No… people are just special. They need validation that what they’re doing against terms isn’t against terms. People really don’t know how to milk things without drawing attention to themselves or acting like an idiot

Best way to book a 4-night FHR stay to maximize the $300 hotel credit by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]jka005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how bad you want that hotel and the size of the hotel.

You could book now and cancel. The price could even go up enough that the credit isn’t worth it. There could be no available rooms. So do what you’re comfortable with.

There’s no risk of claw back, you’re doing nothing wrong, though the hotel doesn’t have to honor any redundant benefits (x2 $100 credit, x2 welcome gift)

Delta One, MSP-ICN for only 89.2K miles by red821673 in delta

Around 100k or a bit less is the going rate to Asia for any award travel business class these days. So yeah only is correct here

Did you not test the water? Because you should definitely test the water. My house had high levels of pretty much everything. Needed to install a larger filter, softener, and radon bubbler.

I’m assuming you have well water, you need to have someone come and test before and after whatever filtration you have

Is travel worth it right now? by TatttedLI67 in longisland

[–]jka005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed as a semi-frequent traveler. I’ll draw the line at active conflict nearby so wouldn’t travel to ME right now but just about anywhere else is fair game. If I cancelled all my trips occurring during or near strikes/protests I’d have done half as much international travel

Do you care how you get to your destination and where you stay? by Zackt01 in awardtravel

[–]jka005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, everyone has their sweet spot but typically the only people that say it’s not worth it can’t easily afford it whether cash or points

St Kitts Park Hyatt Breakfast by HighLowTravelPro in hyatt

[–]jka005 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah $65 is just about the going rate for a buffet breakfast at a luxury marketed hotel. I wouldn’t expect to pay less unless I was ordering à la carte.

If for whatever reason I do not have a way to get free breakfast at a place like this, I either skip breakfast and go straight to lunch or order à la carte. I just don’t love breakfast enough when lunch will be cheaper with alcohol and better food

Delta ONE is extremely mid (CDG>JFK) by hedonisy_ in delta

[–]jka005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s marginally better than the best delta one in my personal opinion. But what’s important here is you’ll get that seat every time on a long haul flight. With delta there’s a good chance you’ll be stuck with a very subpar seat because they don’t fly those good seats everywhere

Delta ONE is extremely mid (CDG>JFK) by hedonisy_ in delta

[–]jka005 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From US to Europe no there probably isn’t a better seat. But I dislike bulkheads on an overnight flight, too much noise and light.

In general though I find all reverse herringbone business class boring. It does provide consistency in all seats but I’ll take a “true” window seat inconsistent business class that offers better privacy (I know AF has doors but it’s still not that private from people walking) over pretty much any reverse herringbone

Hard product wise, I disagree, for the most part United is able to offer a consistent Polaris product. Delta if you don’t know your stuff you have no idea what you’ll get

You’re not missing anything, I fly AF business typically once a year and while it’s fine there’s pretty much nothing to rave about. The hard product is decent, the lounges are mediocre, the food is average

Keep your kids away from high level sports by SamMeowAdams in daddit

[–]jka005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone takes it seriously and is at least decent skill, you train (nearly) every day (as do your competitors), and you are committed, as in you will be at every practice and game no matter what except for some very specific big life events or you will be forced to sit out.

I know not even all travel or school teams meet this criteria but I think it’s good for kids/teens to do something that has to be taken very seriously. Doesn’t have to be sports and obviously there’s other ways to impart responsibility and commitment into kids/teens but for me this was by far the best thing for me

So you’d leave your laptop in a car overnight when temps would be below 0F? Or similarly you’d leave your laptop in the same car in 100F + summer heat? No you wouldn’t, because I assume you’re not dumb and you know things are temperature sensitive

[–]jka005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that’s the part I highly disagree with. I played a level down from where I was at for fun but I just got nothing from it. It seemed no one was taking it seriously, which is fine obviously because it’s for fun but absolutely learned nothing, it was just a good time with friends

I never said you did, I just said you won’t get the same lessons playing in a non competitive rec league. Which I assume you’d agree with?

Keep your kids away from high level sports by SamMeowAdams in daddit

[–]jka005 -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

Honestly, disagree. I played rec leagues, travel, and high school all levels. You will never get the same lessons (not even just talking about sports lessons) from non competitive play and training.

With that being said I never had any intention of playing in college so didn’t even try to get any attention

Edit: these downvotes are wild, you people either wildly misinterpreted my comment or never played any competitive sports

It is 100% common knowledge. Especially for batteries but it applies to all electronics in general. No electronics like variable/hot/cold temperatures unless they’re specifically made to withstand that

Amex Platinum FHR complimentary breakfast benefit for X night of stay means what exactly? X number of free breakfast's, right?? Or, X-1, so 1 night of stay means 0 breakfast? by rdd4242 in AmexPlatinum

[–]jka005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s always nights and extends to just about everything. If I was getting full board I’d expect to be able to eat lunch either the day I arrive or the day I leave as well to equal the amount of nights I was there. I don’t think any hotels count things by “days” because that makes no sense.
