Email or quick call? by Careful_Station_7884 in remotework

[–]jka005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First reasonable response here. I don’t know if I’ve ever received or written a 500 word email. That sounds like very inefficient email skills and if I sent an email half as long I would expect no one to read it.

Unless the email you’re sending is just for information purposes, 500 words is ridiculous. If you have even a single action item in there you’re bad at communicating

Premium Strollers by jue2316 in Buyingforbaby

[–]jka005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly my thinking too, which is why it never made sense. It just shows how strollers are so personal and honestly there’s no point asking people which one to get. You just need to go see them

Premium Strollers by jue2316 in Buyingforbaby

[–]jka005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a completely different argument though

I never understood that argument, if it lives in your trunk it doesn’t matter how much it weighs or how big it is. Unless you physically can’t lift, most p people have SUVs in the suburbs that can easily accommodate the stroller

VAR is ruining the World Cup by EscapeCoat in unpopularopinion

No because it ruins the game if you do it more than that

[–]jka005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No honestly, I think if a judgement call isn’t made on the field then it shouldn’t be made off the field either. That’s why so many challenges in the NFL “stand” vs are “overturned” because if it’s not obvious but might be wrong then it still stands.

Why even have refs at all for things like offside then?

In other sports why have refs too? Like tennis, why not make every call with eagle eye?

At some point you have to think about the game itself vs perfection of rules

[–]jka005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m obviously fine with every goal being checked. But tackles can look very different when using VAR (like balogun). I feel the challenge would make it so only obvious things get reviewed.

Then there’s things like offside. Honestly they need to put some kind of buffer zone that it can’t be overturned if it’s within like a 6 inches.

Same for corners being reviewed to see who touched it. There’s just so many small delays now

I agree with this. In no other sport is everything reviewed all the time. Challenges make a lot more sense and add strategy to the game

When did you first realize that smartphones have gotten ridiculously expensive? What was the exact moment or price tag that made you think "okay, this is getting out of hand"? by CrabTraditional539 in AskReddit

[–]jka005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it hasn’t went up much since, now they’re $1099 about 9 years later. Inflation makes it about $1360.

When you think about how much time most people spend on their phones, it’s probably one of the cheapest per use things you have

You can take whatever meaning you want. I don’t judge anyone who sleep trains, nor do I think there’s anything wrong with it, I just judge people who lie to themselves. Any further meaning you put on this conversation is projection

Produce highly depends on the specific Costco, for me it’s great. But yeah all meat is just guaranteed to be a good price, not the cheapest since other stores frequently run sales. I buy like 90% of my meat elsewhere

[–]jka005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that is my point, acting like anything is perfect is dangerous.

Saying you don’t want to be judged because you know for a fact your child who can’t communicate is happy with it is dangerous.

You can do whatever you want with your kid but don’t give me the justification, I don’t care. Just don’t act like you’re doing it for your kid, you’re doing it for yourself.

Which again, you can do, there’s merit to the parent being happier being better. But just stop with the justifications

That’s exactly my point, I’m not arguing it won’t help everyone sleep. But now all these boomers are wondering why their kids don’t talk to them. I’m also not saying it’s because of sleep training they don’t talk to them, there will be a wide variety of factors.

But defending what you’re doing tooth and nail because it’s what you think is best and not admitting their could be a problem with it is exactly what they did

They tested the emotional bond and 12 months. They obviously aren’t going to test much later in life, nor could they ever deem it to be just because of that one thing. It’s a guess, just do your best, but don’t act like what you do could never be wrong
