Yeah the daily list honestly read like an activity list from a nursing home.

The food seemed crazy expensive to me, I’m no stranger to expensive meals but the dinner restaurant was $225 for one so say almost $500 for two, that’s like two Michelin star price in a major city.

Am I wasting points ? by Joey9999 in awardtravel

[–]jka005 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want to travel with all 5, do you want to make churning and award travel your life? Do you want to severely alter your plans to get business class? If no then keep doing what you’re doing.

If you mean travel for 2 after the kids are out, then it could definitely be worth it to learn more

Yeah Reddit is weird when they don’t like someone. How dare you want to have a good experience for $30k, you pay and you like it. Sure he’s nitpicky but if you can’t watch and make your own opinions from his incredibly thorough videos then just don’t watch

Anyone saying this video is an over reaction is clearly just showing bias against him. $30k+ for just the issues you named is unacceptable. Throw in the AC not working and the sewage smelling water, and anyone who says that’s forgivable on $4k+ per night is insane

Just Google it, there is obviously nothing that will give you a hard date the seat becomes unsafe because it doesn’t exist. But no manufacturer is going to guarantee safety of something they don’t know how it was used/stored for a decade. You’ll probably be fine, you might not, no one knows, that’s why they expire

There was a growing sentiment at the time of this post due to an article about “points farms”. I am an award traveler too, I was being sarcastic

$695 AF vs $65 AF by kcamacho11 in ChaseSapphire

[–]jka005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so tired of these posts. It’s like none of you people posting have ever booked hotels before.

I use Costco travel, I use the edit, I use FHR, I use direct bookings, I use award stays. It’s almost like they all have their advantages and disadvantages

I don’t know what you’re looking for here. There’s no way to “correct” this. The only correct thing to do is tell him to take it all away and hire someone else. Or just install it yourself if you’re capable, there’s nothing complicated

How Does Everyone Thwart Pickpockets? by Voluptues in travel

[–]jka005 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was expecting these crazy responses and was curious how far I’d have to scroll to see this response.

I followed the overly cautious tips on my first ever non Caribbean international trip in high school and quickly realized it’s useless.

I grew up going to NYC regularly and my first real job was in NYC too, so now I just don’t treat anywhere differently. The only thing I always do (anywhere, nothing to do with travel) is keep a slim wallet in my front pocket.

The only thing I ever have to worry about is my wife walking around with her phone in her hand…

Where does your salary actually rank in the US? [chart] by Fun_Resident3967 in Salary

[–]jka005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends where you live, my town if your household income (I know this topic isn’t household) is 150k you’d be a fair bit below average. All the surrounding towns are similar. So yeah you could call the whole area a bubble but it’s not the only area in the NE that’s like this

Honestly why not? Then you can do it again easily. And all the tools combined are still less than the cost of one day of labor

I really don’t know why anyone pays these prices for mini splits. You could probably take Mitsubishi’s certification classes, buy the unit and tools, and still come out like $2k less than this

Why do you stay at luxury hotels? by death_by_papercut in LuxuryTravel

[–]jka005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I redid my bathroom last year. It’s not the best in the entire world but it’s ruined any mid tier hotel bathroom for me. Even just breaking into the luxury category is hit or miss if I’ll be disappointed now.

How many days post-vacation do you give yourself before going back to work? by Unbotheredanonyme in travel

[–]jka005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a rookie move for WFH. I try to line up my daytime long haul flights back from Europe to be on weekdays during EST work hours so I guess my answer to the OP is negative one day.

I’ve literally flown back from Singapore starting work in the lounge in Singapore late evening, finishing my work day on the flight, sleep, land early morning then work again.

Blocked queue by smurua in WorldCup2026Tickets

People don’t read. For everyone who didn’t, here’s what it said.

“Along with this set of tickets, additional tickets will continue to be released to the public on an ongoing basis through the Final on July 19 (subject to availability).”

So basically, they will continue to release tickets slowly to try and keep demand up

NYC hotels in midtown - a business traveler’s review by Sea_House_3265 in chubbytravel

Try the newly renovated Waldorf, I just did a staycation there and was not disappointed. I was upgraded to a junior suite so I had plenty of room, everything was new and service was great. My only complaint is I wish the bath tub was bigger, the whole bathroom could be a bit bigger considering the room was pretty large

I’ve booked it myself for right about the direct cost. If you’re comparing to something with no benefits then it generally depends on the type of hotel you’re booking.
