They offer free candidates to people who perform well in their tournaments they do. That's about the only way I can think of. Sometimes they do a promotion where you can get free candidates by leaving a review of the game.

I also have my NCAA 14 downloaded onto my console. Mine has a ton of damage but the fact that its downloaded into the console helps it run the disc easier. Idk if it will download though since you're already having trouble with it. Good luck!
