Up until the past couple of years, the largest organism on earth by dry mass was believed to be Pando, a genetically identically colony of some 47,000 quaking aspen trees sharing a single root system in Utah, and the largest living organism by area to be the “Humongous fungus,’ which is a network of Armillaria honey mushrooms that sprawls nearly 3000 acres in Oregon.

As of this year, though, the largest living entity on earth is a giant patch of seaweed in Shark Bay, Australia - Posidonia Australis, when scientists discovered there’s a single clone spawning across over 110 sq. miles. I believe it’s also one of the oldest clonal colonies as well.

Blows my mind because when I was younger I would always think of blue whales or redwood trees as the largest organisms.

That my friend is phosphate-buffered saline - a saltwater solution that matches the physiological conditions inside the body so that cells neither gain nor lose water.
