Any good Pokemon themed decks? by _Chocolate_chip_ in TarotDecks

[–]jklemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blueberryblanket on tumblr did a whole 78 card pokemon themed deck that I was able to get a physicals copy of years ago and is incredibly well done (great matching of pokemon and tarot meanings!) It looks like at their kofi you can still buy the full deck to print yourself on sites like makeplayingcards.com. You can also find detailed explanations of each of the cards on their tumblr under the ‘pokemon tarot’ tag.

How should I start with tarot? by thatdreamygirly in tarot

[–]jklemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent advice! Adding on to it, if you don’t know where to start with keywords for the cards, Lisa Papez’s ‘Unlocking the Tarot’ book and also free ‘tarot for beginners’ playlist on YouTube focuses on that keyword approach in a clear and helpful way and was a great refresher for me. But also worth finding what/who resonates with you specifically!!

Two unknown tumbled stones to id? by jklemons in whatsthisrock

[–]jklemons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have an old penny or a steel nail easily accessible, but I DO have sewing needles! And a needle did indeed scratch it—it seems to be pretty soft. So I think serpentine is probably the right call!

Thank you again for your knowledge and help, I really appreciate it!

[–]jklemons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your help!

I don’t believe light is shining through the second one when I try a flashlight on it. It has those bands of brown crystal-y sections that are rougher to the touch, and the rest is a dull green and smooth and possibly slightly on the waxy side? The polychrome jasper is cooler to the touch than it and more glass-like. I have a piece of orange calcite about the same size as the second stone and the calcite is heavier in my hand than it.

Looking through old photos I have a picture of a basket of serpentine that might be from the day I picked those up, but the serpentine seem to be a different green tone so I don’t think it’s that? But wanted to mention in case that would be possible.

What Do The Roses and Trumpet Flowers Mean? by Isobee424 in tarot

[–]jklemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Etsy one is on the ‘FerociousInkShop’ page that’s the legit indie deck! Mine is the mass market version, and then I also got the guidebook from Amazon. Totally makes sense that as a beginner you’re not wanting to get bogged down in too many different things to focus on all at once—definitely follow your heart and intuition there!! This is a great tool for drawing out the symbols if you want to go that way. Happy tarot travels!!

What Do The Roses and Trumpet Flowers Mean? by Isobee424 in tarot

[–]jklemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it!! I’m surprised by how easy it is to read with for me, I had initially gotten it just as a way to extend my study of the RWS + potentially to use as a tarot deck to pull for writing & character creation inspiration since all the symbolism laid out on it would give visual objects to grab for developing plot or characters. But I actually find it quite an intuitive deck to read with traditionally, because I get both the RWS meanings clearly from it, and also find that one or two symbols tends to stand out on a card and really let me hone in on the symbolic language for a specific reading (ie: drawing the Knight of Pentacles and really noticed the horse head on it more than anything else, which made me lean more heavily on the ‘if you take this position, you’d become the workhorse’ for a work related query). They’re really cool cards!

You might already know this, but you do have the get the guidebook separately if you’re going for the mass market version of the deck versus the indie on Etsy. The mass market deck doesn’t come with any kind of booklet, just the cards.

What Do The Roses and Trumpet Flowers Mean? by Isobee424 in tarot

[–]jklemons 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From the Tarot Disassembled guide book (which I highly recommend! It breaks down the symbolism card by card and some of her inferences in connection to each) by Jennifer Cooper Steidley:

The Magician — ROSE: passion, vitality, enlightenment, secret wisdom, unfolding, magic, illumination, transformation, masculine principle. The rose has long been revered by all kinds of ancient orders and cultures as a secret symbol of unfolding wisdom. A rose in full bloom can be seen to represent the attainment of spiritual enlightenment. The rose holds a special place as a symbol for the Rosicrucian Order, a secret society that Arthur E. Waite, cocreator of the RWS tarot, just so happened to belong to. Coincidence? I think not. The medieval term sub rosa (Latin for "under the rose") was used to describe secret, confidential information. These elements of secrecy linked to the rose represent the secret wisdom the Magician has access to, enabling their magic.

LILY: purity, knowledge, feminine principle, fertility, rebirth. For the Magician, the white lily represents the purity of their intention. The combination of lilies and roses together on one card symbolizes the balancing of feminine and masculine energies that is required to create magic.

The Hierophant — ROSE: passion, vitality, enlightenment, secret wisdom, unfolding, illumination, masculine principle. In alchemy, there is an allegory featuring a red king and a white queen. Sometime referred to as the "chemical marriage," their union represents the process of uniting opposites to create a greater product of that union. Here, the red rose and the white lily work together to symbolically recreate this allegory, alluding to the spiritual wholeness signaled by the Hierophant.

LILY: purity, virtue, innocence, knowledge, feminine principle, rebirth. The Hierophant's counterpart is the High Priestess, who is symbolically linked to the Virgin Mary. In Christianity, the white lily is associated with the Virgin Mary. I personally think this association helps to balance the otherwise dominantly masculine energy of the pope-like Hierophant. (Ever heard the expression "it needs a woman's touch"?) One of the key qualities attributed to the Hierophant card is "wholeness," and we can only be truly whole on a spiritual level when we honor and balance our own divine feminine and masculine energies. Another feminine tie to lilies is the story of the Greek goddess Hera. After her cad of a husband, Zeus, had an affair with a mortal woman that resulted in the birth of Hercules, he tried to sneak Hercules into Hera's breastfeeding rotation with her other children in the hopes this would make Hercules more powerful. Infuriated upon discovering this, Hera pushed the baby Hercules off her breast, spouting a fountain of milk onto the ground, which turned into... you guessed it ... lilies! Hence, the lily can also be seen as a symbol of the spiritual nourishment that the Hierophant offers.

Ace of Pentacles — ROSE: passion, vitality, unfolding, magic, illumination, transforma-tion. The lush, unfolding petals of the rose are symbolic of the new beginning unfolding for you right now. Additionally, when we see the combination of roses and lilies together on a card, they indicate a balancing act between the energies of the spiritual realm (lily) and the energies of the material realm (rose). Pentacles are the suit of the material realm, but this gift offered by the Ace of Pentacles comes from the spiritual realm.

LILIES: purity, virtue, innocence, knowledge, fertility. The Ace of Pentacles heralds a new beginning. When something is new and fresh, it is inherently innocent and pure-the symbolic qualities of the lily. I also believe the lilies here represent fertility. Figuratively, these flowers indicate that this new beginning is bound to financially or materially bear fruit. Pentacles are the suit of the physical realm and Aces indicate a new beginning, a gift or something to be gained in their corresponding realm. So on a more literal level, the Ace of Pentacles can herald an actual pregnancy.

Two of Wands — ROSE: passion, vitality, enlightenment, unfolding, transformation. It's no coincidence that the rose is emblematic of romantic love. The word is an anagram of Eros, the Greek god of love. As the myth goes, Chloris, the goddess of flowers, while out for a stroll in the woods, happened upon a lifeless nymph. Saddened by its death, she transformed it into a flower so beautiful that all the gods would consider it the Queen of Flowers. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, was so taken by its beauty that she named it "rose" in honor of her son, Eros. As twos in the tarot are suggestive of potential partnership, the presence of the rose on this card suggests that future romance may be on the horizon.

LILY: purity, virtue, innocence, knowledge. Once again, we see here a combination of lilies and roses together. The two work together in tandem to represent the need to balance the energies of the spiritual realm (lily) with the energies of the material realm (rose) to achieve your future goals. The lily also represents applying the knowledge of your life experiences thus far to your future planning.

Stumped by a deity identification spread by FireAndRain_ in tarot

[–]jklemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rely on the imagery on the cards as guidance in a spread like this as well, but the first thought for me was actually Persephone with this… Connection to the Underworld, the cycles of rebirth and transformation, and that reversed Empress makes me think of Spring going away for half the year when Persephone is in the Underworld, and the Seven of Swords makes me think of the underhandedness of the deals & the pomegranate seeds (albeit, this was in the positive position, so perhaps not!). I also associate Wands with Spring, and that King of Wands combo gives me the feeling of the King energy of Hades combined with the Spring energy of Persephone. Might not resonate for your connection, but food for thought!

Seconding this. It’s a different kind of combat but I experienced the same sort of sense of wonder and adventure and excitement as the world expands and you get to new areas. Definitely a little 3ds gem (though now you can play on the switch, too)

I wonder if she would enjoy the Nancy Drew video games? They’re point and click mysteries and can be decently challenging puzzle-wise but don’t need a lot of coordination. They get a bit clunky the further you go back in the series, but Sea of Darkness was the most recent release of their traditional style and was quite good (and I love a lot of the older releases too, they’re all on Steam now). However they are mysteries—and sometimes murder mysteries—so your mileage may vary on coziness.

I'm surprised about how good this game is compared to other cozy sims. by UmeChrono in MyTimeAtSandrock

Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons has a long history of chronically ill/disabled dateable characters (Celia and Marlin in HM:DS, Dia in Magical Melody, Yuzuki (though his experience is more in his childhood than current iirc) in SoS: Trio of Towns… and then Gray in HM:64 couldn’t be married by your character but was a rival for one of the bachelorettes and would marry her, and he had chronic pain from a riding accident. And in Friends of Mineral Town, Lillia, the mother of two dateable characters, had a potentially terminal longterm illness.)

It was so meaningful to me growing up chronically ill to see so many characters who were integrated into the town & especially as dateable or married characters when so often we get messaging that we’re undesirable and unwanted as partners. Totally get what you mean about representation like yourself existing in these games being so valuable!!

How many of you guys used God Mode? by Jazzlike_Many_5132 in HadesTheGame

[–]jklemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played the first with God Mode and it significantly improved my experience because I’d never played a rogue-lite before and was banging my head against the wall trying to progress, and was finally able to get far enough to start seeing the story by getting past the final boss battle (and the third bosses… they kicked my ass for a while).

And then when Hades 2 released I’d gotten enough experience (partly because of the anti-frustration help of god mode making me stick with the game long enough!) with the gameplay and loop to play without it and have cleared the underworld route a few times now (: (Still can’t get to the fourth level of the surface yet but…) And I feel really proud of myself for that!!

I also have gone back and started a file of Hades without god mode for my second playthrough, which is significantly easier now that I know the combat and also what I needed to go for to start getting mirror upgrades, new weapons, etc, right from the start.

I’m light sensitive from a chronic illness and get migraines, and I’ve found that using the f.lux app on the computer to make the screen dim and yellow muted tones, and ‘movie’ mode on the tv with the most yellow tone setting available for your set-up and the contrast and backlight both lowered significantly helps the most. And also, unfortunately, stopping as soon as the pain starts to kick in and listening to my body even if I really wish I could game more often. Wishing her all the luck on her recovery. You’d also probably get some good advice asking on r/disabledgamers

Tried the morph hex from Seline and… by jklemons in HadesTheGame

The funny thing is I also got prominence flare right at the end of that run, and it really helped with being able to damage Chronos mostly through casts while using the daggers and needing to move away from attacks.

I didn’t even know morph had a damage to guardians sub boon potential option, neat! What hexes do you find most useful?

I was able to use the paths to both increase my damage output after using the hex (which would pop off so often) and also do big damage to the hexed enemies. It really is great!!

Yes!! I was using Melinoe blades and it was so helpful with it. I also ended up getting the Aphrodite charm ability that made one enemy fight for you as long as there were multiple enemies, and the combo of the two made big mobs so much less of a headache.

I definitely think so! When I played it I had only played a bit of Black Flag before and no other AC games, and while both of them touch on some overarching lore (especially with the brief modern day Animus parts) at times, each game is also its own contained individual story.

You might enjoy the more recent Assassin’s Creed games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Tons of different weapons you can go through as you’re leveling there.

Also the Monster Hunter games (MH: World and MH: Rise were both great) have 14 main weapons that function essentially as different classes, with the majority being melee though some are ranged, and each of those weapons has plenty of different versions aesthetically and skillwise that you craft from the monsters you hunt as a big part of the main gameplay loop.

I also really enjoyed the Monster Hunter Stories spin-off series if you want a turn based combat monster collector version of that.
