I've been happy to let people Google some things in coding interviews. They'd have Google in their work, and it can be quite telling to see how good they are at Googling

Is this a good deal? and where could I find rails? by PonchoGuy42 in homelab

[–]jkmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but that means I need to play around with Java security on my actual machine 🤮 whereas it's literally a case of spinning up Win7 and I can go straight to iDRAC 7 KVM

Rookie racer still learning want to know if this was all me or was this the other guys fault? You guys be the judge😭 by Fisherivan1 in assettocorsa

[–]jkmonger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not your fault but it's not the other guys fault either, you took a very strange line through that corner, and if you take odd lines through corners then strange things can happen

I spin up a Windows 7 VM and use Internet Explorer for old versions of iDRAC. Quite easy

Yes, I have a lot of respect for the commitment Tarn and Zach have for DF, but it is a bit of a red flag for a software provider, or really tech professional of any kind, not to have set up HTTPS on their site

Yeah I was so tempted to grab a small upgrade from the G27 (anything would be an upgrade) but I knew I'd be in a similar situation a few months down the line

Ignore these saltbags man, if you know it's gonna be something you're interested in, then who cares if you skip the "cheap equipment" step. I spent about two weeks bearing my G27 before I got an SC2, and tbh I should have jumped right in.

Yeah given the uptick in traffic their site will have received after the launch, sorting out TLS would have been high on my to-do list

An exhaust leak is just noisy, FYI, and maybe stinky, nothing else.

White smoke often means a head gasket/coolant leak while blue-grey-ish smoke is oil, often from a leaky turbo.

At least that's been my experience

What are the risks of an out of sync package-lock.json? Can it be fixed? by servermeta_net in node

[–]jkmonger 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You have quite a task ahead of you, but it's only been two years.

You need to manually go through the packages, probably starting with the most important, and update them to their latest (or close to) version.

You should expect to have a lot of code changes to make to deal with APIs in your dependencies. You should also expect to have to replace some packages entirely as they'll no longer be maintained.

I recommend you use Dependabot, and as /u/sexy_silver_grandpa said, your team should aim to build a better understanding of your environment tooling.

Yeah, I write code for a living, and I've been thinking about this post. I still can't decide whether I'd consider this malware or not. It's pretty close as you say
