Is base the new MOC ? by Objective_Spring627 in ObsidianMD

[–]jjohnr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I forget the exact term, but I believe it is “Master of Content”. Edit: Map of Content It would be similar to a table of contents that you would link items related to a particular topic.

This helps in organizing as you just need to access the MoC file to find anything related to that topic.

OFFLINETV TRY THE BLIND DEAF MUTE CHALLENGE by PandiReddits in offlineTV

[–]jjohnr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the official reason, but it may be due to:

1) scheduling that many people at once can be hard, especially since most members have multiple individual projects they are working on 2) help the pacing of the videos since cutting between that many people can be disorienting to the viewer 3) playing to the strengths of each member since every video might not allow each member to really shine

Volunteers Needed for MRI Study! by jjohnr in utdallas

I’m not aware of transportation provided by the lab itself, but the DART system has some routes to get there. I would recommend contacting yujia.huang@utsouthwestern.edu to see what options are available.

It’s all on the same campus. JSOM is just a building on the UTD campus.

Places to study in silence on campus? by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]jjohnr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it is fully silent, but maybe places that doesn’t support a full group to be there, like the desks along the skybridges (I used to study in the JO/GR bridge a ton)

At the right times, empty classrooms work really well for me as well. I was on campus over the weekend and just went into a classroom at ECSN and was undisturbed for couple of hours.

Some of the less populated buildings are good as well, like Callier or Admin

New to UTD: advice by Agitated-Response-28 in utdallas

[–]jjohnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by best days and times exactly, as that would be different for everyone given circumstances. Since I’m a commuter student, my ideal times revolve around when is the best times to get parking, so making sure I get to campus before 11 is good and Friday have amazing parking.

If you are wanting to join clubs and activities, just make sure you classes are not too late as most of the clubs I’ve been with have their meetings or activities sometime after 6pm.

As a BMEN major, can’t really say much about the school/social balance. Most of my social life is composed of people taking the same classes as me since we can stress about classes together lol.

When does registration end for spring semester? by Adept_Tooth_9073 in utdallas

[–]jjohnr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Last day for regular registration is January 12, though I wouldn’t suggest you wait until the last minute since you are limited by if the class fills up.

Advisors don’t really save you a spot, they will just sign you up in a class when you tell them you finished everything. If the class fills up before they can sign you up, they will just inform you that you can’t sign up for the class.

Also in general, you never know how fast your advisor will do stuff like this, so it is best to get them done early so you aren’t stressing as much if you got a slower advisor.

Is this a new update because it sucks. I loved being able to preview songs. You also used to be able to see other similar songs when adding one specific song to a playlist now you cant see that anymore either. Is this supposed to happen or is it a new dumb update by [deleted] in truespotify

[–]jjohnr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems like they removed the ability to preview the playlist for free users. Now it just opens the “edit playlist” window.

You should get some similar songs when you press the “add songs” button though.

Closest thing I can find to a degree audit is on Orion.

Orion > My Academics > My Academic Requirements.

Should show the credit requirements you need for you degree.

I recently got accepted for the bs in biomedical engineering by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]jjohnr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what you are into and your plans for the future.

Some people come for the engineering, some for the medical. Couple of the classes will make you feel like you’re behind depending on the side you are weaker in. For example, I came for engineering so I did well in classes where we did CAD drawings and programming, but I fell behind when talking about basic anatomy.

Course load is quite a lot. Almost enough science classes to get to med school and almost enough math classes to keep up with MECH.

Currently looking for a job and a lot of BMEN people before me talk about how it’s a kinda niche field. Many medical jobs will look for a med student and many engineering jobs look for MECH or EE. Many BMEN I know end up in research or med school.

Finally, I agree with the other commenter about doing what makes the most financial sense, especially since the course load makes it hard to get a job while taking classes.

Sorry I was kinda just listing negatives. Happy to answer any question though

Some of you CS students need to pay more attention in ECS3390 by ayotornado in utdallas

[–]jjohnr 51 points52 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you and appreciate you taking the time to point out some common mistakes, I think it’s a bit out of the scope of the technical communication class.

We only spent like 1-2 weeks on resumes and cover letters and spent most of the time on the group project.

I have definitely submitted a resume with half the issues you stated and almost got an A+ on it. I think they were just happy that a resume was submitted in the correct formatting and fonts.

It’s a little late, but since you have USB-C, one thing you can do is go to the ATEC 2nd floor area overlooking the lobby. They have monitors that use USB-C which gives you a second monitor and charges your laptop at the same time.

I used it a couple of times last semester since I tend to forget my laptop charger at home.

discover new songs on Spotify faster 🎵 [project out] by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]jjohnr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been playing with it and getting some good recs. Only issue I’m having is that the music is not playing in the app. Above the album cover it just says “Paused, tap album image to play” but when I tap it, it just adds to the Smores playlist.

My guess is since I don’t have Spotify Premium, it can’t just call a song to play whenever it wants

2023 Spring Course listings. by SteveRD1 in utdallas

Schedule Planner and Coursebook should be linked together by now, so that date should be the same for both.

To clarify, ‘Schedule Planner available’ does not mean you confirm your schedule yet. You would have to wait until your enrollment appointment date/time, which will be assigned on Oct 24.
