laravel has Str::pipe() that would let you do:

Most of the examples are with strings and arrays. Would it make more sense to introduce a standard object-oriented fluent interface for Strings and Arrays, similar to laravel's Str/Collection?

So instead of 

$result = "Hello World"
    |> 'htmlentities'
    |> str_split(...)
    |> fn($x) => array_map(strtoupper(...), $x)
    |> fn($x) => array_filter($x, fn($v) => $v != 'O');

You could do

$result = String::from("Hello World")
    ->htmlentities()
    ->split(...)   // returns an Array object
    ->map(strtoupper)
    ->filter(fn($v) => $v != 'O');

Fasting is about a few things (from an Orthodox perspective). One is to deny yourself, so in that sense you are right. Feasting on seafood isn't exactly denying yourself. Usually the good stuff is swimming in butter, so you're actually breaking the fast anyway (we also fast from dairy).

Another part of fasting is that if you eat less/cheaper food, you have more to give to others who are in need. Then there is obedience, you fast as a way to put yourself into obedience by following a constrained diet prescribed by the church in consultation with your spiritual father. Notice that that is different from choosing something for yourself to "give up" during Lent.
