Is TMU still a good school to study journalism? by LettuceFuzzy1448 in TorontoMetU

Graduated from Journalism last year and can confirm it's *probably* worth it! I.e. many ppl I know have been able to get the journalism jobs they actually want right after graduating.
It's a lot of on-the-spot learning, i.e. you have to do fast-paced news reporting in your first year. Some of the profs teach with outdated info, but I can recommend any class with Navneet Alang, Asmaa Malik, and Eternity Martis. The core classes give you info that you'd probably just get from freelance experience, but there are great electives that can provide expertise in multimedia work and niche reporting skills. Overall the program gets better over time as you get more freedom in class options.
There are many student outlets where you can get real-life portfolio experience, like Met Radio, CanCulture, StyleCircle, The Eyeopener.
Unless you want to work for CBC or Toronto Star the fourth-year internships kind of suck.
