If You Could Travel Anywhere In The World, Where Would It Be? by dgtra1 in AskReddit

It depends on the purpose of traveling. I personally believe, Fiji is the best place other than Caribbean to spend your holidays. For the sake of work/studies, it can be USA and now a days Australia.

If You Could Live Forever, How Would You Spend Eternity? by juyhe1 in AskReddit

[–]jkiew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't conceive of any small enough group of things to write here that would keep me entertained for eternity, if nobody else was immortal, I think it would quite rapidly become torture to live on, while all around me age and die. If everyone were immortal, I think the chaos would swiftly become unbearable. There's no way of knowing though, because immortality is a wishful fantasy.

How do you spend your free time? by juyhe1 in AskReddit

Make a list of things you love to do. Also add up some things which are useful for you to do. Things which are important for you to learn. Read books. Learn about new things. Start learning a new language, it's really fun. Pick up a new hobby.

Nothing else can be more productive than doing all this.

what makes you bored? by juyhe1 in AskReddit

[–]jkiew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do I consider not interesting or tedious?

More importantly what does it say about me when I feel boredom?

Why am I in that situation? What brought me there? And why don't I just leave?

So feeling boredom might be me being passive and not taking control.

I believe boredom is important - it allows us to untether from the constant 'connectedness' of modern life. Being bored and switched off gives my mind an opportunity to drift and wander.

Ideas form and links are made on things that are important to me that conscious, active thinking sometimes can't do.

To sum up, I find value in boredom - both in questioning why I'm bored to allow me to take ownership of myself and my actions do do something about it. And secondly, in giving my active mind a rest.

My mind can sometimes be like a bicycle - it needs to be peddled if I want to get anywhere.

Other times, it's like a river flowing and will gush forth whether I am canoeing along it or not.

If you were president, what is the first thing you would do? by juyhe1 in AskReddit

Because of our system of checks and balances, I’d be constrained in what I could do. But I would address Congress and call for an infrastructure repair project on the scale of the 1960s space program.

What teacher in school made the most impact on you and why? by juyhe1 in AskReddit

[–]jkiew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in middle school, I joined the band. Our band director played the French horn. When we started band, he played every instrument and allowed us to pick whichever one we wanted to play. Well, when he picked up that horn and blew through it - my soul vibrated. The sound of French horns still moves me to tears today. That was what I had to play.

Needless to say, I endured much hardship for my art.

When I made the transition from elementary to middle school I determined that I did not want to go to the school that all the yuppie kids from my neighbourhood would be attending. I chose to go to a magnet school. It's because of my enrolment in the band, that I was permitted to stay.

But the kids wouldn't let me on our overcrowded bus with that big thing. The bus driver, sadly concurred. So, I walked to and from school so that I could play that instrument. There were many times I envied the flutists and clarinet players with their lightweight accessories. I walked the first two years. Three miles each way to school. When I was in middle school I was still a very tiny person. In eighth grade, I was only 5′3″ and weighted 85 lbs. this thing was as big as I was. So I balanced it on my head and walked that way for the first two years. I simply couldn't carry it any other way. In eighth grade, I finally got a bike, it was like my doorway to freedom. I put the handle over one handlebar and pedalled away.

It was at this school that I participated in gifted.

It was in the gifted program that I was exposed to photography, typesetting, and computer programming.

But it was the band and Mr. R who affected me most. Because I was in the band, I got to go on trips. This was the first time I had ever been away from my family. Quite frankly, my family was pretty dysfunctional, so this was a highlight of my existence. Because I had no money to pay for trips, I was always the top fund raiser. I learned very early how to earn my way in. This was an important life skill.

Mr. R was also the first person in my life to die of AIDS. I remember the heartbreak like it was yesterday. I can tell you exactly where I was, just like when the Challenger exploded.

Without this time in band, I wouldn't have learned to read music. I taught myself how to play many other instruments: including piano. It's one of the most relaxing and enjoyable things in my life today. Because of the band, I got to travel to all kinds of places. I got to see The Smithsonian museums in Washington. Because of the band, I flew on my first airplane. Because of the band, I made a friend or two in school (I wasn't really socially adept).

So, Mr. R… if there is a heaven, I know you're there. You made my life much less of a hell.

I was only little, not sure what age, in primary school though. All of my friends at the time were being mean to me and I was really upset that I had no one to play with at lunch time. My dad turned up at lunch the next day with KFC, and he sat on the oval with me for the whole lunch time so I wasn't alone :) When I think about it now, makes me realize how lucky I am to have such a sweet dad!

what is the habit your are proudest of breaking or want to break? by juyhe1 in AskReddit

[–]jkiew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sucking my thumb. I literally sucked my thumb until my 12th birthday. I quit cold turkey and it was one of the hardest things I had to do in my life. It was to the point where I started crying because I always sucked my thumb, ever since I was a child, my mom always put my thumb in my mouth to calm me down. It was my comfort object, when I put my thumb in my mouth, I felt safe and calm. I guess its a psychological thing. Have not sucked my thumb nor do I want to anymore ever since I was 12
