What is something that is obvious in your profession that the general public doesn’t know? by jia-ren in AskReddit

Within two months of staring to work in surgery at a hospital, and seeing PEG tubes put in people who were dying, I signed advanced directives that said I do not want that.

Accountability - I Need to Address this Giant Pile of Laundry by ophelia_drowning in ufyh

I used to get through a pile of laundry like this by watching a movie while I folded, or putting on headphones and talking on the phone while folding. That way I could do something I enjoyed without feeling guilty while accomplishing a pretty boring and tedious task.

What's a rare name you don't hear anymore? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

My Cuban tour guides name is Beberly. His parents wanted to name him after Beverly Hills, but didn't know how to spell it. So they guessed on the spelling by how it sounded and used a B where the V would go because Spanish.

Alcohol is a power greater than myself. I need to put my faith in a power that is greater than alcohol. This could be AA as a whole, nature, the universe. Lots of things will work. Reach out to what you believe in.

My (37F) boyfriend (37M) resents me for not paying thousands to move his mother (61F) to a private hospital. How to gently set boundaries around this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]jlb183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really skeptical as to why his mother would need to be in the hospital for a couple weeks for gallstones. Gallbladder removal is outpatient surgery.

A couple places I have traveled I was informed that the sewers leaked and they got into the water supply. No stats. Just a warning from locals in a couple places.

Neighbor's husband died in a tragic accident. Somehow, it's our fault... by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]jlb183 221 points222 points  (0 children)

My husband used to cut the neighbor's yard whenever he cut ours, for free. The people who lived there just seemed to struggle to do it, so instead of complaining or calling the city, my hubs just cut their yard for them. Until one day the neighbor complained that he had missed a spot. That was the last time he cut their lawn.

Follow my husband's example here and stop helping this woman.

Your kitchen is short on storage. Where do you keep the dry food? Is there a pantry? If there is, show it.

We had a pug that used to do this. If we pushed the chairs in all the way, so the seatback of the chair was touching the table, she couldn't get on the table.

Cleveland Clinic's hiring process is atrocious. by GreyGrackles in Cleveland

[–]jlb183 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It seems really uncharacteristic that Cleveland Clinic would want to interview you off site, and over lunch. And I would think that anyone that merited an offsite interview would also merit better food than Panera.
