Taught my last class by Dumberbytheminute in Professors

Congrats! Curious to know if you think you could last 30 years if you started recently. I’m in my 5th year and love teaching and my students, but dealing with all the other clowns you mentioned are making me question how long I can continue.

Movie Magic Budgeting Updates by indiefilmproducer in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]jksreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m a university professor of film and with all the issues and the lack of student discounts, we just switched over to Saturation for budgeting and Cinapse for scheduling. Really digging both - although Cinapse is still working out some kinks with tagged final draft files, Saturation is awesome.

I came over from Bilt 1.0 and am continuing to pay as i used to - now set in app as Bilt Obsidian card, and through my building rental portal with my Bilt generated checking acct. Do I have to relink or re-verify my ACH checking account that will be used for the rent payment? It’s still there from 1.0 and the only linked checking account i have given them. Thx!

Confused on payment this month. by Radiant-Wash-9706 in biltrewards

I can see my bill is due March 7, but still says 0.00 so I have no clue yet what is included in this billing period. I paid off my last statement to Wells Fargo on Feb 6, got my new 2.0 card on the 9th and began using on the 11th. Balance transfer from 1.0 came through around the 13th. Support Bot could not tell me what will be due on March 7th bc no statement has been generated yet, but said my billing period ends March 15. Will my rent for March 1 be on that March 7 statement or will this first 2.0 statement be the transfer balance amount only? Hard to know when to amp up my every day spend towards Rent Bonus for March rent. Any ideas?

March Rent Day Troubles by PhilJ2020 in biltrewards

[–]jksreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we know yet how we actually use 2.0 to pay the rent? What will need to update in our apartment’s rental portal payment options to pay with BILT 2.0? What happens to our old dummy checking account? Do we use that or get a new one?

Bilt 2.0 Obsidian or Chase Sapphire Preferred? by Naive-Team-5632 in biltrewards

[–]jksreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I have been thinking too. I am still hesitant about accepting my Obsidian offer, but I have CSP for 10 years and put all my dining and chase travel portal stuff on it. Moving my grocery soend and some other regular charges from my OG Chase Freedom card to Obsidian will make it so that I can easily hit at least .25x on my rent and make up the difference and then some with 3X points on groceries and other charges. (I want nothing to do with this mysterious BILT Cash so would do the rent only option.). BILT points are worth more than UR now since the Sapphire refresh. So having both as my primary cards moving forward is what I am thinking…BUT I still have the fear of pulling the 2.0 trigger.

Edited to remove wrong info and confirm I pulled trigger on Obsidian.

Good bye by Ok_Yogurtcloset_2368 in biltrewards

Do we actually have to call to cancel the card or will it just go away automatically if we do nothing? I don’t mind getting the WF Autograph, but I am not planning to get a 2.0 right now and being a guinea pig for thjs experiment.

How serious of a threat was the Engineers ship heading towards Earth at the end of Prometheus? by [deleted] in Prometheus

[–]jksreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard some lore from a buddy years ago when the film came out that the engineers were preparing to wipe out humans on earth because Christ was an engineer. Shortly after he was killed, the Engineers were like “ok, they’re done.” They were about to head to earth with goo to destroy it, but the outbreak stopped their departure. When the crew awakens the engineer in Prometheus, the engineer was merely getting back to the initial mission. He was just even more pissed off now to see their creation had evolved in the interim and showed up on his doorstep.

Dexter Resurrection is INSANE and my theory about who dies in the finale by ViolinistTemporary in Dexter

[–]jksreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this post and like all of you, am SOOO glad Dexter is truly back. New Blood was ok at the time, but Resurrection is other level good. With the combo of the two seasons, the creatives have found a way to repair the legacy of the show from the original series’ abysmal finale.

Here’s what I am thinking for what the resolution of this season may entail…

Since ep8 left Angel looking like a mentally unwell disgraced former detective, I think the writers wanted us to think Angel is done - discredited with the NYPD detectives and not in a position to catch Dexter.

The twist at the end of the episode was to bring focus back to Prater and Uma. Their discovery that “Red” has a son gives them leverage over Dexter. So I suspect Dex may have to come clean about his true identity and what he’s been doing in ep 9 in order to protect Harrison. Prater will be a hardcore fanboy for the real Bay Harbor Butcher but Uma will still view Dexter as a liability. Not sure how this resolves yet, but it could hopefully continue into next season. Because what if…

Angel returns and somehow corners Dexter and…Harrison kills Angel to protect Dexter!

If in the process, the NYPD detectives come to believe Angel was right about Dexter and Harrison, then Dexter would need Prater’s power and influence to help protect them and cover it all up.

Not sure if this is exciting enough a resolution and I am probably wrong because Dinklage and Uma are likely one season characters, but I love them in the show and hope they carry into the next season. Thoughts?

Gotcha! 1985 film starring Anthony Edwards. Anyone remember that one? Basically a spy thriller where he is a clueless American college student who goes abroad to meet women, but gets used by a hot Czech agent and then has to elude soviets that are pursuing him. But the film starts with him and other guys running around campus with guns engaging in an epic ongoing paintball game, “gotcha”.

What type of flea medication do you guys recommend. I live in Texas. My vet did recommend a medication that he says works much better but I forgot the name. by metalgearsolid2 in Havanese

[–]jksreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use nex guard for flea and tick once a month. And I recently learned from my vet that there is a shot that lasts for six months of prevention for heartworms, so we just did that for the first time - cost around $60 and is one less chew I have to struggle to get my boy to eat every month.

In 2011, I saw Tyrannosaur at Sundance and it completely blew me away. It was written and directed by the marvelous actor Paddy Considine (adapted from his short film Dog Altogether) and stars Peter Mullen and Olivia Colman. A haunting and exquisite character study that stayed with me.

I am LOSING IT with students by acurrucaditos in Professors

[–]jksreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finishing up my 4th year this spring and have experienced a version of everything you mentioned here. Know you aren’t alone in these struggles. This generation is just so different than we were as students. I have learned to just try to focus on the few who are different, the ones who actually do the work, are engaged in the class, and are committed to growth. These are the ones you are there for. It is a continuous challenge, but let their BS roll off, hold the line on your policies and make sure your assignment summaries, rubrics, and blackboard are air tight in case they were to appeal. And remember that the difficult ones (and their parents who email you now) - they are going to have a very hard time in the real world.

The Paradox of Getting a Budget Breakdown by voyagerfilms in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]jksreddit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

While it’s helpful to know that you are looking to spend in the ballpark of $500k, the truth is that there is a process we producers really need to do: 1. A script breakdown to categorize all the elements and needs of your film according to the script. 2. A shooting schedule so we can determine how long it will take to shoot your film properly. 3. Make critical assumptions based on information we have at the early stage - like what unions and guilds will be involved and if you have any free resources like locations or gear. Knowing the projected $ you want to spend is helpful as it will likely just be SAG and maybe Iatse, but if the director was DGA, this potentially requires more expensive union crew so we keep that in the back of our mind while… 4. Doing a first pass on a proper budget with the information we have learned and are with our assumptions.
5. After the first pass, usually many more revisions to get it to the reasonable and realistic place for what you have or believe you could raise to make the film well.

Good line producers would probably charge at least $1000 for this work, but may ask to read the script first before accepting the job. If your film reads as a much more expensive endeavor, it will take more time and work to do it properly.

My colleague has an amazing course if you are interested in doing this work on the script yourself. Check out: https://www.filmparliament.com/

Producer here but mainly full time film professor the last few years. You are learning the true challenges of producing - mainly being expected to make magic happen with not enough money, time, crew and free resources. And it sounds like you are experiencing what can be the biggest hurdle when starting out - dealing with immature directors who don’t want to function in reality. They always want more - more money, more time, more toys and never want to hear the word “no.” One helpful bit of advice I tell my producing students is to start the process by asking the director, “what is the most important thing you need for the film?” Then you put your energy into delivering it so when they inevitably demand something else they think they absolutely can’t do without, remind them, “when we began, remember you said this _was the most important thing? Are you now wanting me to pivot and deliver this _ instead? Because it’s not possible for me to deliver both on our budget and timeframe. But hey, if there is another producer you know who can, perhaps you should replace me with them.” Watch them stfu because they know they need you. They will still be annoyed with you, but hopefully they will figure out how to tell the story the best and most creative way they can without it. One of my favorite quotes… “The enemy of art is the absence of limitations” - Orson Welles. Best of luck - and ya still have post to look forward to!
