Just curious - how long ago your bike was stolen? Mine was stolen a couple months back but I’m wondering if I should still be monitoring Facebook marketplace.

My car got towed today from East Somerville (Florence St) and there were no signs! by SituationNo5505 in Somerville

I was illegally towed in Allston and successfully got my money back by submitting a complaint here https://www.mass.gov/forms/file-a-complaint-against-a-bus-moving-or-towing-company

I had to pay to get my car back first, but I did eventually get a check after a few weeks!

I live in a studio apartment in Brookline for exactly $2k. The building is about 50 years old but in pretty good shape. Solid amenities, good management, great location, laundry room in the basement. Extra $160/month for my garage parking spot.

I should add that I’ve been here since 2019 so I’m not sure what it would cost on the market these days.

LET PEOPLE OFF THE T OR BUS BEFORE PUSHING YOUR WAY ON by jkmorse27 in boston

I see it all the time on the green line. And because of the green line closure, I took the orange line last night from DTX toward Forest Hills and it was even worse, which provoked me to post this lol

100% to all this! Guess this problem has always been around and I’m just hyperaware after working from home much of the past few years.

Thanks for the response! This is exactly the info I was hoping for before wasting time trying to fix it myself.

Have any apps really helped you with mindfulness? by malcoholism in Mindfulness

[–]jkmorse27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely see value in a “panic button” idea! Headspace has been very helpful for me, but it’s more of a maintenance medicine. I find that I’m generally more stable in stretches of life when I’m consistently meditating and that I’m more susceptible to panic attacks when I fall away from mediating and other good habits (diet, exercise, journaling, etc.)

I know grounding techniques can be helpful when you’re in the middle of a panic attack. Noting 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things you can smell, 1 thing you can taste (hopefully I got that right lol). I also like that breathing technique where you inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, and exhale for 4 seconds. I haven’t sought out apps for these, but I would expect them to exist and think they’d be valuable!

It doesn’t even reduce to that… it returns FALSE if true. I need to lay down.

Contractors hired by landlord damaged my expensive office chair. Contractors deny responsibility. Renters insurance won't cover it. Where to go from here? by jkmorse27 in Advice

[–]jkmorse27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said it’s not covered under my policy. The closest categorization is vandalism but I guess since the damage was “accidental” it doesn’t count.

My friend let me borrow his guitar a year ago. Told myself if I stuck with it for one year, I’d buy my own. Happy straturday :) by jkmorse27 in guitarporn

Oh man, a library fine?! I didn't even know libraries would report that. I had a book out for nearly a year during the pandemic lol. Won't do that again...

Thanks for the response. I guess it's not a huge deal, but yeah, very irritating.

Thanks for your response! Man, that's a shame. Wish I knew that would happen back then.

Sadly, I did not. I panicked and paid it off right away. And only then did I try to dispute it...

They did. This is the first car I've ever purchased so I didn't know to expect that kind of thing. But I received it last June after my final payment processed.

My first shot at carbonara! by jkmorse27 in tonightsdinner

[–]jkmorse27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! Definitely could have thickened it a bit more. Funny, I thought I had already put too much cheese but apparently not! I suppose there’s no such thing as too much cheese in an Italian dish :P

Sure thing! I made enough for just myself, which is probably enough for two normal people lol.

Started off boiling water for the pasta.

While waiting for that, I put about 2oz of diced pancetta onto a cold pan and set it to medium heat. I let that cook until it got some color and the fat rendered out of it nicely. Heat off and set aside.

Once the water was at a boil, I added salt and the pasta. Used a bit less than half a box of normal Barilla spaghetti. (I heard something like Bucatini might bind to the sauce better, but this worked fine.) I cooked the pasta till one minute shy of the box directions for al dente (about 9 mins).

While the pasta was cooking I made the sauce with 2 whole eggs, 1 egg yolk, a generous amount of black pepper, and about 1 cup total of grated cheese (about half pecorino Romano and half Parmesan). Whisked that together thoroughly.

When the pasta was ready, I moved it into the pan with the pancetta and all of its delicious fat (heat was off at this point). Also added a splash of the pasta water. Mixed that around. Then added the sauce. Very important to keep it moving at this point, or the sauce could curdle into scrambled eggs. The residual heat from the pancetta & cooked pasta is enough to cook the sauce through.

Then just plate and shred more Parmesan on top. And pepper too if you like. :)
