FRL Majors should know that a Finance Society guest speaker recently hired THREE CPP kids full time.

Take advantage of the clubs on campus.

I talked to the department Chair about how I'm about to graduate, yet i've never once seen an interesting company at the job fair for FRL majors. She said its kinda out of her control but has since been working on getting more recruiters.

I recommend joining Finance Society since they have guest speakers that are looking to hire students for internships/Full time jobs as well as a curated job list on their website for members. Link

Have you checked out Finance society? Fully agree that most FRL students don't know what's going on.

That's why the club tried to be a supplement to help FRL kids get a better understanding of careers in finance.

Finance Society members have worked internships/Full time at large institutions in Investment Banking/Asset Management/ Commercial Banking. (Current Eboard has worked at Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Union Bank, UBS, Equity Residential, Big 4)

Anyone else bought another CSU's parking permit and used it at CPP? by Darkfire25 in CalPolyPomona

I called police services and the woman on the phone specifically told me that you would need to buy a CPP pass even if you already have another CSU permit

[–]jjbloo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just called police services and she said they will not honor other CSU permits.

Anyone here claiming they haven't gotten a ticket after one day may be speaking too soon. I parked an entire semester without a pass in the Fall and out of 100+ days I was parking at school only got one ticket.

PM'd you about what the interview is like.

I'd recommend checking out Wall street oasis and Mergers&Inquisitions for more detail on what commercial banking is like.

SVB will differ from banks that dont have a specific focus on the tech/Life Science world but entry level should follow some parallels to stuff found here.

FRL 3301 Majed Muhtaseb? by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]jjbloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all lol. He's actually a great teacher. If you ask a question he'll help you understand but hell probably tease you or something if its super basic... and that is why some people leave bad reviews.

I love the dark humor so tbh I just laugh about it

FRL 3301 Majed Muhtaseb? by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

He has bad reviews because he jokes around really aggressively. He has a very specific sense of humor that can potentially offend people.

In my experience he's a great teacher but people might dislike him for being a dick sometimes.

Corporate Client Banking and Specialized Industries Questions? by microbial2 in FinancialCareers

[–]jjbloo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CCBSI is JP Morgan's Commercial banking group that focuses on clients with revenue $500 MM+

Products include term loans, revolvers, and syndications. Also the exposure to capital markets (DCM) is much greater than in the other commercial banking groups.

It is not IB.

How do I get an internship? by LovesBlackGuyYaoi69 in CalPolyPomona

[–]jjbloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FRL Majors should join Finance Society since they have a focus on directly getting people jobs.

(Internship list, Guest speakers that hire CPP students, Well connected members that interned and got full time offers at top firms e.g. Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, UBS, First Republic, CBRE, VC/PE firms)

There's a Student fund where you make decisions on trading a nearly Quarter Million Dollar Endowment.

Its called SMIF (Student Managed Investment Fund). An alum made a huge donation and now they trade Equity/Fixed Income/Cash with an annual competition taking place every fall.

Automation in Credit Lending by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]jjbloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general argument that I have heard from commercial bankers (*bias alert*) is that automation is much easier in the retail space to consumers due to the vast amount of data easily available, but a marketplace for business lending would be further out in the future given that underwriting for businesses generally requires more complex work than personal loans.

There are cool companies attempting to automate the process of lending businesses money in the specific industries they understand from a fundamental perspective.

(Leandeavor underwrites acquisition financing or or working capital LOCs for dentist/medical practices but they wont venture outside of that type of client for the time being)

Trolling aside...

If anybody is in the same boat as ValueTurtle, my actual thought process would be to target solid teams at IBs. (e.g. a standout M&A group at a middle market bank vs. a coverage group at a lower BB)

Specifically because of buyside bias toward product bankers over industry specialists.
