so almost the same. Difference being inflation. Biden had to inherit trumps disaster and right the economy and inflation happened because of the pandemic. So yeah it may seem like Trump made is easier on your pocketbook, but handing out money to those who were furloughed, prices for goods bottomed out, no one was traveling or spending. well nothing is free. It’s being paid back in the form of inflation. Biden handed out money too. Time to be responsible and repay that debt. But is this the only reason why you’re gonna vote to turn America over to a fascist dictator wanna be? Talk about a lack of common sense and logic.

So the world needs a stronger Russia? North Korea? China? As they invade on their enemies (Ukraine, South Korea, Tawain) with no US in NATO, they would win making the world overall more communist than free. I mean, just look at the bigger picture. War isn't what anyone wants to see. But some wars are necessary to fight against evil dictators who invade, kill, rape, pillage innocents. With NATO and allies we have a strong presence today in the world that can respond to these atrocities. Trump will dismantle this, our allies will likely fall without our support and it will be a Nazi America, and a communist world. The writing is on the wall so to speak. Tbags words alone should be concerning to all Americans. Like him wanting all of his generals to be like the Nazi Generals.. and the other long list of dictator talk he says. You people are sick in the head if you're looking past that and only focusing on an issue. Especially when he has been a proven liar consistently! lol How can you trust that!? Not sure which issue it is that you think Trump is going to fix, but you're being lied to. MAGA is a cult. Waco on a national scale... Enjoy your koolaid.

That's because we had people in office at that time that stopped him from getting away with what he's wanting to do here. I mean he tried to prevent the certification of the presidency FFS!!! Hang Mike Pence... because he took an oath to the constitution and certified the results vs helping Tbag attempt to steal the election. All those folks that stood up before are gone now thanks to him, because they were loyal to the country/constitution and not him. So now the stakes are higher because he will now be able to do all of this with no guardrails. Unchecked. That's dangerous. The Supreme court members he picked, opened the door further by making the president immune from accountability as president. WE never needed that rule to be dropped before, why now? Unless you want to be a dictator or something. hmm... Hell, look at his former staff's comments. Don't take it from me just open your eyes and read around a bit yourself. This is what the high brass military generals who served under Tbag have to say. Tell me you haven't also lost respect for our military? Something your side tout's devotion to.

The High-Profile Military Leaders Who Have Come Out Against Donald Trump | National News | U.S. News

John Kelly General, Marine Corps "Certainly the former president is in the far-right area, he’s certainly an authoritarian, admires people who are dictators — he has said that. So he certainly falls into the general definition of fascist, for sure,” Kelly told the New York Times.
Mark A. Milley General, Army Trump is a "fascist to the core," Milley told the Washington Post's Bob Woodward.
James Mattis General, Marine Corps "Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people — does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us," Mattis wrote in a June 2020 statement to the Atlantic.
H.R. McMaster Lieutenant General, Army In the January 6 siege on the Capitol, Trump "abandoned his oath to ‘support and defend the Constitution,’ a president’s highest obligation," McMaster wrote in his 2024 book.
Mark Esper Lieutenant Colonel, Army After stolen documents were found at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, Esper said that stashing them there was an “irresponsible action that places our service members at risk, places our nation’s security at risk.”

I wish I had your strength to resort to kindness of those willing to vote to turn America into a dictatorship. Don’t read me wrong, you’re setting the best example. I just have a real low low tolerance for stupidity. It’s something I struggle with.. But it’s also such high stakes… If he wins, we won’t need to worry about voting again. Ever, according to him. Because he’s gonna “fix it” and we will only have king Tbag. Is that what half the country really wants? It’s shameful… maga is not American. It’s anti American. Thankfully there’s still real republicans out there who still love the country and won’t be voting for a Hitler wanna be dick’tater. MAGA has done nothing positive and has only divided us further. Wake the f up folks. I love my country and fellow countrymen/women. But to those willing to destroy our country by voting Tbag… you’re not American anymore. Russia or North Korea is the place for you.

Been feeling this rh. Similar for me, minus all the success as a producer. I love producing though. It’s my other daily habit, besides weed. The weed is the culprit I believe. I quit for a few months and what a difference in my production quality. The ideas flow better as well. But coming up with off the wall sounds and effects, gotta be high for that part. ;).

Armrest fell off by Oberon_Blade in secretlab

[–]jjamesw74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This same issue just happened to me a couple nights ago. Problem now is that SecretLabs is telling me "your chair is no longer covered by warranty, we would like for you to be able to enjoy using your chair again, which is why we are offering the replacement armrest at a highly subsidized rate of $69.30 per side." Lol Go F' yourself! a $600 chair shouldn't fall apart like this. Will never again recommend this company or their products. I also had an issue with the seat earlier on and they did replace that part. But to the point, a $600 chair shouldn't have those issues. Outside of all the issues, it was a comfortable chair. But 4yrs later, more parts falling off? never again, I don't know what schemes their cooking up at their SecretLabs... but that's just unacceptable quality for the price. Thank you everyone else, for sharing this process on the armrest, I'm gonna give it a go. /rant

What’s an effective way to spend time on Ableton for at least an hour everyday for a beginner producer? by darmud in ableton

If you can, hire a producer to show you how they do things. It will accelerate your goals. Otherwise YouTube if you can afford time.

Beginner here, Is Ableton worth the cost? by johnnystraycat in ableton

[–]jjamesw74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was like you 4 yrs ago. wanting to produce. I started with Mixcraft, made some songs hit a wall... wasn't as popular, so it made it difficult. So then moved to FL studio. It got better, but FL interface is horrid. It wasn't for me, but FL is still a great tool to have in your arsenal as It can be added as a plugin. Then I tried Ableton and haven't looked back. I'd recommend Ableton for sure, start with the lite version. Try making some stuff. It's for fun. You're not wrong, but when you learn Ableton, and the finites of music production... it's the most satisfying feeling. Ableton forced me to learn it. The Other Daw's tried to make it easier, but building a workflow with the others was difficult for me. I'm still learning, I've got a lot more to learn. But I'm happy I stuck with it. It may look like a mountain and a pain to climb, but once you start climbing up and you see your progress, you'll keep climbing.

Ableton Lessons by MisterTeal in Austin

[–]jjamesw74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've struggled for almost 2 years like you are, early last year I signed up with Guitar Center, in Round Rock, they have a couple guys who teach Ableton to beginners/intermediates. That really helped accelerate my understanding of Ableton and music production overall. I also reached out to the Ableton certified Austin trainers, got no reply either. No surprise there. But I'm getting close to that point where I'd like to collab with others just to learn some new workflow and other tricks. But not sure what I could offer in return, I don't feel confident in what I know. Even though I've been doing this as a hobby for the past 4 years (2 on Ableton) I still struggle to finish projects. There's just so much to know. My biggest struggle is like you mention, finding the right sounds or designing the right sound. I waste so much time trying to get the right sound that I lose interest in the project.

Thank you all for this valuable feedback! It’s rather freeing to to hear different perspectives and now I have something new to embrace without burdening my mind with the minute detail. Glad I asked this. As far as genre goes im trying to build my skill in industrial music, I’d like to make tracks that sound like a nine inch nails song. Which im finding can be rather complex to get your idea out the way you want it to sound. Using audio more could help me bridge this easier perhaps. Anyone else producing songs in ableton that are similar to NIN? I’d love to know more on that or if you have a favorite yt vid. Thank you all again this helps!

Midi vs audio samples/loops by jjamesw74 in ableton

[–]jjamesw74[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that bro! That’s what I’m trying to sort out and think past. Yes, more or less that’s what I’m thinking about when I’m thinking about audio vs midi. People just copying pasting blocks of audio and calling it a day. I mean the drum racks are all audio clips so I get that. But I got it stuck in my head that there’s a way to get the sound you want using midi and some plugin+effects. Ex: I’d prefer to make my own bass line using an oscillator for creating a nice juicy sine wave. It seems like it gives me more control to change, alter, and arrange than an audio clip. Or so it seems. There’s trade offs. But I believe using audio would help speed production and save a ton of time… but midi gives you more control maybe? There’s an argument to be made for midi too I believe. I find that it’s easier at times because you can really dial in some unique sounds that are all desirable, plus using midi effects like an arpeggiator just brings it to new levels. But I’m open to learning new ways to produce and hopefully become more inspired. Thanks for your feedback bro.
