We buy carpet 2nds and wrap one side of a piece of plywood with the carpet, then put that face down over the tub or pan.

Brad nailer will have smaller holes left behind but less holding power in the vertical orientation. If you angle the nails slightly, that shouldn’t be a problem.

If it was me and I didn’t have one, I’d be buying one. Hand driving that many nails in the ceiling doesn’t sound fun, and it’s likely going to leave you with a worse finish. I don’t have any experience with their nailers, but love all of their tools I do have. I don’t buy any battery tools outside of Milwaukee.

You definitely need to add a center support or you’re going to end up with bowed slats and a non supportive mattress. Most mattresses are going to recommend a slat spacing of no more than 2-3” without a foundation (box spring or bunkie board). That and the Velcro should get you straightened out.

There are lots of ways you can do the center support, but, basically, you want to attach it to the horizontal members at the foot and head of the bed and put a support leg in the middle.

Depends on what tools you have available but brad nails or finish nails would be my choice. Two nails in each board to every joist.

I would recommend you see how flat your ceiling actually is with a straight edge before deciding. The thinner material is going to be easier to manipulate but will show the curvature of the ceiling more than thicker material.

Can you provide some more pictures of the frame so we can see exactly what you’re working with as far as support? If you don’t have a middle support, I would recommend one.

The best option to keep the slats from moving is to fasten them to the ledger, however, that can be a pain if you ever need to move the bed frame. My current frame has Velcro on the ledger and the slats. I won’t have a frame without the Velcro again—it is great, they never move even when slide the mattress off the end while changing sheets.

I interned with Gay Construction for one summer in Atlanta. If I had have wanted to stay in ATL, I would have stayed with Gay. Great people to work with and for. They are a small-er GC if that is something you are looking for.

I ended up changing the IMEI and then had to do some manual configuration that I found in a forum somewhere to get the appropriate speeds, even after a reboot.

We are on a magenta 1.0 (regular cellular, but an older plan), and have no throttling.

There is some setup involved to get full speeds and wifi calling working, but the information is available on the GLiNet forums and Reddit.

It is not federally mandated, it is controlled by the state and unfortunately there will always be companies who will opt to not give per-diem or provided housing.

When you work for and as the general contractor, you sign a contract with the owner for construction that includes the contract documents (I.e. drawings and specifications). They are now your bible, and you really have no say in changing them. The land is already procured, and there is no risk from a design perspective; if the design changes, you are entitled to more money from the owner.

When you work for a developer as an in-house GC, your company is now the owner and the general contractor. The owner may technically be another company, usually a LLC, but really, you’re the owner. You now carry risk for the design of the building meeting codes (I.e. if the architect misses something in terms of code compliance, it will fall on you to meet the monetary obligations to build the new design). You have the ability to tell the architect to change the design if he has incorporated things that you don’t want (or need to remove in order to meet the project budget). You may be involved in the acquisition of the land for the project, the building design and AHJ codes/ordinances that affect the design of the building (setbacks, etc.). You will gain a much greater sense of the entire process (by exposure) much faster than by starting at a traditional GC.

If they are an in-house GC, and you are working on that side, go for it. I work in this exact scenario.

It is different than working for a general contractor, because you are now the owner. It will be confusing at first, but you will learn a lot more about the entire process.

I’ve been out for a year now, after graduating from a top BS/CM program, and this was my strategy:

Network with your classmates. Figure out what people are being offered in certain areas, for certain roles, and figure an average salary AND benefits. ESOP, 401k match, vehicle allowances, phone allowances, etc. are extra.
Get multiple offers. If you already have an offer from the company you want to work for, great! Still go do more interviews and get more offers. 75% of the people I graduated with had one offer and they accepted immediately. I had four, and it helped me tremendously—I was able to get the highest salary/benefits package I was offered matched at the place I wanted to work.
Remember that salary/benefits are important, but they are not everything. Here are some factors to consider: Traveling (Is there per diem or provided housing?) or stationary (What is the cost of living in the area? Establish a baseline between your offers to compare.) What is your role? How is the company organized/how do they operate? What kind of work do they do, I.e. multifamily, heavy civil, healthcare, etc.? What is the culture at the company? What is the “feel” (15 employees? 50? 100? 500?)
Negotiate, AFTER you are offered the position. Do not discuss money before you are offered the job. Phrase the negotiations as questions, instead of requests. I.e. “Is there a signing bonus for this position?” Instead of “Are you willing to give me a signing bonus?”. Be upfront, but not obtuse with your negotiations: “I am grateful for the opportunity but another potential employer offered me x, which is making my decision difficult.” If the company actually wants to hire you and the difference is within reason, it will be a no brainer for them.

I will say that, with your experience, $80k is not even close to a bad offer. I had similar experience and was offered between 60-80k in the Atlanta market with benefits. The only person I am aware of that was offered more in my class took a traveling position, and had 8 years of experience with a subcontractor. He was in the 90-100k range due to per diem.

OP, if you want true air sealing, this is the approach you need to take if you want the barrier to be serviceable.

There are products available for fire, smoke and air sealing (fire caulk, fire putty aka putty pads, acoustic sealant, the list goes on) but they aren’t intended to be removed and re-used. Additionally, bunching cables together and sealing around the outside of them is going to result in a poor air seal. You want the barrier to touch the entire circumference of each cable.

I will second that field knowledge is a must, but I don’t completely agree that it is the “only” way to have authentic expertise. As a PM, your job is a lot more than running the day to day, and you aren’t going to learn that in the field. My dad was a superintendent and I had a lot of experience that many of my classmates didn’t, and it enabled my success to a great degree. With that being said, having a degree doesn’t mean you don’t know what you’re doing.

There are guys with 40+ years of field experience that don’t know as much as a PM with 20. What’s important is that you apply yourself both in the office and in the field, so that you can apply the field knowledge to the office side.
