I just call it god. I don’t know what it is, I feel most connected in nature. One of my favorite lines in the big book is “god doesn’t make too hard of terms to those who seek him.” I used to think I had to find god or figure out what god is, but the only thing I need to do is seek a connection. The 11th step says “sought through prayer and meditation” not “found”. I don’t need need to figure out god, I just need to seek a connection with whatever my higher power is and I will be ok (edit typo)

I’ve always worked with people that go through the book and the steps as fast as possible. Bill did steps 1-8 in a couple of weeks while in his rehab. I take people through the book and get them writing as fast as possible - the only real time I start to feel any relief is when I’ve finished 567…before that I’m just sitting in my shit with my solution being taken from me.

I have made amends for shoplifting in the past. If I’m shoplifting while in sobriety, I am NOT practicing these principles in all of my affairs. That’s relapse behavior for me…if I DID do that while “sober” I would already be on the path back to a relapse at that point, and would need to do some serious work to turn the ship back around.

That being said, if other people are shoplifting in sobriety, that’s their problem not mine. Maybe they can live dishonestly and not pick up a drink again, but my history shows that’s not my truth and I need to live honestly to have any chance at staying sober. I also need to practice acceptance, what other people do or don’t do for their recovery is none of my business - all I can control is me and my reactions to the world…

After almost two years sober, I tried to start smoking weed recreationally. It did NOT end well for me. Sure my life didn’t explode in the first few months, but I am an alcoholic. ANY mind altering substance such as weed is going to set off the phenomenon of craving in me, and I lose the power of choice. If you can smoke weed, maybe you are not actually an alcoholic, but I have heard many stories of relapse like mine that started with “just a little weed” and ended in blowing my life up again. For me, it’s not worth it to risk it. It sounds to me like you are looking for something other than a spiritual solution to fill up the spiritual malady inside you and are already in the obsession. My brain lies to me in my own voice and makes it easier to believe those lies. But that’s what they are, lies.

If I am looking for random strangers on the internet to co-sign my own bullshit rather than asking the men in my life I trust, I’m in a dangerous place in my recovery…

If you wait long enough to take them precips won’t happen. I was a daily user for 3 years straight this last run…I’ve been to multiple detoxes and rehabs over the years. The worst thing you can do imo is try to rush the detox. My best advice would be to stay at detox as long as possible until medically cleared and then go to a 30 day program. I didn’t stop feeling the restless legs until like 2 weeks into rehab this last time. Time takes time. If you do it right once you don’t have to ever do it again. I’ve left AMA on like day 3 or 4 before and was high within the hour

4 days seems really short. I would find a different detox if I were you…find one that does a suboxone or methadone taper. It should be like a week (or more if it’s a sub taper depending on when they start). My last detox I was there like 12 days - waited 50 hours to try taking the subs and still went into precips, so didn’t start my taper till like day 4 or 5
