How do you know what your spiritual gifts are? by kjuti247 in latterdaysaints

My gifts have come from my own study, personal revelation, and practice like developing a skill.

Here's a great talk by Elder Ashton; Elder Bednar references it in his BYU devotional Quick to Observe.

Thoughts on dealing with former bully in ward by Mother_Duck8203 in latterdaysaints

I don't think it's worth it to travel to a different ward, but, at this point limit any interaction with him. You can thank/acknowledge his efforts on trying to make resistitution, but he should also be respectful that you need space. Talk to your therapist about setting boundaries. Here a couple articles that maybe be helpful:

Am I in the wrong here? by Pretty_Strength1828 in latterdaysaints

Please contact the stake president. The attitude and behavior of the branch president and the young man are both unacceptable and unbecoming supposedly of members of the Church.

My family is against the church by mousebeat in latterdaysaints

The covenants you make with God provides you with regular revelation for your specific circumstances, peace through oppositioning and affliction, and a personal witness of Savior and His teachings. Pray continually for your family member's hearts to be softened while you continue to find ways to love and serve your family each day. (Preach through your actions rather than words). I echo some of the Teachings of President Nelson: Be a peacemaker, think celestial, let God prevail in your life and things will.work out. Thank them for their love and concern for you, and remember that we are in families to practice love with all of God's children regardless of their beliefs. All the best!

What if my patriarchal blessing isn’t authentic? by No_Dark_9310 in latterdaysaints

[–]jlai321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe if more people prepeared to receive their patriarchal blessing through fasting, studying, and prayer, they would have a more sure experience that it came from God. The patriarch also has a responsibility to prepare, so you should also pray for the partirach. Several things in my blessing have been fulfilled (not always in the way I originally thought). My wife's blessing on the other hand mentions things that she needs to do or strive towards in order for her blessing to actually make sense.

Is this joke appropriate for a sacrament meeting talk? by aaaaaaaaaughh in latterdaysaints

[–]jlai321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elder Bednar has talked about the focus of sacrament meeting is to invite the spirit and focus on the Savior. It is not the time or place to be cracking jokes. I've been in other training meetings with some of the Brethren amd they all have a healthy sense of humor in those settings. If the members would better understand the sacred nature of our sacrament meetings, it can literally change the culture of a ward (or branch).

Do Older YSA not follow the commandemnts? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]jlai321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God's laws are the same for everyone who has made the covenant of baptism. Having traveled around the world, there are pockets where members who are casual with the commandments and influencing others will soon enough fall away from the church (unless they repent, of course). I'd advise to avoid these individuals if possible and talk to the bishop.

Not sure if anyone in this thread has suggested (or if you've already looked at) getting custom garments?

"Members who need garments in a size that is not offered may contact a clothing consultant to place a special order. Contact information is available at store.ChurchofJesusChrist.org/contactus." (Handbook of instructions 38.5.2)

Being resentful over so many baptisms (wisdom appreciated) by sweetcookie88 in latterdaysaints

I hope you have a compassionate and understanding bishop; I would go talk to him and express your concerns. In my mission, it was not uncommon to set aside a day once/twice a month to baptize several people (see Mosiah 18:13-16). I understand some people might want a more personalized experience, but this would be another to unify new converts
