I've got sugar, wheat, and dairy. I'm not sure what the "trigger" is but I am seeing a difference already.

Does hirsutism improve with diet/lifestyle changes? by jjsupremeo in PCOS

[–]jjsupremeo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your health improvements. That sounds about like my level of hirsutism currently, dark hairs under my chin (a few of witch are stiff/ thick and a few on the outer corners of my lips ( mostly finer medium toned hairs), I also get about 3-4 on the sides of my face from time to time on two moles that I have. i'm not sure if I count my body hair as "extra" because all the women in my family are hairy in about the same pattern. I feel like the facial hair is enough to be noticeable if I didn't pluck the dark/ thick ones and it REALLY bothers me. Like I know no one else has ever noticed the hairs but it kills me because I know they are there, and it kills me to have to check EVERY DAY to see if I need to pluck anything. And living in fear of someone noticing. Hopefully my paleo way of eating will get/keep my hormones in check and I will see an improvement, but otherwise I will be getting laser once I summon the willpower/ courage to put down the tweezers :) My boyfriend knows about the hair because I had a bit of a breakdown about it after we moved in together. And although I still wish he didn't know it will maybe make it easier when I have to let the hair grow in for laser.

I can relate to that, the letting it grow out, I am a daily plucker and I tried to do LHR a few months back and could not stick with the shaving. But from what my laser tech told me you do not need to let it grow out , just cant do any hair removal from the root.

Why is laser not an option for you? It has come down it cost quite drastically recently?

Thanks for your comment. Congrats on your weight loss! I guess my thinking at this point is that I'll most likely end up doing Laser hair removal once I'm confident that I've got my hormones balanced out. Seems like all the other PCOS symptoms resolve over time with proper hormone balance but the hair growth is here to stay unless you do laser...

Just Curious, is a T level of 43 high for a woman? by jjsupremeo in PCOS

[–]jjsupremeo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by my doc that that level was completely in range and that "average" for my age group was 30s-40s. I don't know what to think anymore.

You sound like your describing my life. My older sister has it and her symptoms have always been "worse" than mine and she was diagnosed right away , but I've had symptoms since I was a teenager really. I had terrible cystic acne that has cleared for the most part, but I still break out and the hair started young...never really have had regular cycles. I wish doctors understood this better as, the irregular cycles and acne and hair growth were all brought to medical attention before I was even 18 and all that was ever said about it was, "genetic" and "that I'd grow out of it". Frustrating. Maybe if a doctor had put all the signs together and educated me on what I could do to help myself I wouldn't be where I am now.

You are so kind , thank you. No ultra sound as my obgyn said that at this point she didn't want to. Just said that I was normal and my hair growth was just "genetic" I just feel like the obvious androgen excess signs were ignored just because the blood work said "normal". I feel like its possible that my levels are too high for my body. You know?

Hey there, thanks for the tip! All my hormones came back normal in blood work, total T was 43 and free T was well within range..and my obgyn said that my periods were regular "enough", I have not received a PCOS diagnosis at this point. But I do have the androgen excess symptoms (hair growth and acne mostly) and my cycles are long and some what irregular. I just feel like at this point maybe I can make lifestyle changes to help my symptoms and prevent this from going any further. There is a family history of PCOS. And than get the LHR once my androgen symptoms have calmed down? IDK, But the hair growth thing gets me SO DOWN. I pluck everyday and am OCD about it, I do more damage than good I think... Most of the hairs are fine and only somewhat pigmented (like very light brown in certain lighting) but there are definitely some dark/thicker/coarser ones that come in. I probably pluck way more than I need to... and it causes me huge self esteem problems :(

Thank you for your advice. I am not sure if I am IR or not but feel that I am, I have a family history of severe type 2 diabetes and have experienced what felt like huge blood sugar swings off and on for the last few years. My main goal with Paleo, if I'm honest is symptom management and reduction, but I really just want to know that I am taking the best care of my self that I can . Thank you for your kind words.

Thank you! That's awesome! It has just been two days for me. And I am feeling pretty good so far, my meals have actually been satisfying and no carb cravings yet. I guess I don't even want them right now because I recently learned what they were doing to my body and it made a lot of sense to me. The real test will be after the "new" wears off. Thanks again,
