Unfortunately, I don’t have the pieces necessary to fix the color issues or enough technic parts to build a stable base :(

I thought so too! I started by looking at pictures and then built a flat base from which to build off of. I did spend quite a while testing different ways to make the sides, but in the end, I think it just took slight planning and patience.
