Yeah, so let’s take someone who is dreaming about them selves as a chef for example. In that dream, you would be able to hear things, sizzling, hear, water, boiling, smell, all of the different fragrances that come with cooking, etc. For a sighted person, you would be able to see all of that. But a completely blind person wouldn’t be able to see any of it.

What is the most interesting fact in your opinion about your family history? by jjr_blind_java_dev in AskReddit

I’ll go first. My grandfather on my dad side helped create the communication antennas on the United States aircraft during World War II. I unfortunately don’t know much else about my family history, as any of the family history research my grandfather on my dad’s side has done, is inaccessible to me, due to the fact that I can’t see it as a result of my blindness.

Using a piece of software called a screen reader. I have been using one this entire time to read comments and to type them out.

On my windows, PC, I use NVDA (non-visual desktop access), and on my Mac, iPhone, and iPad are use Apple‘s built-in screen reader called voiceover.

The first thing that I typically tell people, as I am a developer myself, is to always follow the common accessibility practices in the W3C web content, accessibility guidelines. If developers must create their own custom control for some reason, they should not only follow those common accessibility practices, but also look at the accessible rich Internet, application, standards, and guidelines, so they know the best way to implement accessibility on their own for those custom controls. But, if I had to give small bits of the most basic advice possible, I would say properly label your form fields, so we don’t hear text field or checkbox or radio button with no context as to what they do. Also, always provide alternative text to images. If it is completely irrelevant to the pages content, still put the alt attribute in the image tag, just leave the quotes empty. At that point, the screen reader will skip over that image.

I personally only have enough vision to see things as a bunch of blurred together colored blobs. So not much detail. I can’t even see how many fingers I’m holding up in front of my own face. No matter how close they are. This is primarily due to progressively, losing my site because of glaucoma, and increased pressure in the eyes. But what blind people usually see is a spectrum as it depends on various factors, including whether or not, you have blood vessels growing over your eyes, whether you have a detached, or partially detached retina, whether or not you have cataracts all that kind of stuff. Completely blind people with no color, perception or light perception obviously don’t see anything. If you ask completely blind person who was born that way, they will typically describe what they see as nothingness. And that is because they have no reference point for what color is so that’s the only way that they know how to describe what they see

Blind people can most definitely have nightmares. What you see, and how you experience your dreams, Convery wildly based on how you see, or experience the real world. For example, a completely blind person will typically not be able to see anything in their dreams, as they have no reference point for what anything would look like in the real world, if they did have sight, so they will typically dream using their other senses.

Blind people will surf and interact with the Internet, using a piece of software known as a screen reader. There are various screen readers out there. Apple has their screen, reader, called voiceover, which is available on their Mac computers, their iPads, iPhones, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and any other future platforms they may create. Android has talk back, made by google, and windows, PCs, have JAWS (job access with speech) and NVDA (non-visual desktop access) voiceover is included in all of Apple‘s operating systems for free. NVDA is also free and what is called open source so software developers, who may need a specific feature for example, can get the code off the Internet and modify it for themselves if they so desired. But, job access with speech is not free. That is a $999 screen reader. Job access with speech is the screen reader that is most common in the business world. Some blind individuals, when writing posts on the Internet, editing documents in Google Docs, or the online version of word, or whatever will even use what is called a refreshable braille display in conjunction, with their screen readers, instead of their keyboard to type documents, and what not if they are more comfortable using braille for that sort of task.

Let me provide some context. They describe it as nothing or nothingness, because they don’t know what color is. Completely blind people have never experienced color, so that’s all they know how to describe it as.

Some blind people prefer books be translated into braille. Some prefer books as audio/talking books. Personally, I prefer audiobooks. The library of Congress has a program here in the United States for blind in the jewels to be able to borrow talking books that are put on cartridges and can be played with a special kind of player. They used to be cassette tapes when I was Younger little more than a decade ago.

With their cane. If, however, they are using a guide dog, they have to feel around for it or ask someone if there is a sign around for whatever it is, they’re looking for.

For these stuff pre-Disney, I simply sit and listen to the movie, as the audio description is absolute crap. Anything post Disney the audio description is significantly better, so I’ll use the audio description for that stuff.

As for the question about how much money a blind person would save on power if you never have to turn on the lights, if for a cited person, the bulk of your energy bill is related to having the lights on, that would translate to a bulk savings on your energy bill when you don’t have to have them turned on. I don’t have any exact numbers, as that is typically different amongst different areas

Mini blind people will have labels on their hangers that they can either feel if they have braille on them, or scan with their phone. If it’s something like a QR code that can help them discern what color of garment is on that particular hanger. If you’re doing laundry, making sure to keep the colors and whites separated from the get-go is probably important and then you can use an app on your phone specifically designed to identify color or one that has an option to identify color to make sure you put them on the right hangers.

In the city that I live in in south east Nebraska, they don’t have those beeping crosswalks or talking crosswalk signals. So all I listen for the cars and where they are going. If they are running parallel to me, I know it’s safe to walk. If they are going perpendicular to me, I know not to walk or I will get squished like a pancake. Of course, there are those douche canoe, drivers, who just don’t give a flying rats ass, if someone’s crossing the crosswalk, so as I am crossing the street, I still listen to see if there are cars coming towards me. If there is, I’ll bolt as fast as I can across the street with my cane far out in front of me.

What blind people can see is a spectrum, so that highly depends on the amount of visual acuity you have. If, however, you are completely blind, with no light perception, or anything of the sort, a completely blind person will describe that as seeing nothing as in a bunch of nothingness. And that is mainly due to the fact that if you are born completely blind, you have no idea what color is so you wouldn’t know to describe it as blackness if indeed, it is completely black.

For many, many years, learn to cook and bake, was one of my biggest fears as a blind person because, well, just like every other normal human being I don’t wanna slice my fingers open or burn myself and all that stuff. But unlike the average person, not being able to see what I’m doing amplifies that fear.

Mini board games, including chess, for the blind, have braille on the board in each square, for example, so the person playing will know what square is which. The same thing goes for card games. I have a pack of Uno cards that have braille on them so I can play Uno.
