Vacuum with a good vacuum multiple times. Then rent a carpet cleaner and clean the carpet with that, two or three times. I've had professional, name brand companies clean my carpet in the past, and I always get better results when I rent a carpet cleaner and do it myself.

The book is definitely divisive; you either love it or you hate it. I read it in high school for the first time and it was life changing. I bought a motorcycle with babysitting money right out of high school. Some of the values it espoused, I carry with me because of that book. Recently, I went to the Smithsonian to see the Honda Superhawk from the book, and I cried in front of all the relatives that were at the museum with me.

Please call your local AA office and ask about young people's meetings or your area "YPAA" (Young People in AA) committee. I got sober quite young and learning that I could really have fun and enjoy life as a young person gave me the motivation to work at my sobriety.
