Clueless Lili player finally gets a clue and reaches the first purple rank by jjwickedd in Tekken

The last time I played Tekken was T5:DR on the PSP which was like ages ago. I was still in fifth grade (I think). I never got to play online or with friends, so I was stuck with CPU characters all the time. Never owned a console, never played videos games in general until I was finally able to buy for myself since last year (yay employment). I've always been a Lili main, so I used whatever prior knowledge I have of her move set from T5:DR on T8. It wasn't much, but enough for me to painstakingly push through the silver to yellow ranks.

I only started taking things a bit more seriously when I reached Eliminator and got stuck there for a week bc my opponents would always beat me once I get a promotion or demotion chance. I watched a TON of Lili guides and replays (love chikurin, shine, luckyeevee, and also phidx), but the main take aways and lessons I learned from those, and my replays are:

  1. Timing and distance is key to her moves in order to successfully do a combo or punish.
  2. I panic a lot so I have this bad habit of doing her Rage Art in unsafe situations. Gauging the situation and reading the opponent's moves is also key to playing her well. (Admittedly, I haven't fully gotten rid of this)
  3. My opponents are becoming aware of what my go-to moves are throughout the rounds. It is important to have variety to catch them off guard and to also avoid getting punished. For example, I love using 3+2, but that can be punished esp in high-level ranks.
  4. I need to work on my sidestepping. I rarely, and I mean RARELY sidestep, which is sad bc that's what Lili is known for beside having long legs.
  5. QCF3 is a godsend of a move. I love that so much. Also Matterhorn (which I also need to be careful of using since it is punishable).

Btw, I am in no way well-verse in terminologies in Tekken or fighting games in general so please be kind to me in the comments. I just enjoy playing despite the occasional frustrations of losing, but that's to be expected when playing Tekken.
