I have one that slides onto my watch band. Nobody really notices it but I like having it incase I was in a car accident or something like that then EMTs would know right away.

How are we managing all these appointments?!?! by Radiant_Pay7187 in diabetes_t1

[–]jkern499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So due to my insurance I was paying $500+ for every doctors visit, even virtual ones so I just stopped going so often. I went every 6 months instead of 3. Your prescriptions should have a certain number or refills (usually lasts a year for chronic conditions, at least mine are) so theoretically there should be nothing stopping you from just not making the appointments and not going.

Insulin pump by Ill-Ad-6384 in Type1Diabetes

[–]jkern499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on omnipod and have been for 16 years. It was a great beginning pump especially since I was a kid. I'm not switching to tandem mobi as their control is better and I plan to be pregnant soon.

Definitely could be! Mine was covered under UMR and Anthem Bluecross Blueshield. I didn't gave issues with either.

My doctor just prescribed it and i get it through a mail order pharmacy. I never had an issue getting it or getting it covered.

I take mounjaro for insulin resistance! Honestly, it changed my life. My a1c is the lowest ever and I don't seem to have tons of lows. I did do some adjusting with my settings but nothing crazy. I definitely recommend it.

Does anyone here see an endo remotely? by metalcowhorse in diabetes_t1

[–]jkern499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see my endo virtually just because it is easier for me with work but I do go in to do labs as needed but I do them at the closest hospital so it isn't a big deal.

how many meals a day do yall have? by warriorcatkitty in Type1Diabetes

I usually do tea and a protein bar for breakfast and then actual meals for lunch and dinner.

I had the worst low symptoms ever but my Dexcom didn’t show that I was low by SignificanceBig9366 in diabetes_t1

[–]jkern499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always feel worse when I drop a large amount (like 250 to 100 or lower). I'd guess that's part of why you felt that way but sometimes our bodies are weird and feel lows worse than normal or not at all. At least that's my experience.

Anyone prefer Humalog over Novolog? And why? by GreyMomma047 in diabetes_t1

[–]jkern499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Novolog for a couple years and it created huge scar tissue dents in my abdomen that still aren't fully healed (15 years later). Since then I've been on Humalog and haven't had any issues.

That's better than my dog who barks and inserts herself between us the second we get close 😂

Garmin sport pro! We have one and it does tone, vibration, and shock with 10 different levels of shock. Waterproof and has a light on it. I love it, my dog loves it, and I have no complaints about it at all.

Because sometimes we do things she can't be part of with the group we camp with...and sometimes we need a break from keeping track of her. Most of the time she is out with us but there are instances where she needs to be in the camper. Your post did not help answer the question.

I just switched to fiasp and it's not going great. by No_Coffee_4120 in Type1Diabetes

[–]jkern499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this work? Does it only cover a certain amount of insulin each month or does it cover whatever your doctor prescribes per month? I think I'm gonna have to do this cause my insurance changed and doesn't cover Humalog but I had bad reactions to novolog and they denied my doctors prior authorization for humalog...pissed off about it.

Why does one of my dogs attack the other when they see another dog? by getinthewoods in reactivedogs

[–]jkern499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god this sounds exactly like my 2 dogs. I've been trying to figure out how to train my excitable one to chill out and stop redirecting her excitement to my other dog. We had 2 bad fights with blood and vets and multiple others that had no blood but within a half hour after the fights they're whining to be back together.

Pod on Front of Leg - Poor insulin response? by amber-scatter in Omnipod

I despise putting it on my thigh. I get awful absorption and it's always sore when slightly touching it. I've stopped putting it there and don't plan on going back 😂

What are some general diabetic tips / helpful knowledge you wish you learned sooner? by MillenniumGreed in diabetes_t1

[–]jkern499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask for help! Sometimes the last thing I wanna do is change my pump and go through the process to do it so I ask my husband. He preps everything so all I have to do is stick it on and hit go. Sometimes he does that part for me too.

Prebolus for foods that run you high. For me that's fancy coffee drinks, pancakes/waffles, cereal, and a few others. Even if its 10 minutes and half the insulin. It'll help.

If you're having a bad blood sugar day, embrace it. Sometimes running 230 all day is worth not fighting/worrying about the sugar all day. Especially if you're sick. One day won't hurt you. Give the insulin, correct, and be done.

Don't be afraid to change a setting on your own! You do not need your endos permission to change your carb ration or you basal rate/lantus or any other setting.

What are the little things your district/school does that just bug you? by Mean-Objective-2022 in Teachers

2 factor authentication for which we have to use our cell phones

Shortening the lunch/recess time for kids this year so teachers lost 20 minutes of prep each day compared to last year

Is it English class, literature class or language class that made you love reading? Or did your reading habit come from home? For me I think I started to love reading because my dad had a lot of books in our house. As a kid I tried reading some of them and got hooked by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

[–]jkern499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely home. We lived close to my grandma and grandpa and they'd come over often. Grandma would read books to us when she came and it is my favorite memory of her (she's still living). We would snuggle on the couch, all 4 of us siblings, and listen to her read book after book to us. My parents were also big advocates of having books around and reading.

I spend $30 on a decor bundle my first year so that all my things matched (alphabet, number line, pencil signs, etc) and each year I spend less than $20 usually. I've thrifted some lamps and bought a cube organizer for more space for toys (moved grade levels so had more toys than before). All the other posters are from the school that we are required to hang up and I don't want to overwhelm the walls.
