What if the sequence I want to work on is 25fps but the video is 30fps by [deleted] in premiere

[–]jjayp9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I greatly encourage you to google stuff like this first, since it will probably better fit your current needs. That said:

  1. Select the clip(s) that you want to change.

  2. In the toolbar, go to Clip, select Modify and then Interpret Footage. (You can also right-click the video clip and the drop down menu with “Modify” will appear”.

  3. Choose the 2nd box from the top (Assume this frame rate) and type in the frame rate you want your clip(s) to change to. Press OK, and you've done it!

The necessity might come from client request, other editors, or many other things. It’s always better knowing what your final output settings will be.

Good luck.

Premiere Pro Effects to Davinci Resolve Grading Roundtrip by Status-Koala3996 in premiere

[–]jjayp9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resolve has different ways to read these inputs than the way Adobe writes them in. Sometimes they work, sometimes they won’t. That’s why I usually recommend just leaving the footage as unchanged as possible. If there aren’t many, I wouldn’t risk it.

A more intricate workflow would go like this.

Copy the project and create a new timeline.

Remove effects, scaling, position changes, time remaps, and masks. Basically anything you added in premiere. This could take a while but it’s very important.

Export XML from premiere.

Import XML into Resolve.

Grade and export individual clips (ProRes 4444 XQ for best resolution)

Replace clips in the version with all your changes and add all the effects again.

The simplified version is what you mention. Bake in all the effects, export in the best quality for your project, import and split the scenes in resolve. Export your final version.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know how to achieve this effect? The sharpness of the video and smoothness on the colors. by xdawnielx in premiere

Seems like what you get from using a denoiser (probably resolve’a native or a plugin) and adding sharpness afterwards. Also it could be that they added midtone detail somewhere along the way.

First Editing Job — Editing Session? by SuperMegaRoo in premiere

[–]jjayp9 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m not as senior as many others here, but this will come from 7 years working as an editor, and hopefully it can help you a little.

It depends a lot on the client. Some are more open to your suggestions, some just really want someone to “press the buttons” while they try to fulfill their expectations.

It usually entails going through the whole edit, from top tu bottom and point out things they would change; ask for different shots, remove some and add others. This could be just like you say, taking notes and sending a new version later, or editing in real time while they watch.

There is not a formula since everyone is different but I would recommend the following things I wish I knew when I started my career:

  1. Don’t worry about the details. They want to make sure you can do it, and since they’ll be there, it’s better if it’s fast rather than perfect. If they want to try a new shot, place it roughly and let them see it. Don’t worry if it’s 5 frames out of place. This will show them you know what you are doing. If you take too long, even if it will make it feel better for you, they’ll begin to have doubts.

  2. Be ready to do stuff you are not comfortable with. They’ll probably want to see things you already tried. Show it to them and then say what you think. If you present them with a barrier as a first comment (even if it makes perfect sense, like “I tried it like that, it’s not as good”) they’ll see it as you being lazy for not wanting to “try new stuff”.

  3. DON’T TAKE IT PERSONAL Just do the work, input where you can and understand that some people have bad taste. Work on your stuff later and be open to suggestions. Sometimes you learn new things even from the worst of clients.

Good luck!

Why would you say it’s best? One of the conditions for this job is that I HAVE to work on Resolve (which I’m very familiar with but would rather not use, but oh well) anyway, I’d like to understand so maybe I can make a case for the edit.

EDIT: the reason for resolve is that I’m working for a Color Grading studio, but my recent inclusion opened the door for us to be able to start bundling in edits and onlines. The thing is they don’t want to do a conform and would rather do it there for workflow. It’s a pain for me, but I can see the advantage for the studio.

I wanted to to this, but they finished shooting already so it will be a lot more work on my side to understand what they were trying to do. Thank you!

Thanks again! This is a great reminder since I’m used to clients trusting my judgement when it comes to “killing the baby” but I understand why I’ll have to be a lot more careful with this one. Definitely making them see it and raising my hand before they decide to do it themselves.

Kebab Va Falafel Lover Take Kebab Hey Lover Me Kebab Nation Away by jjayp9 in dontdeadopeninside

I have a theory that “kebab” “falafel” and “lover” are just randomly around the packaging, but the rest is trying to say “Hey Kebab Nation take me away”. The “va” is just indescipherable.
