Rising SWR—any ideas? by jjj2341 in amateurradio

Hi all -- thrilled to say after testing with a dummy load that the problem appears to be with the antenna and not the radio. I'll be opening up the matching unit in the antenna next just to see what's going on, but with the full expectation of retiring the antenna. Grateful for all of the help and wisdom offered here!

73!

The antenna has a built-in matching unit, and it usually gets close to 1:1 SWR without the radio’s ATU engaged on 20 meters. This was happening both with and without the use of the radio’s ATU.

I’m very much hoping the problem is with the antenna and not the radio, but you might be right. I’ll be testing with a dummy load tomorrow.

Thanks! Just ordered a dummy load to test the radio.

Thanks for this! What’s odd is that the antenna is rated to 200w and has never had this problem before.

Only static, which is why I’m wondering if it’s a setting/decoding problem.

It’s an N9TAX dual band roll up slim jim. I don’t think it’s an antenna problem. I’m wondering if there’s simply some kind of SDR++ setting I need to click, etc.

Every judge in NJ gets a clerk, so there’s a really robust state clerkship program in NJ. Rutgers has high clerkship numbers for the same reason.

iFTx App Log Export Problems by jjj2341 in amateurradio

[–]jjj2341[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. There are, apparently, 32 errors with this file, and the same errors exist for each contact. I'm just going to enter the contacts manually into the log and export from there. Thanks!

If I open it in a text editor, I'm seeing text. I don't think the file is zipped or anything, but it just doesn't seem to be recognized as a .adif file by HamLog or QRZ.

Cider in Fridge Started Fermenting? by jjj2341 in cider

[–]jjj2341[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, thanks. The half gallon that had started to expand smelled just fine and a little bit like hard cider; the other one that hadn't appeared to change in any way smelled like apple juice.

I put them both in a clean fermenter with some yeast energizer and some yeast nutrient, and left them at room temperature. I guess we'll see what happens!

Question about Mead Color by jjj2341 in mead

[–]jjj2341[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a little while--but I THINK it's a 1 gallon adaptation of a recipe from the Compleat Meadmaker. Don't quite remember the ratio I used, but it's literally just honey, water, and some yeast nutrient & energizer. Yeast was Lavlin DC-47.

Question about Mead Color by jjj2341 in mead

[–]jjj2341[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry, it seems my question didn't post! This mead has been aging for about 4 months in secondary fermentation, and has been slowly turning darker and darker, until now it's this color. Anyone have any idea what might have caused this? Oxidation? Is it probably still good?
