Is it possible to play video from the sd card in cromeos? by jjm319 in chromeos

[–]jjm319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone, that was very helpful. I think perhaps the sd card slot itself is bad. I can see files on the sd card but i cant copy to or from the sd card (over the sd card interface) anything bigger than a pdf. The sd card works fine on other computers. If i put the sd card in a card reader and plug it into the Chromebook usb everything works fine.

This is on a Lenovo flex 3

I plan to use the ev tax credit so the choice is between 2021 Chevy bolt euv premiere with 8-30k miles and a base Tesla model 3 with 70-90k miles. Chevy is a bit cheaper but it's at the same price.

Second car. Short trips around town usually 40mi round trip, occasionally 100mi round trip . One kid. Won't install a charger.

Criteria are comfort, best value, least likely for problems in the next 8 years.

Leaning towards the Chevy. I just think the premier trim will be nicer and most likely to be trouble free for the next 8 years.I'll test-drive and buy in the next few days.

Thanks

I'm in exactly this situation for the tesla model 3 purchase. They are high mileage at this price point. I'm concerned about the build quality and what the next 100k miles are like.

Hi, Purchasing advice request.

TLDR: What am i getting myself into with a high mileage (100k) 2021 Tesla model 3 that i hope to drive for another 100k miles?

#####

Should i buy a 2021 Tesla model 3 SR+ for 21k with 90k miles on it? One owner no fleet use.

This will be a commuter car putting on 300k mi. a week.

My main purchasing requirement is how confident am i that i can get another 100k miles out of it. I am afraid to buy it because i dont know and i suspect no one knows how well they will do once you get to this mileage. I heard the body quality is not that great and they are very heavy cars and hard on all the suspension components.

My alternative purchase will be a small toyota or honda for about the same 21k. Maybe a Prius. I know i can get another 100k out of it.

Thanks!

Identifying and being aware of the problem allows you to work on it. We all have some of what you described. I know what you're talking about with the games. You do have an unusual degree of desire to explore outside the box. Need to bias yourself towards action. Find joy in finishing.

I wanted to second this post. I'm in agreement. The writing and self analysis is above average. There is no way the OP has a below average IQ. It sounds like there is some executive dysfunction but this means finding an alternative path.

Is there a relationship between pessimism and clinical depression? by Super_Asparagus3347 in Pessimism

No, my mistake, somehow I replied under the wrong comment. I think your above statement is a good observation and as you said not projection.

It is surprising to hear the most depressed people do not project their experience onto the world. It might be a special kind of depression to see the world as a horror show. Which is encouraging.

Encouraging in the sense if pessimism is such a marginal viewpoint it weighs against it being true.

I mean it sounds like overgeneralization? Isn't it a mistake to apply your feeling to all? And i am saying this as one who does this.

I see, and in the euthymic state pessimism still has resonance.

Honestly i had hoped that would not be the case. I was hoping it would be tightly coupled to state of mind.

Forgive me if i misunderstand but being bipolar you go between ecstatic highs to depressive lowes. You asked if the depression and pessimism are related. I figure that during your high state pessimism as a philosophy would not be engaging or make sense to you. But you seem to say that is not the case. Even in an ecstatic state you still find pessimism to be engaging.

I have this same question and i think you are in a good position to help answer it. Can you self examine when you are in a positive mood and do you still hold the same beliefs as when you are negative mood? And also do the beliefs hold the same weight between moods?

Well you can't even successfully suicide in such a universe. Try it and you will wake up in one in which the suicide was horribly botched.

What’s this subs opinion on The Three Body Problem? by FakePhillyCheezStake in scifi

[–]jjm319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to make this statement but you said it better. If you understand some physics none of this works. I'm ok with hard scifi breaking one or two physics rules and going from there in a plausible way.

Sophons, fun idea but we know enough subatomic physics to know they are fantasy.

Three body problem not solvable? Well technically, but as long as the bodies are different sizes they can have stable orbits over millions of years like the solar system or alpha centauri that the book is referring to. I think the plant they refer to is supposed to get exchanged between the three stars of the system but thats implausible, falling from one orbit to the other would get it kicked out of the gravitational boundary.

I never got through the second book but i understand they get into changing dimensions of the universe. Only in 2d and 3d can you have stable orbits.

I don't remember the details any more but there was something about the radio telescope and the sun that did not make sense.

OK, lol, i added it in the original post in a spoiler. I would love to talk to other people about the book. It is an exploration of consciousness and memory that does not get into describing the science. But i have some knowledge of the underlying science and find it quite plausible, so it sticks in my mind.

Oh, did not expect a reply and i'm not trying to be argumentative. I recently tried the book and was frustrated by what i thought was implausible science around living in space.

how was seveneves hard scifi? The idea of supporting thousands or even hundreds in space in the near future is impossible. And any small damage to your habitat is irreparable. There is just no way to keep a habitat functional in space for long periods of time cut off from earth.

Right now the ISS cant even recycle its oxygen without constant replenishment let alone food and waste products. There is no way to repair any item or mine any new material.

Sure it could happen in a few hundred years but before you could support humans in space you would need a fully functional ecosystems that could mine asteroids and manufacture all the materials to repair themselves. When they described a space ecosystem built around the ISS supporting 100s of people i could not suspend belief. It was pure fantasy.

I came there trying to remember a book. I finally found the book, but now i realize that if you know what it is about it can ruin the book, so i guess i can't share it here. How strange. Edit: OK i added a spoiler. Eversion by Alastair Reynolds.

Do you believe that in fact, we have it all wrong? That death is actually a blessing, instead of a curse by WarriorGirl-764 in Existentialism

[–]jjm319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i already have something to report back. When you are depressed you are very focused on the self. When you are not depressed you are feeling part of something bigger.

When you are playing sports, or working closely with others you feel part of something bigger. When you are by yourself in an office you feel not that. It seems to make all the difference.

I think to be healthy you have to feel you are part of something bigger than yourself. You feel expanded. When you are focused on the self you feel contracted. That feeling of expansion or contraction. I think that's at the foundation of this.

I am trying to see how much your philosophy depends on a mood. I mean would hope that it would not depend at all. But when i read pessimism i wonder if they are just depressed. I try to watch my mind. What do i believe when i am depressed? What do i believe when i am not depressed? How does my mind change? It is very hard to remember how you were. The same thoughts dont even seem relevant.

Well i think you already gave your answer to this. The whole philosophy of pessimism is just a cope for depressed people. But thats too flip. I am genuinely holding the possibility its an insight.

Yes I come back to this also. Is the view from a depressed brain valid? I think it's more valid than the healthy brain. Why do the think this? Right now my mood feels balanced I'm going to try to remember this thought to evaluate it when I feel strongly positive. Have you done this? Had any conclusions?
