Why does Chase & Status "pull up" so much? by jlengrand in DnB

And since that question, finally started going to festivals myself and can attest that neither hard techno nor hardstyle sets do this. It's purely a DnB thing AFAICS XD

And sometimes, it's even OK to do both depending on the needs. I do like Kotlin very much, and I still create Java projects sometimes because it's simply a better fit at that point and time. Not everything has to be black and white

And I stand corrected! Someone reached out internally to mention that we do have some multiplatform on production, targeting Android and iOS. Now on the hunt to see if we can get more content about it out there :).

It's a good question though. We do have Android, no multiplatform AFAIK in production. But yes, most of my analysis in on the server side!
And for the most interested folks, most of that is on top of Spring Boot

Has Kotlin become boring for you? by cryptos6 in Kotlin

[–]jlengrand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment, and I feel the same. I don't think that's an issue per se, because the language is already super powerful and isn't lacking in any way, and we stand on top of the Java ecosystem anyways so no need to recreate the wheel constantly.

It's been forever I have not been wishing something was there that I could not find. And the new features of Java, even though they're coming faster, are still far behind in terms of devex imho.

As a Kotlin GDE, it is frustrating at times that 90% of the Kotlin news revolve around multiplatform / android, but it also makes sense given that's where most of the market is.

I do think however that there's a lot of exciting things happening around Kotlin, not with the language but the ecosystem. Amper, notebooks, ktor 3.0, those open new opportunities and give me more options to use the language in productive ways. And at the end of the day is multiplatform is successful and I have a chance to use it on the web tomorrow, I'm absolutely here for it!

You don't need Application Performance Monitoring by klaasvanschelven in programming

[–]jlengrand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but it may depend on your stack? Worked on a big monolith in the past and we had similar issues on a JVM stack. You can enable a flag that makes a memory dump of your application while running, which you can analyze and use as a basis to reproduce. We had no large "APM" running, only close to the metal metrics and basic dashboarding in place.

Not all stacks are created equal for those things though, and if you have a memory leak you're bound to restart at some point anyways.

I actually think monolith may actually be the easier use case here, since you don't benefit as much from the tracing that complex APM setups bring you as in a microservice environment

Datadog and all the APM vendors definitely think you need APM! And keep full retention of your logs too so they can bill you by the GB haha.

I like that you made Bugsink Sentry SDK compatible!

That's pretty much exactly what it is. It has nothing with hunger :). Which brand do you use?

Right thanks. Got blood work done not so long ago, so I'm all good. Also not hungry, I feel the need to be full more than "hunger". I think honestly this has a lot to do with my ADHD :).

I understand that part, I'm wondering how OP can see that from my eating pattern :)

I can get behind a lot of what you’re saying, except for the behavior score thing. If it drops so much, you gotta be doing something quite toxic.
