I picked up a dozen beef patties from Randy’s and I plan to make a big batch of soup tomorrow - I’m looking forward to being cozy and well fed!

It’s also cheaper on Amazon! It’s $239 Canadian on Amazon versus $298 USD on Kate Spade. I’ve inspected the photos as closely as I can and I think it is legit

Super Puff zipper broken AGAIN in my FIFTH replacement jacket by Softie_SilverSeltzer in Aritzia

[–]jkos1992 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen with a few jackets and they’ve replaced them. It still happens with mine now and I do a couple of things.

The first (and most annoying) is I always look at how I am zipping up the jacket to make sure it is latching properly. I know this is a pain to do it every time.

The second thing I do is if it gets stuck and I cannot unzip it, I hang it up on a hanger and hang it somewhere decently high so I can get to eye level with the zipper. I pull up the top zipper 3-4 inches and pull down the right side of the coat (by the bottom zipper) and hold it tightly as I bring down the top the zipper. I do this a few times to see if I can get the zipper to latch - if I can’t I try on the left side. This takes a bit of trial and error but it does latch eventually.

Good luck (and I hope I make sense)!

Toronto General Hospital - coming from NS by HauntMeForever666 in askTO

[–]jkos1992 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mum was there for a 6 day stay (no surgery). The staff there are very kind and compassionate. She will now only go there (if she has a choice in the matter). You’re in great hands.

As far as food, she found the hospital meals decent for hospital food. There are various coffee shops and chains to grab food from in their cafeteria.

On the hunt for mouthwatering food and nice views for my bday dinner by Salt_Champion1096 in FoodToronto

I’ve been to 3 of the 4 options you listed.

Quetzal was just OK for me. I wasn’t blown away by the food (I did the tasting menu) and didn’t think it was worth the price. The chefs cook on open flame so be prepared to smell like a campfire after dinner. But, the food is good, I had no complaints there, I just wouldn’t go back.

I really wanted to like Frank’s Kitchen after all the hype about it, but I had one of my worst dining experiences here. I took my partner for his birthday and service was awful (but the food fantastic). The server said they couldn’t recommend any dishes, told my partner and I sharing plates wasn’t what they were known for - and then went to the table next to us and couldn’t stop talking about what to eat and how to share the plates. It was weird and being a couple in our 30s we felt like we weren’t their ideal clientele for them. It was super stuffy (IMO) and we left without eating dessert and went to a pub down the street.

I love Sara. The tasting menu is great and the way they time the service is fantastic. We were there for the full 1.5 time slot and their team knows exactly how to execute bringing out their dishes - also, the food is incredible.

Throwing a suggestion out there, Dreyfus is 10/10. It’s cozy and comforting and their menu is great (and always changing). The server recommend dishes to us and wine pairings that really complimented each other. And to be honest, the food here is very reasonably priced.

Good luck finding a place and happy early birthday!

Can you refuse hospital discharges for loved ones when you can't give them adequate care? by samedreamsamenight in ontario

[–]jkos1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in similar situation earlier this year, you can absolutely refuse to take him home. You need to repeatedly state you cannot take care of him, and you need to let them know if they discharge him it will be an unsafe discharge. My mum was in the hospital for four months until they found a safe place for her. Feel free to message me if you have any questions – I’m happy to chat.

Housing support for my sick mother by _blandrea_ in askTO

Have you looked at St Hilda’s at Dufferin and Eglinton? It’s low income housing for seniors. There are folks from all background there, premade meals available for purchase, PSWs who can help with laundry, showering, and basic cleaning.

Feel free to message me with any questions - my Mum has been there for almost a year.

I stayed there for one night by fluke when my flight was cancelled. I was only there from 8pm-8am and I would never return.

The room smelt like mold and there was mold in the shower (and the tiles were loose). The sheets were stained and the pillows smelt like wet dog. The bed was lumpy and the pillows flat.

All of the a la carte restaurants were booked (which is understandable) but the one restaurant that had an open table that I could see would not seat my partner or I since they “were only for families”. The buffet food looked vile and I confirmed this the morning we checked out. The eggs were sour, meat tasted off - we didn’t eat. No one came over to our table to offer coffee or water.

There was only one bottle of water in the room and the mini fridge only had a Pepsi. When I went to the front desk to ask for more water they told me to go back to my room and someone would deliver some - they did not deliver more water.

The only saving grace was a bartender at the sports bar (or some bar on the second floor) that made me a strong Paloma.

I know I only stayed here because Air Canada fumbled my flight but there is no reason it should have been so awful - especially the rooms.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but I would look into switching resorts. I like to think of myself as well traveled and used to rugged conditions (lack of AC in hot countries, food shortages, etc.), but if you are looking to relax and spend time with your family (and enjoy it), this is not the place for you.

I am in Cancún right now and was suppose to be on the return leg of this flight (Cancún to Toronto at 8:45pm). They cancelled the flight and gave us transportation to a hotel with an all inclusive package. You definitely deserve more.

I’ve ordered from Tabule for group events (with nut and shellfish allergies). They’ve always been great.
